- Once up on the hard, we decided to take our mast off of our sailboat. This is the process. Even with it going smoothly and a 100 ft crane, it was still pretty stressful!

..... now you have a hole in your cabin top .. smilin .... think that is pretty common, start digging into a problem which leads to another being uncovered, and consequently your to-do list lengthens .... if looked at it as a bother, it will get you down, if you look at it as getting to know your boat, making it trustworthy and safe, as well as learning to fix your home, you will be able to fix your boat where ever you are on your adventures ... your fixing the head floor was your introduction to fiber glassing and you will continue learning that skill as you progress with repairs .... the greatest satisfaction will be looking at the tasks that you have completed, we did that, and then checking them off or moving completed tasks from the to-do side to the done side .... everything in life that is worthwhile takes time and effort ..... good job getting the mast down, check!! ...... never stop dreaming, just dream bigger ..... have fun be safe, save our oceans ......
Thanks for the encouraging words! And thanks for watching!
We add a large coin under our mast to create a slight angle backwards to the mast so if you ever fall over board the angle causes the boat to circle back to you. So I'm told but I don't really want to test it.
The dollar is a silver coin placed there for good luck. I am in the uk and we still add silver coins to bottom of many things as good luck with the hard work.
Thanks for the info! I had no idea
But a lonnie isn't all silver! Bad luck! Get an old silver dollar.
Do you have one under your mast?
Yes, I wanted it for 51 the year I was born but couldn't find one that year, Can't remember what year it was have it written down somewhere! 1964 and older are 90% silver!
One thing after another! Damn straight, I get that ! Under my mast, I have cupping so ill be ripping in to the core as well.
hope your projects are going well!
Hi all, Pete here from the CZcams channel Facebook group. Anyway, grumpy righteous Trev Hedges decided that asking questions and giving advice was not what he wanted on his Facebook page so I got booted off. Now I thought as a member of the non boating public we could talk and chat and pass ideas freely either way so we both enjoyed the outcome. I actually gave out several dozen ideas to you over that coin on your mast. I hope the posts I sent this morning are still there for you to see if not try to message me and I can send you a load more.
This is where Trevs ignorance is stifling the video producers. I am trying to give away hundreds of ideas and Trev is not allowing that. So just be warned. Trev is not as helpful as he makes out and certainly does not allow any member of the public to challenge the status quo or ideas for videos.
Pete
Hey Pete,
Thanks for the comments. I hadn’t had a chance to read your thread in there yet and I haven’t had any direct dealings with the admins in there, but you’re more than welcome to share your related ideas on our videos. Just know that if you post numerous comments in series that CZcams might flag your comments as spam and hide them, which is out of my control, so posting a bigger single comment is probably a better bet! I’ll go read your Facebook comments right now 😌
Yes, you have to have the lucky loony under the mast otherwise the Sea Gods will be unkind!
Oh guys I feel for you.
Keep on smiling...
Did you have the boat surveyed before purchasing?
I am hoping you will not find any other surprises and be able to splash soon, Cheers, Richard
Us too! Thanks ☺️
Oh bummer, rot sucks! Are you guys going to change the stainless mast base in the floor to aluminium ?
No it has to stay stainless because of the strength needed. We are just trying to figure out if we can paint the base or something to keep it from corroding as much. Not sure yet
You get used to it, we step/destep every year on the great lakes!
Oh really? Any particular reason?
@@WaywardLifeSailing ...Winter. Many many yards don"t allow mast up storage over the winter.
Oh really? I had no idea. That’s really interesting!
Wayward Life Sailing yep, and to make it more fun...I have a ketch so I have two masts to deal with AND a piece of rigging that requires a trip to the top of the mizzenmast mast twice a year to connect/disconnect!!!
Haha sounds like a lot of work for sure!
