    This has really opened up my eyes to the Victorian building style. It looks so much better than Medieval housing, mostly because of these buildings being able to pack next to one another and the spectrum of details is just inspiring. But I do think that the Medieval housing we do in Minecraft has more of a fantasy base. Real Medieval houses don't often look that great, unless you were living in the best of the best

    • @WBCBuilds
      @WBCBuilds  Před 3 lety +3

      I believe you are correct, so that is why I’ve embarked on this mission to help spread the word about Victorian buildings and how they can still look equally as good in the game. Real life medieval buildings come in all different shapes and sizes, just think about churches and cathedrals. But yes the fantastical nature of the Minecraft medieval builds leaves a lot to be desired

    This is amazing, exactly the sort of thing I subscribed for. Nice touch with the timeline in the background, very effective. I will be sharing this with several friends, and we'll be taking a lot of inspiration from this. My wife and her friends do Regency costuming as a hobby, and we recently (before everything got shut down...) took a trip to Williamsburg, Virginia, and saw lots of architecture like this. One of my favorite things about visiting the east coast of the US (though I much prefer to live in the western Rocky Mountains, haha). Very fun to go in era-appropriate costume to see historic builds like this, and thanks as always for the excellent and concise history lesson and art showcase! It might be cool to have multiple videos of this style with links to in-depth history lessons and build tutorials for each step along the way.

    • @WBCBuilds

    I actually live in a house not too dissimilar to the one at 10:18, it just doesn’t have the bay windows and is semi-detached with the “sister house” next door; also my cousin/best friend lives in a large Victorian house too, they still have the buttons to call the servants and the notification box thing in the dining room. Thank you for this review of architectural styles over a 200 year period. I learned a lot. I was drawn to your channel by your Victorian builds. I'm originally from a small mill town in New England (Rockville, Connecticut), where textile mill owners - the monied class - built beautiful Victorian houses with grand porches and towers, along with rambling Georgian mansions that later became Rockville's hospital and library. This is amazing! First (and nearly only)result when I looked for Victorian house. I want to try and tackle a new style for me and your tutorials are very well done. Would you ever go across the "pond" again and tackle the painted ladies in San Francisco? That is what I am going to do next, with a clock tower/rail station to greet you to my town. Again great job!

      Wow that’s amazing to hear that it’s popping up in the search results. As much as I love second empire houses my passion lies with British architecture and I’m trying my hardest to give people a bit more of an insight into that era of buildings. I will do some American towns in the future but don’t have anything planned just yet! I wish you luck with your town and welcome you to join our discord (link in description)

    Honestly I'd love to see you try on Toronto's Annex style buildings. Which is a combo of Queen Anne and Romanesque architecture.

  • @uniquely.mediocre1865

    Idk if you ever made another episode but it'd be cool to see you cover the 200 years prior to this, although it'd end up being more than 200 if you want to cover the Renaissance building styles and the baroque styles

    I appreciate this a lot, a lot of buildings in Minecraft, especially ones trying to look historical, are pretty cartoonish looking and don't even try to look like the real deal, which I'm not really a fan of. It's definitely worst with medieval buildings but it's also pretty bad with anything from the Industrial Revolution, especially factories. I think people think that they have to make those cartoonish in order to make them look good because we don't tend to think that factories are pretty but that doesn't mean that they can't still look interesting. Sometimes trying to make something that just looks realistic can be it's own reward.

      Indeed, while there will always be that “Minecraft” look to anything you build in game it really doesn’t have to be the defining feature of the buildings. I strive to build stuff that have enough notes from the real world as to make it feel “real” from a first glance

    I recently stumbled apon your channel, and I am as glad as I could possibly be. Your production quality is flawless, sound is amazing, cuts are professional (not like most of the minecraft youtubers' screaming just to get little kids' attention). Very informational, it seems like You are experienced in historical building styles. Lots of interesting facts and tips, keep the great work up! I will definietly share your channel. Gained several subs!
