These kinds of stories in game development are just interesting to me even if they are very minor. Version differences between regions have always interested me.
@@LargeToastie also Lao Gui in chinese has a different appearance based on the voice actor, i think it was a movie star or something.
@@SnowiestAngemanActually you were spot on. Lao Gui's lines actually do not correspond with what he says in the Japanese version's audio audio. But with the Chinese version audio the lines match.
Looks indeed like Yakuza 0's english translation was built on the chinese one and then it got localized into what we know.
That's a genuine "ohhhh" piece of trivia especially combined with the Lao Gui evidence others have mentioned
They're not useless facts, they're facts that you bring up randomly when a conversation becomes boring

Since you seem to love these facts did you know that in the French version, since they obviously couldn't use "Bon Voyage" in the subtitles, they used "have fun" instead. Which makes Ichi not getting simple English when he's going to Hawaii... Which actually fits 😂

Having never listened to the English dub version of Bryce I'm well impressed with just how much more intimidating he sounds
It's so much easier to be intimidated by Bryce when he doesn't sound like a senior citizens' home escapee they found halfway through the Grey Goose stock at the 24-hour liquor store lmao

Something I do really like about Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth is that stats are definitely more tied to the job, rather than the character, meaning you can actually make Adachi useful.
3:03, Italian viewer here, I can confirm that in the Italian translation they still go with "While surrounded by enemies"
here’s a fun fact:
in at least like a dragon gaiden, you can press L3 or equivalent to drop a weapon, doing the animation that happens at the end of a fight if your holding a weapon. That means they actually made something worse than throwing a weapon in combat.

I really like the yakuza breakup scene because in 7 its more brighter because ichiban is fan boying right now, and in gaiden its darker because kiryu has been through a lotta shit to get here😂

imo the only real bummer with the English dub of 8 is the way the karaoke tracks are produced. Often they’re missing effects or entire harmonies, and the pitch correction is *really* noticeable. I’m sure the team just had much more experience producing dialogue than music though
(And sure, yeah, Kiryu should sound like 20 years older, but Yong does a solid job with the emotional scenes especially. He’s never half as distracting as Japanese Bryce speaking English)

Funny thing, but the French subtitles for Infinite Wealth (which, btw, are only there since Judgment), don't say "Bon Voyage", but "Have Fun" (in English), because it wouldn't make sense otherwise

In Lost Judgment's parkour segments, you can slide along the wall with the same stick movement as 1:18 and it's just as funny as it sounds lol

I was more under the impression that the XIV in the Amon theme was because it's the 14th time we fight the Amon clan in the franchise (excluding rereleases) would make a lot more sense as we wouldn't have to make exceptions like ignoring the Kurohyou games seeing as he wasn't in those games as far as I know

My trick with Nanba's low attack was to just use the Gearworks brand that allows him to use his Magic stat for physical damage. Now I have a Nanba with 600+ Magic which is basically also his Attack.
Fun Fact: In LAD:Ishin/Ishin Kiwami Ryoma has Kiryus "Rising Sweep" wake up attack

Good on you for talking about the dubs. I’m fine with hearing things in Japanese. But I try to use English dubs when possible to be better immersed. I honestly was interested in how the English characters in IW would sound in different dubs.

I only knew this cuz of a mod, but Kiryu actually uses Yagami's walking animation from Tiger style, specifically where he's not locked in but close to an enemy
the mistranslation on gaiden escape throw move is present on the portuguese translation of the game too. So it must be true for all languages (at least the west ones) because they all derive from the english version
i had to look behind me just in case.

about the trivia at 3:04 the error is the same even in italian because it says "quando i nemici ti circondano premi *then there are the buttons*" the translation of this is while surrounded by enemies press the buttons
I had no idea about mistranslations in the games because I play them in Japanese, so honestly sometimes when I see footage of the subtitles or interface sometimes I'm like wtf is this shit. But like come on man, I can at least understand making errors in the actual text because I'm a translator myself, but how could they have screwed up the buttons?
1:30, didn't mention my favorite, in the 5 engine games (5, 0, K1) where they allow you to hold R1 outside of combat tow alk, if you run forwards and spam R1 you'll shit walk

Fun fact about Russian localization (I dunno if it's related to other languages) - in karaoke text boxes for simple interjections and passionate interjections were swapped, so for a long time I couldn't understand why I was playing like a rhythm god and never got a score higher than 90. It was fixed only in Infinite Wealth, so in Like a Dragon and Gaiden more difficult and lively interjections presumably were just simple and ordinary karaoke singing
I wouldn’t have known the first one cause after beating it twice I modded it to replace the coliseum music with Kurohyous.
I haven't heard the Chinese dub until now and wow it's actually real damn good. Especially with the English. So much better than the Japanese dub's English scenes.
