Agreed. The price of the 6 essential split pallete set would be 6 full 11 oz tubes of w&n. So most likely will just get one color or two at a time until I get the 6 main.
They aren't worth it. If you want to throw away your money just to say you have it go for it. Just know this company operates on a flash pop up basis. They give product away to youtubers to hype it. Raise prices to make it seem botique, then pretend to be out of stock 25 days out of a month. This gives the false impressions of a high quality much purchased product. Thus causing people to impulse buy for fomo. It's all a marketing scam. Well, maybe I shouldn't say scam. It isn't a secret and everyone knows how this marketing scheme works. So scam isn't the right word. Marketing psychology is better. You'd be better off buying your own pigments and mixing your own or buying reputable single pigment paints. Remember, almost none of A Gallo paints are single pigment or the top pigments. Almost all are lower value / grade pigments mixed to make a single hue. The fact that youtubers do not spend their adSense,, CZcams views, sponsorship money on these paints, even when they get to write the cost off, should tell you all something.
Recall it wasn't too long ago when these very same youtubers were pushing the single pigment mission gold the exact same way.
If you aren't a CZcamsr just get the least expensive good quality single pigment paint that's always in stock you can find. India sells great quality single pigment paints at exceptional prices. 24 10ml tubes of artist quality single pigments paints for $10.00 - $15.00. Prices vary

I’m a beginner and I decided to treat myself with these paintings for Xmas and I can’t wait to open them! After struggeling a lot with the “you must have colours” I just decided to listen to myself and just get the colours I really liked and I feel I will enjoy the most
These are such pigmented paints! Interestingly, I bought 6 individual pans from them this summer, for the first time, and they arrived tucked in a mini-tin, with a "Custom" label on the box, and six adhesive magnets for the pans. It looks like the same mini-tin model they sell their own 6-colour palettes in, such as "Landscape 6" or "Earth 6".
Needless to say, this was a wonderful surprise! I was expecting to get six free-roaming pans, as there is no mention of a free tin included in purchases of 6 pans on their website. I believe they only mention this with purchases of 12 pans.
I have no idea if I got very lucky, or if they do this for every purchase of 6 pans, but I was pleased. They truly put a lot of care and love into their paints and presentation.
The Tintoretto brushes are now my absolute favorites. The size 6 travel, that came with my set, is amazing! I'm waiting for their next restock, to get a bunch of their synthetics.

Another who just does not need any more watercolours of any brand. But as a nerd I want them…… those greens you swatched first remind me a bit of Kremer pea green which would I think sit in between them. So many colours I would like here but it is the dark ones that are calling… Have a great holiday season…. Best wishes for the New Year too. Can’t believe this one went so fast!
"They're a very well behaved paint" - yes that is so true :D that's what I love the most about my A Gallo paints, they just perform beautifully no matter what you do to them, chuck water at them, lift them, mix them together, spray them etc, they just never misbehave and come out on all paper types beautifully. I've got 49 of them so far through various sales and discounts and I'm saving to get the rest.

I loved Pietra Rossa too - it either means "red stone" or "pink stone" (I keep forgetting if "rosa" is pink or red in Italian.. 😂)

Don’t you love the faint smell of rosemary that wafts up at you as you re-wet the pans? Pietra Rosa means ‘pink stone’ and isn’t that the perfect name for such a lovely colour? You are a total inspiration to me and a very great help in my watercolour journey 🤗❤️🇨🇦
Just to add a comment for the general public who thinks A. Gallo is too expensive, the brushes are WAAAY cheaper than all your other large commercial companies. I have nearly all of the brushes they offer. As for the paints, $9 a half pan is completely reasonable, and it's about the same price as most other large commercial companies. As someone who has purchased SO many small business homemade paints, a half pan will run you between $8-$25, depending on the company. If it's expensive for you, I recommend you set your alarm for the last Sunday of each month, and buy a few paints and brushes at a time.
I really enjoy her paints, and I have some of her accessories (brushes, paper, brush holder wrap, etc.), which I truly enjoy. Alina does her own customer service, and is such a kind lady. I'm in love with her copper blue paint, and many others. I haven't been on her site for awhile, as I've put a halt on paint buying in 2022 until 2023. Can't wait til January 22nd to stock up on more!!!

