  • Simple way to compost kitchen waste with cow dung, no odor, no maggots
Using kitchen waste to grow plants properly brings many benefits to people and the environment.
At home, I often use leftover fruit and vegetable peels, because there are a lot of them every day. If this amount of waste is released into the environment, it will be very difficult for the cleaners.
After harvesting our fruits and vegetables, we often throw away a lot of inedible stems and leaves, so we always put them in the kitchen trash.
Before putting them in the kitchen trash, I usually cut these fruits and vegetables into small pieces. The smaller they are, the faster they decompose. Although it takes a bit of effort, in return it saves space and soon has compost to use.
Here I use a 22 liter plastic bucket, with a basket lined at the bottom to let the vegetables and fruits leak out, to avoid rotting the compost. When putting kitchen trash in, it's best to cover it with a plastic bag to avoid the smell from spreading to the neighbors' houses.
Remember to close the lid as tightly as possible. Every day like that, cut up as much fruit and vegetable waste as you have and put it in the kitchen compost bin.
The following types of kitchen waste should be put in the compost bin such as: vegetable stumps, wilted vegetable roots, fruit and vegetable peels, egg shells, tea grounds, coffee grounds, wilted flowers, rotten tofu, etc. .. except for very thick peels such as jackfruit peel, durian peel,...
We should note that we should limit putting greasy fruits and vegetables, animal meat, etc. into the compost bin because when they decompose, they will create a very unpleasant odor, and are very easy to get. Ants or maggots appear.
After the kitchen compost bin is full, I leave it for three days and then take it out to compost with cow manure.
Mixing ratio for composting is as follows:
    - Prepare a bowl of kitchen trash,
    - Next, evenly spread Trichoderma mushrooms (0.5kg bag) - this type has a mixture of beneficial microorganisms that will prevent yellowing leaves, root rot,... and also helps improve soil.
    - Then I use the antagonistic mushroom Trichoderma (1kg bag), used to compost plant residue and manure into kitchen compost.
    - Finally, add a bowl of dry cow manure and mix well.
During the composting process, the leachate from kitchen waste will be completely absorbed by dry cow manure, so it is very clean. The composting process is quick, after only a minimum of 3 weeks, kitchen waste composting is completed.
Close the compost bin with a plastic bag and a tight tie so that no odors escape and there are no maggots.
After 1 week, on the surface of the compost there were a few white fungal filaments, meaning a mixture of beneficial microorganisms was growing. They are decomposing kitchen waste and cow manure into easily digestible nutrients for plants.
We should incubate after 4 weeks, because then the mixture of beneficial microorganisms grows densely. The bad smell is no longer there, and the compost bin is no longer hot. This is when the compost bin can be used to fertilize plants directly.
Today, I will fertilize the pumpkin plant. We should cut the leaves near the base for easy fertilization. Remove all the egg shells on the soil surface and then add compost to the pot surface. Remember to fertilize away from the root, this is the principle for fertilizing any type of fertilizer. Because if we fertilize too close to the tree's base, then when the amount of fertilizer is too much, the tree's roots will easily burn or become waterlogged,... and there is a risk of killing the tree.
When you're done fertilizing, cover the eggshell layer you just removed earlier. This eggshell will help keep the soil moist, and beneficial microorganisms will also grow richly under this surface layer. Remember to water twice a day, morning and evening, so that nutrients can be mixed into the soil and easily absorbed by plant roots.
Usually, I fertilize once every 2 weeks.
Good luck. See you in the next videos.
