Why San Cristobal de Las Casas Should Be Your Next Move!
If you're considering moving to Mexico but are finding that a lot of places are getting too expensive or becoming too saturated with other expats, then I want you to discover San Cristobal de Las Casas!
Here you can find rentals starting at $4,000 pesos for a studio or $8,000 pesos for a nice 1 bedroom casita.
In this video, I break down the top neighborhoods to live in, the cost of living in San Cris, Rental examples, grocery store options, and why this town is the perfect place for expats.
San Cristobal has a strong community, a very rich culture with a mix of indigenous people, a variety of dialects, beautiful nature, and affordable living.
Plus, the weather is constantly cool and crisp, which is great for people who love mountainous air. It's never too hot and never too cold.

I have been to San Cristóbal twice and absolutely love it! It is definitely at the top of my list. I do speak Spanish so I think I could manage there. I also love the countryside around the city for recreation. The indigenous influence is very important to me-I love the culture and arts. Just have to get my husband to visit!

Love, love Sancris…I’ve been there 6-7 times and have felt that I could easily live there- the challenge is that I want to swim every day. Thanks Mariana, I totally agree with your sentiments here!💖 The wildness and indigenous energy really elevates Chiapas…such an amazing place!

The indigenous languages are not “dialects” but rather distinct languages. The common differentiation in Mexico between indigenous “dialects” and European “languages” is a pretty deeply ingrained way that the indigenous is devalued and the European is placed in a superior location. If anything, Mexican Spanish is a dialect in the larger Spanish language world.

Thanks so much for this wonderfully produced video. This is definitely a place we need to check out as the Lake Chapala area has turned out to be a bit warmer than what we'd ultimately like to find. Plus, the bohemian culture seems right up our alley. We are excited to plan a trip in the future.

I'm preparing to visit San Cristobal de las Casas in mid-January 2024. I may stay long term. I'd go sooner but I'm still waiting for my passport. Also, I figured I'd wait until the holidays are over. Very helpful video, thanks! I've subscribed as I'm sure I'll find plenty of information here. If/when I decide to seek residency in Mexico, I'll turn to you guys for assistance.

I spent about a month in barrio Mexicanos. I loved the food, markets, and interesting cultural activities. However it was the noisiest Mexicanos city I have stayed in. The local spiritual practices are constantly being celebrated with parades and coñetes ( spelling) at 5 am or in the night.
I was also pretty cold at night! I arrived there from Guatemala, a long and arduous journey overland. :)

¡Me encanta San Cris! Sin duda es una de mis ciudades favoritas del mundo :) Definitely among the top 2 or 3 towns in which I'd like to spend more than the few weeks I have. Best coffee in town: Café la Selva! My favorite hostel with super low prices and a rooftop terrace with views of the city hosted by really friendly and warm Adolfo: "Fuego Nuevo", located at Periodista Isauro Rosete 18A, Barrio la Merced. Muchas gracias Marina por un video maravilloso!
