    Yeah, well, we can't all go on TV and/or aren't willing to publicly humiliate ourselves in order to get the dental care we NEED. The fact is, people shouldn't have to go to such extremes just to finally get their damn teeth fixed or replaced because we can't afford the INSANE expense of getting dental care. -_-

      Arlene S it's funny people go out and buy $700 cell phones and buy really expensive cameras are they go on really expensive vacations and they might have them for what a year ...vacation for a week it makes no sense you use your teeth every single day for your entire life you have to take care of your teeth. That means brushing them 3 to 5 minutes twice a day flossing them every single day if you have a cavity problem rinse your mouth out regularly with baking soda and water it neutralizes acid regularly as in several times a day and I bet you stop having cavities but the cavities that you already have will not go awaythose teeth will need to be fixed so stop buying the new cell phone stop buying the expensive shoes stop buying the expensive coat coach purses and get a real life and get your teeth fixed

      The government does not take dental health seriously and therefore will not cover certain procedures if you are on medicaid. No one realizes the cost of overhead to run a Dental practice; as it can be 75% of your fee. This is not the Dentist's take home pay.

      in my experienc eating fruit it the way to go. Then you need to use a ultra soft brush but most of the cleaning is done by the fruit. bad teeth are the least of yor worries. It means there is trouble further down in the digestive tract and cleaning of the body such as the kidneys and lymphatic system. fix that and the teeth will get better.

    I'm proud of her. She's not only creative, she's resourceful. She deserves an opportunity to pursue a career in this. They should help her. I would love to see her open her own practice. She's beautiful. They're acting like she caused this. I don't believe she did. My friend was 20, good hygiene habits, had to rush to the dentist because of an abscessed tooth. They told her all top teeth were dissolving from the roots and would fall out by the time she was 25. They've held on but who knows if they'll stay until 30? We were in college and she didn't have the money to fix them. Now that she does, she's forgotten all about it. She probably won't remember until she's eating a salad and one falls out

    Yea but then don't say a darn thing about how expensive it is to go to a dentist. I ate healthy, had healthy teeth, got pregnant, and my teeth started falling apart. I never ate sweets, never drank soda, nothing. It's been 12 years since my last child was born. I'm now 36, have a mouth full of rotted teeth that are so bad, they won't be able to be pulled, and will have to be surgically removed because there's nothing to grab. I have heart problems now only because of my teeth problems. When I found that out I didn't believe it, but that's what my physician said. I'm laid up constantly with severe tooth pain, huge lumps on my gums filled with whatever the hell it is. So many people are in my position, and just like this lady, we can't afford dental care! It's pathetic it costs so much to have teeth fixed when someone like me took extra special care of my teeth, and they still rotted out! It shouldn't cost more to see a dentist, than to see a physician! It shouldn't EVER cost people the amount of money you pay for a brand new car, or for a fixer upper house to see a dentist and get your teeth fixed! That's RIDICULOUS! There are so many people in the United States in my position, and it really sucks! Because of how unbelievably expensive it is to see a dentist, I will probably die from heart complications stemming from my decaying teeth, before I'll ever be able to afford to get my teeth fixed!

      Mamacita Jen I'm in a very similar boat.
      it's absolutely disgusting how dentists profit off people who are dying a slow death. I have been on a waiting list for income based dentistry for 7 years. before things got really bad. 4 years ago a tooth formed an abscess. I went to every dentist in town in tears from the pain. no one would help. a week later when my face was swollen the size of a softball I went to the ER.
      they took one look at me and said I needed to see a dentist that day. told them it wasn't possible, that I'd tried every resource available to no avail. they called the low income dentist , who said they weren't taking new patients. they injected me with dye to track the infection. it was less than half an inch from brain stem!!!!
      they called the dentist back and told them they had to see me that day, and they still refused.
      they called the branch in the next town over, who refused as well. I had a male nurse and he literally said to them, "what the fuck do you mean you're not taking new patients! if she is not seen TODAY she will DIE! cancel a fucking cleaning, she'll be there in an hour!" they canceled that cleaning and got me in. then the dentist had the AUDACITY to ask me why I waited for it to get so bad to come in. WTF!!!
      They still won't take new patients, I'm still waiting. Four more teeth have crumbled, one is broken in half. it won't be long before the three normal teeth I have left on top follow suit. because there is no access to dental care for lower middle class!

