- This is a tutorial on how to make an advanced wire work tree of life. Please feel free to give it a go yourself and I hope you enjoy.
This is my original design and you are free to recreate this piece of jewellery if you like and also to sell any pieces you make from this as long as it is not commercial or wholesale, but please refrain from reproducing a tutorial for this in any way.

I really like this tutorial - I've tried it and did pretty good until I got to the BAIL making - the video seems blurry and they yellow background does not help any! Would you please consider doing just a separate video on just the pretty BAIL? I would like to know how to do it the way you did. Mine was a mess and it was so TIGHT that it was truly difficult to get the wire through when trying to attach it - I actually broke my wire twice doing that portion! PLEASE a separate video on bail making only - maybe with a black background? THANKS so much - I really think you are a wonderful teacher.

Сколько сантиметров проволоки вы оплетаете и сколько остается без оплетки? Возможно вы говорите об этом в своем видео, но тем, кто английского не знает, помогло бы, если бы вы почаще прикладывали линейку к своему изделию на разных этапах его изготовления.Буду благодарна, если учтёте моё пожелание.
lydmila N The diameter of the finished circle is about 7cm, but you can really make it whatever size you want it to be, and you can test it out as you go and then always weave a bit more if you want it a little larger. I hope that was helpful :-)

Your seasonal trees of life are gorgeous, and elegant. I like the intro for the tutorial. It gives us a sense of your work. I love the double hoop wire weaving! The tutorial is at such a lovely pace, and besides inspirational, easy to follow. Wondering what wire you are using? Silver plated? Or non-tarnishing artistic wire? I asked a similar question on another tutorial. Don't mean to be annoying, just trying to figure out the wire. I have never used this kind of wire, so am intrigued. I have done a number of trees of life--and seen countless videos--and am amazed at how different approaches there are--but yours makes sense to me. Thanks for being so generous of spirit in sharing what you know. And love your web site and blog!

This is the best tutorial for the tree of life I've seen. My only question is: How long do you make the wire for the branches? I'd hate to get close to the end and find out I don't have enough wire to finish.
You are a wonderful teacher! I've seen several of your tutorials & have enjoyed each one. Your instructions are very clear, your tips are appreciated, and your refraining from trying to entertain and concentrating on teaching a skill is really appreciated. I saw this last night on my IPad and then lost it - had to hunt a couple of hours to find it again! Do you have just one site where you post your tutorials? Or, how do I EASILY find them? I like it that you post a FINISHED picture at the beginning of the video because I can sometime find you by your pictures. Thanks for your assistance!

Awesome tutorial!!! I would like to make this tree of life using stainless steel wire. What gauges would I use? Is there a chart that converts soft metal gauges into harder metal gauges (if that makes sense)?
What a fantastic tutorial. I watched the entire video and want to say thank you for sharing. Is there a particular brand of fine wire you find to be easier to manipulate without breaking or are they all the same? You always make things look so easy. Btw I am a pen fanatic and was wondering what type of pen that u use . Looks very cool. Lol thanks again.
Paula Binkley Thank you very much. I am using copper wire that is then coated in Sterling silver and then has an e-coating which makes it hypo-allergenic and helps prevent tarnishing. I prefer to work with softer wire. Hehe, I have always had a thing for pens as well. Not quite sure why. It is a frixion pen. It's a pen that you can actually erase. I love them. I don't really use anything else since I discovered them years ago :-P

No problem :-) Where I get my wire they don't state a specific hardness, but I know that it is in the soft end of the scale as it is quite malleable ;-)

I want to make this piece, but I'm new to jewelry making. Can you tell me more about the type of wire you use? On other tutorials I have heard ladies use words like "dead soft" and "silver-filled." I'm clueless about wire in general. I want to know the right type to get to make beautiful pieces that will that and have minimal tarnishing issues. Can you help? Thank you for sharing these wonderful videos. I hope I can recreate your beautiful pieces.

I'll certainly try and help :-) Yes there are quite a few different types of wire and it can seem a little confusing. There are categories like 'dead soft', 'hard' and more in between, and they all have their different uses for what they are best for. The main thing I would say it can give an indication of is how malleable and easy it will be to work with. When you are just starting out I would probably suggest going for the softer range of wires until you get more used to working with wire as the hard ones can be more difficult when you're not used to it. Regarding tarnishing it is really most a matter of trial and error. All metal will tarnish eventually, but you can get wires that are purposely made to last longer before tarnishing. They will then have different coatings on them to prevent the tarnishing. The wire that I use is a copper based wire that is then coated in a layer of sterling silver and then a colour if it is a coloured wire, and then it has an e-coating to make it hypo-allergenic and help prevent tarnishing. But if your pieces do tarnish eventually, there are things you can do to clean them. I hope that was just a little helpful, and I would love to know how you get on with it

+D Houck No it is all round wire I am using in this. It is probably just the lighting playing tricks or something. If I use square wire at any point I'll make sure to mention it :-)

+Claire Massicotte I think it was about 25cm, but I can't remember exactly as it was a long time ago, but you could make it smaller or bigger anyway depending how you like yours. Maybe take a length of wire or cord and then just roughly form a circle of the size you want with it and then you can measure the length to see how long you will need to weave, to achieve the size circle you want :-)

Hello again...... Rebecca here. :-) I was wondering where you purchased your bead chips? I have searched my local stores and no one carries them small enough for this project. Do you have an online source you use? I am ready to make this lovely piece, but no chips! lol I was considering seed beads, but don't think it will give me the same look. Thank you for your help.
peaches5712 I have got them from a few different places. But I would recommend looking on online jewellery making supply shops, and also places like Etsy and ebay, you should be able to find them. I hope that helped :-)
What size gemstones did you use?
Very nice. I have made a couple of similar pieces but I use nail polish for the leaves. You can see them if you are interested on my Google page. I am particularly pleased with the Mk2 version. Keep on having fun.

Josephine Rock Thank you. I sell mine for £35 each and that's using silver plated copper and genuine gemstones. So the price would also depend on the materials. I.e. if you are using sterling silver the price would be substantially higher. I hope that helped :-)
