Love Chuck's mischievous sparkling eyes and laughter.
October 14th 1997, the 50th anniversary of breaking the sound barrier, my kids and I were at the Airshow at Edwards AFB to hear Brigadier General Chuck Yeager do it again. I can't remember at what altitude he was flying, but when the PA announcer said that "Brig. Gen. Chuck Yeager is over head and making Mach 2," the place went dead quiet. Then maybe 30 seconds later...a muffled boom, The place went crazy. Years later I found out that the F-15 he was flying that day was HIS...it was a retirement gift from the Air force.
Dude is one of a kind ❤
Brilliant interview. A true American hero. 🇺🇸
He's a legend is Chuck Yeager. All the X-plane test pilots were absolutely fearless, putting their lives at risk flying these experimental aircrafts to the limits, just so US military/agencies could pursue research into high-speed aircraft.
Chuck Yeager was the first pilot to break the sound barrier at Mach 1 (660 mph) in 1947 with the X-1.
And the X-15 aircraft flown by test pilot William Knight in 1967, reached a top speed of Mach 6.72 (4,520 mph). The X-15 aircraft holds the official world record for the fastest manned aircraft in history.
The fact that the record hasn't been beaten in over 50 years, shows how incredible the test pilots and X-planes were.
... $245/month is an amazing pay rate for that work 🤔
Define maned aircraft.
@@brittcrowell - A machine that has a head of distinctively long and thick hair, that is able to fly by gaining support from the air?.
..He had the RIGHT stuff!!
You can tell that this guy had endless courage and a brilliant mind.
“Who’s the greatest pilot I ever saw? Well, there’s a lot of them. But there was one…who’s the best pilot I ever saw? Well, you’re looking at him!” Chuck Yeager 👈
Wow, what a hero. I’d be biting my tongue not to ask him how big his balls were. He trained astronauts! Incredible. And Brother Theodore to boot!!??? C’mon this is brilliant.
Chuck was clearly a riot.
The word "hero" is tossed around these days, but General Yeager really was one.
It's such a treat to see these guests and interviews.
What a shame that CZcams wasn't around so that Johnny could do something like this, I don't know if he would've but it'd have been great.
There's tons of Carson videos on youtube
The airport named after him can be a wild landing.
Best flying stories ever...
The fastest man alive , thx General
4,520??? I get scared at 200mph but that’s in a car lol
Additionally, when Chuck broke the sound barrier in the X-1, the whole thing was top secret, so his great accomplishment was not publicized at the time.😢
Excellent art direction. Would love to see more best of, Re fast and creative problem solving. ❤
What a ratbag! Love this man as a pilot and a person…had a smile and a glint in his eyes that just spoke volumes and was testimony to his character. Live on legend!
Rip, sweet prince
Had the honor of meeting him twice with Bud Thompson and work on his book. They make them like that anymore!
Oh, he had to say that or the other guys would beat the hell outta him and say it was coyotes.
Must be animated simulation day.
I took a cruise down Chuck Yeager Rd, just outside Beale AFB, in Northern Calif. Back around the covid lockdown time.
Quiet, quaint country drive...
Wait a sec, where's the Brother Theodore segment?! Chuck was great but he wasn't quite the legend that was Brother Theodore.
Have any Beeman’s?
Damn right. I met him twice.
Greg? Great actor!
😂😂
A Dunphy classic.
You forgot a that in the title
The word "that" is almost always unnecessary in effective communication. We all understood what the title meant.
No, they forgot the word “than.”
(Just sayin’)😂
An actual hero