      It may sound like that, but there are many risks associated with DIY dentures. First thing is the safety of the DIY material. The mouth has extreme temperature range (due to food), many chemicals present (from saliva, gastric acid reflux & food) & mechanical wear from chewing. Dentists won't recommend the DIY material at all because there is not enough safety information & testing done on it.
      The next point is the design of the DIY denture. THe individual DIY teeth pose a choking risk whenever it is in the mouth. It can be easily dislodged. On the other hand, a properly-designed denture has clasps and suction features to retain it in place. A DIY denture may not fit as well as a properly-designed one, and may move sideways a lot during chewing. This will then wriggle the remaining natural teeth & cause them to be pulled out.
      I am unsure why the dentures cost $40,000. The mom should have gone to a school of dentistry for much cheaper prices.

    Not cool how they blame sugar etc. Some people take care of their teeth very well and still end up with horrific issues. I had braces on my teeth for 6 years, always brushed etc. Due to medical conditions and medications prescribed I lost my teeth in a 5 year time frame. I recently got a full set of dentures. Will take me the rest of my life to get used to them. But could not afford partials. Any type of STATE insurance only covers complete full removal ...sad how this country works. I applaud this woman for making her own teeth , she needs to make a tutorial on how to do this for those that cant afford dentures or partials!

      I think they’re blaming sugar because it’s the biggest cause of tooth decay. That being said, caries develops by several contributors eg high sugar consumption + poor oral hygiene + social economic status + fluoride intake.

    • @jasonasdecker
      @jasonasdecker Před 6 lety

      If you have a high number of caries or other teeth issues ask for a blood calcium test. Anything higher then 10 means the next test should be a PTH test. If this is also high you have hyperparathyroidism which is causing low bone and teeth density leading to cavities and other problems.

    The images of her teeth shown in the previous video showed apical infection, severe bone loss, and decay. Making restoration extremely costly. I doubt there would be a good prognosis. I'm betting they will extract the few teeth she has left. Possibly they could do an implant supported denture. Just guessing of course. I'm no dentist. Just seen a lot of dental procedures over several years as a dental assistant.

There's clearly something else contributing to her problem.

    • @Anonymous-nr6qb
      @Anonymous-nr6qb Před 7 lety +9

      Lyndsey Reed Sugar plus inadequate oral hygiene is the number one cause for decay. Improper oral hygiene leads to gum disease which compromises the surrounding tooth structure leading to bone loss in the jaw. Both can occur simultaneously and one can loose their teeth very quickly because of it. Dentist don't say avoid sugar for no reason. When a hygienist tells you to brush and floss and teaches you how, listen. Don't shrug it off. Because you've been taught what to do and have been warned of the consequences.

    I knew they were going to give her a new smile for free. It's just sad that affordable corrective dental work is so out of reach for many. I'm fortunate that my job has a good dental plan for retirees. I was a junk food junkie who had a fear of dentists because of the drill & pain so I never went. I became so embarrassed by my mouth that I never smiled and hated taking pictures. By the time I was finally brave enough to go I had no back or side teeth. My best friend referred her dentist saying he was great and he will be painless. I went , I told him pull them all I want dentures. I never felt a thing. The dentures he made looked so great I smiled all the home that day. Then I made an appointment to see a primary care doctor (fear again) and when she checked my throat she had no idea I was wearing dentures.

      WOW!! I can relate SO much to your fear of dentists / doctors!! I had an excruciating experience with a dentist that happened about 15 years ago - he pulled my wisdom teeth and one molar w/o injecting enough novocain to thoroughly numb my mouth. I can't even put into words the level of pain I experienced from that procedure - both while it was happening and the recovery from it. It was beyond horrific. The experience has scarred me so badly that even though I have the money and the insurance to afford the dental work that I still need to have done - just the thought of sitting in that damn dentist chair again, riddles me with panic inducing anxiety. I am trying very hard just to bring myself to go for a simple cleaning but am afraid that I'll end up running out! I'm so glad that you shared your story - it truly gives me hope that I too, can one day face a dentist again.