Oto I so appreciate you reviewing these paints. And it WAS extremely generous of A Gallo to send you every paint they make. I’ve seen other reviews for them but you have convinced me to move them up my List. Every color intrigues me. It’s good to think that by being featured in Jackson’s they’ve most likely found reliable sources for their pigments. I’ve been on their email list forever it seems and our worlds have not yet connected, lol. I’ve wanted them from the very beginning but the price has made them a little too “precious,” tbt. That makes me wonder how they will wear. Lovely video. Thank you.

The Dark Forest is the perfect "sea storm sky" color! Put some wispy grey clouds on that and it says, "stay indoors! Intense weather!" Hoping you are having a great time in Japan!

Elizabeth Keefner here.... I love, love, love this brand. They have become my very favorite paints I have. I find myself reaching for them over all my other paints. Some day I will have hopefully have all their colors. From this group you swatched though the Dark Forrest is amazing! I love perylene green so this is right up my ally. I have the Pietra Rosa and I can say it is an absolute joy to paint with. I use it now over Potters Pink all the time. Also have you looked at their drawing stones? I am very intrigued by these but don't know how I would use them . It would be so amazing if you worked with A Gallo to do a review of them.
So cool! Pietra means stone. So it's pink stone. IIRC it refers to a pinkish rock used for building material. I could be totally off my noggin there.
Pietra is wonderful, and notterno. I also love Ercolano and Copper. And olive and harbor.

I'm buying the gold! The Dragon's blood looks like a transparent Indian Red. Love the Burnt Umber. Like the rose, but wouldn't use it enough to justify the expense. Ultramarine Pink,,, meh. Love the ultramarine violet. Great Sepia! Great Forest Green, I'll buy that one, too. Great demo, thanks.
They are definitely very very beautiful colours and it's very generous of them to send you all their colours. Thank you for reviewing them. As great as they look, it isn't for everyone as the prices are just ridiculously high. I think I will stick to my Windsor and Newton.
I may be murdered for what I say, but here goes. Part of the allure of these paints is their provenance and their packaging. They are very nice paints, don’t get me wrong. I have three sets but what do I mostly use? My Daniel Smiths. I think there is a bit of a learning curve with these paints, and I never can get good results. If you can afford them, treat yourself by all means. If you can’t, yearn no more!

A lot depends on where you are located as it massively affects both prices, and how the paint behaves (dry air vs wet air etc).
I’ve definitely managed to cure my buying obsession and now only ever get a couple of colours to try rather than sets. Saved me a fortune. The most difficult thing is finding time and mental energy to paint. That has to be the priority.

I just ordered a split primary set and now I'm even more excited about getting this brand... Be warned, I went online to buy as soon as they launched and one of the colors I wanted sold out before I could check out... I had it in my cart... and it disappeared.... Have you looked at Roman Szmal browns? They have a great range, something for everyone.

@@reneaclark7689 Oh they have a million earth tones including cypress burnt umber, you should definitely check them out. The A Gallo paints look amazing but are a major splurge while RS are super affordable :)

I have been watching this series from the start and was first introduced to A. Gallo through you! Upon research, I found that they are handmade in ASSISI - a city that is near and dear to my heart! I'm hoping to be able to grab paint for myself within the next year or so! Thank you so much for sharing your excitement!

I've been trying to get my hands on Pietra Rosa for months, and I can't find Dragon's Blood to order it.
These colors are definitely hard to beat, BUT most have too many pigments, which I prefer not to mix with any other color as the result is so unknown.
Are those natural pigments lightfast, or are they like lake pigments, plant-based ones and not?
If I'm not mistaken, they are less than excellent, which is why Dragon's Blood and Indigo have been taken out of the sets.
Dragon’s Blood resin contains arsenic? some elemental toxin escaping my memory, which can be absorbed through the skin. So the old legend of killing by dipping a person’s shirt in dragon’s blood and letting them wear it? Works. Happy holidays! 🤣
The colors arrives, mixed palette is a bit dry and does not smell. The colors were not that intense for me and some were different color to what I expected… hmmm… still like them. But very expensive….

Why is everyone so excited about dragons blood? It looks like blood. Creepy
If you've ever cut yourself and accidentally bled on a paper, you'd find that blood is actually much, much darker when it dries.
(I may have had a cut on my hand that kept reopening as I was packing to move.... I ended up with streaks of dark brown on several of the boxes I packed...)
I can’t stand when peoples pinkies stick out like that. Makes my skin crawl.