    I'm pretty sure they will do implants. If they were going to give her more dentures then what difference does the sugar diet make. Anti sugar people aren't normal anyway! Sugar is a happy food, what is wrong with moderation of all things. Here's the real problem: the real world doesn't have a talk show host setting you up with free dental. The guy in the audience was great, he recognized her ability to make do. Until he said that it's like the host (isn't he dr Phil's son or son-in-law?) He was almost shaming her, like she should be embarrassed that she made her own teeth! Then the whole diet thing. It wasn't her fault! I have seen a ton of people with perfect chiclet white, strong teeth shoveling in the sugar, coffee, & soda. Some people are born with more fragile teeth. So those people don't deserve to eat the yummies? Maybe her parents were poor & her mom didn't have good prenatal. It doesn't even matter why, address the real issue, don't just fix one person's problem & everyone goes all warm and fuzzy, we should have affordable, better solutions to people with tooth loss. Normally I am big on if you can't afford life's necessities don't keep making babies. This woman wasn't asking for a hand out. She handled her problems. Another problem is partials that don't destroy the rest of your natural teeth. I hear that story repeatedly. Better affordable dental for real dental problems. Don't keep telling us what we are doing wrong, start earning all of that dental fee by inventing affordable,creative solutions because while she didn't use drugs there are going to be a lot of ex meth users that will need it!

    I've tried really hard to care for my teeth, but went through a horribly long period of traumatic emotional turmoil and lost all my upper and quite a few lower ones due to grinding my teeth at night. Now my two lower front teeth are going crooked! I was left with a partial upper bridge that covers my two front teeth and all teeth to my left side, and three implants started on the right when money ran out, so I ended up using nail acrylics to create an extension to my bridge so I can chew on my right side, because I have nothing past my canine on my lower left. Now I'm losing what lower teeth I have and replacing those with acrylics, and the neighboring teeth are starting to go because of those. I'd settle for dentures right now, but money is way too tight now that I'm retired and we can't even afford that. I can't afford to travel to where it's affordable, so I'm just stuck!

    It's exactly these types of shows that give away $100's/$1000's of dollars worth of services/product that cause a lot of people to go seeking DIY solutions for themselves without insurance coverage / personal funds to pay for professional services they would benefit from or who desperately need them.
    While I'm super happy for each and every person who has had their lives improved with these wonderful gifts, I find it oh so unfair to the rest of the population and those of us who will never receive help /gifts of this magnitude and what they would truly mean to our mental well being let alone our self confidence.

      Oh, believe me, dentists around here, upstate NY, know all about dental plans. They want you to get something called care credit, which basically is HIGH interest credit card IF YOU QUALIFY, and then any work done, since it's so expensive, is like snail mail...slow going. When a person is told they must pay 11k American Dollars to get the repair work done, you know right off the bat it isn't going to happen, if they don't have some dental insurance. Dentists know this as well, but they and their staff still try to get you to opt for the credit card and pay that much money. THAT IS HORRIBLE. It's the price of a car!

    Gotta make my own partial because of the outrageous amount the dentist want to make me one.
    Wish me luck!
    EDIT TO ADD: Got my kit in the mail and it was best $100 I've ever spent.
    My partial with 5 teeth turned out great and you absolutely can't tell it's not my real teeth.
    I made mine thin enough that it acts as a flexible denture, and I haven't had the first issue with it.
    Yes it's a shame that people have to resort to this, and it's easy for the professionals to tell you how bad of an idea it is to make your own dentures, but some people are left with no other option thanks to "the professionals" making dentistry so outrageously expensive.
    Maybe insurance company's would get more involved in offering affordable dental coverage to people if the cist would come down to a more reasonable level.
    I encourage anyone in a similar predicament as I was to order a kit and make your own.
    If done properly it will not worsen your dental health regardless of what these experts are claiming.

    took my 14 yr old son to the dentist last year, and was told he had no cavities. Took him back to the same dentist 6 months later was told he had a small cavity in one of his teeth and to bring him back the following month to have it fixed. Took him back the following month, they ex-rayed him again, was told he had 6 cavities. They said they needed to fill them right then, but I was skeptical about it because I'd never heard of anyone getting 5 cavities in one month, so I told them I would bring him back another time. So the following week I took him to a completely different dentist in a different town, I did not tell this dentist about what the other dentist had said about the 6 cavities. This dentist ex-rayed him, and cleaned his teeth and low and behold....not one cavity....none....zilch...naught-a. Now I just wonder.....what was the first dentist going to do?? Was he going to drill and fill perfect teeth just to make a buck??? Or was he going to do absolutely nothing and charge me for 6 fillings??? Either way, I'm really pissed off, just not sure what to do about it.

      Janet Wilham Chemo doesn't effect the calcium in your teeth. Once teeth have erupted, they are fully formed and no longer need a supply of calcium for strength. You probably lost salivary flow leading to dry mouth which can destroy teeth very quickly. Saliva is VERY important to preventing rapid decay. Plaque forms much quicker in a dry environment sho h can cause rapid cavities leading to them to break off.

I didnt get my first 'cavity' till I was 17, they were very superficial but the dentist still felt the need to carve out perfectly good parts of the teeth to fill it with mercury sealants. Didnt see a dentist again for 11 years and only had 3 more superficial cavities, only in the last couple of years have I lowered my sugar. Before you say genetics- my father has only half his teeth, my moms are rotting out of her mouth, my older sister had ALL of hers pulled because they were rotting from the inside out, my younger sister is missing several and same goes with most of my family. Something more is going on but since dentists and doctors have decided the cause they dont study alternatives anymore. Kinda like how they thought the body couldnt heal cavities(they can), or that lost enamel was gone for good only to find that that isnt true at all.

    Did he say coffee? I quit smoking, I quit drinking, I quit sugars, I quit processed foods, but I'll be ding danged if you're getting my coffee!!! At 68, I've earned that much!
    I have dentures. I spent many thousands of dollars trying to save my teeth but with degenerative bone loss in the jaw, I had to go dentures. I spent my life with dentists, but it just got worse and worse. The worst part is that I had very strong and white beautiful teeth- the bone/gums were the problem!

    Use a straw!! It makes a big difference. Drink all the coffee in the morning you want. Just rinse out your mouth well. Dont over brush, use a soft toothbrush and floss. Its not hard.

    I wish this would happen for me. My mother never took me to the dentist when I was young. By the time I was 17 years old I had to have 24 teeth pulled out in the hospital. I remember how mad the dentist was at her. I have been wearing dentures since. I am 64 years old. I'm so tired of wearing dentures. Wish I was free of them.

    sugar wasn't to blame she's couldn't handle dairy therefore she isn't getting the healthy amount of calcium plus pregnancy strips your calcium even more all that nutrients is being sucked out of you and going to your baby.....sure sugar had some part in it but it's not the huge cause of it she needs vitamins

    I have never been able to afford the dentist, ever!! I clean my own teeth with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. In my 30's and 40's I used to use Comet cleanser on a wash cloth a couple times a year. It actually worked great!!! Wasn't healthy for me but it worked. I have 4 cracked molars right now and keep praying they don't abscess. I only have these last 4 molars left, but I do have my front teeth. Fortunately, genetics gave me really strong teeth. My mercury fillings chipped off and took the teeth with them, they'd abscess and I'd Have them pulled, to the tune of $350.00. People who say "just go to the dentist, haven't a clue what it's really like!!!

    Prevention is key. I am a registered dental hygienist and from my experience, lack of proper oral hygiene and diet is the cause to majority of individuals problems. You can say it is genetics all you want, but that is actually a very, very, very tiny portion of it. Just because your mom, dad, grandma or grandpa lost all their teeth doesn't mean that you have too. Pregnancy is harsh on the teeth due to the hormone levels. Our gum tissue responds to plaque at a much more aggressive rate when our bodies are loaded with pregnancy hormones. So proper brushing and flossing as well as diet are so important to keeping our teeth nice and healthy. Routine dental visits are MUCH cheaper than just going to the dentist when something hurts. To say you've never been taught the proper way to take care of your teeth is probably true. However, with access to goggle and CZcams, you can get proper instruction for free. 40,000 is outrageous. A second opinion should have been made. Take some responsibility for your own problems and stop blaming others. Low income - get your kids on Medicaid. Take what they learn at dental visits seriously for them and yourself. Teach then how important oral health is so the never have to experience pain. Change the cycle. The definition of insanity is doing the same the repeatedly and expecting a different result.

      Cortany Lowry I brushed and flossed and brushed and flossed during my pregnancies,rarely ate junk food and maintained a perfect diet..I'm 35 with 7 kids and my dad had horrible teeth..Mine are falling piece by piece out of my mouth and those that aren't are black and discolored..So yes genetics and pregnancy play a huge part

    • @Anonymous-nr6qb
      @Anonymous-nr6qb Před 7 lety +1

      Baby Bunch I beg to differ. I've gone through the schooling and training for it. Brushing and flossing has to be done right. and what you may consider not to be junk food can be harsh on the teeth. Anything processed as well as carbohydrates can destroy the death. Did you strictly eat fruits, veggies, and meat? did you drink milk, juice or any other sweet beverage...the things you think aren't harsh on your teeth actually are. It's also how frequently you expose your teeth to these foods.

      Why are you judgmental do you realize how insensitive you are you know when people need help this is why they're afraid to go to the dentist. I know I was judge when I first started my journey with my teeth but now hygienist even realize I barely have any plaQue on my teeth when I come in its dry mouth due meds
      I became afraid of my dentist as a child because it was very rare for me to have a cavity as a child but my dentist did not believe that I could be nnot numb because he gave me alot numbing agent and because the list is very painful at the dentist when I did have a cavity because he did not realize that I did not respond to the numbing medicine like the average person another dentist found that out later on but scares me..but it was rare as a child bc I was given the best smile omost every year I was called or parents were to pick up my toy or gift card because I usually never had a cavity and everybody loves my smile . Things changed I went on chemo and other medications that made my mouth dry. And we have tried fluoride gel I put on my teeth and MI paste and bioiteen due dry mouth and brushing my teeth to do three times a day and flossing on top of using dry mouthwash a couple times a day to directed it by my dentist when I was 17 because the infection to the point 4 teeth had to come out on the bottom not counting my 5wisdom teeth because of how bad my ifection was my lower wisdom teeth got infected to caused such a bad infection I had done right away next morning under sedation I'm immune compromised and the infection spread it quick that year things went downhill quick my top teeth started going downhill after wtent on medication that included chemotherapy injections once a week and then finally I went to having 13 cavities by the age of 18 I filled them within six months to year they were all had cavities again I thought I had a crappy Dentist teeth because I had to switch that out when I got older so I switched and went to Enedina well same thing Happening a week before my 20th birthday the dentist told me you need to talk Denters and you'll qualify for now a lower partial because you're you will have for biting teeth to bite because beforehand I did not qualify for bottom partial after losing all the 4 the bottom end and I'll I talked to one of my doctors and she let me know that her husband with the dentist and he confirmed I needed the top Denters and I thought that cleaning every six months actually in May I have my cleaning I forget how many cavities I have been that we feel them and fix them after that well I just went for my six month cleaning less than a week ago and I have five cavities out of my eight teeth that I have left I would have technically had six cavities out of 9 if it wasn't for I had to have one tooth pulled about a month ago because it bottomed out is what my dentist told me and it wasn't savable and because of insurance they won't cover it for now but my dentist didn't think it would be worth either he thought I would just be wasting my money if I paid out-of-pocket for it because of my rate my teeth were going... well luckly my Dentist care because a couple weeks ago or actually last week he said that he was going to make me a Mouthtray and I was going to put medication in every night to try and save my last remaininnight to try and save my last remaining 8 teeth. My dentist is trying to do anything he can but I know most likely by the age 2425 I'm going to be toothless and it scares the crap out of me and so I hope you think about judging your next patient or judging the next person online even about their teeth because your dental hygienist or dental insistent whichever I forget which one is that

      Cortany Lowry if I went to the dentist and you were my hygienist, I would never go back. Don't judge, keep your opinions to yourself and do your job. I have horrible teeth, and so does one of my kids, our dentist calls it luck of the draw. we all eat, drink, brush and floss the same way.

    It's all fine and dandy to tell someone that you have to take care of your teeth but when you try to do the right thing they ask you for an extraordinary amount of money. I've got a few teeth missing and was told u have to get my top teeth removed and then get dentures. Total amount due if I wanted to do it was $10,000. I CAN NOT afford that so unfortunately I'm looking into doing my own partials.....can't afford anything else.
