In this clip, Michael Jai White started out by reacting to rumors that there won't be a rematch between Roy Jones Jr. and Mike Tyson, and he stated, "Who would want that?" He went on to say that he could see Holyfield and Tyson fighting again, and Michael added that Holyfield looks like he's stayed in top shape. He also shared that he met Holyfield at a fundraiser at his home, and he got the sense that the famed boxer didn't like him. Moving along, Michael reacted to Mike Tyson saying the biopic where Michael played him was "garbage," despite thinking Michael doing a great job. Michael explained that he knew that Tyson took issue with several scenes in the film, which they spoke about at length, and Michael added that he didn't think the issues seemed that large to him. @Meko I dunno, he looks fairly tall next to some other guys of that height. Either way 2-3 inches is a big difference when he’s supposed to be portraying an undersized heavyweight of that time. And the voice thing was terrible too. I blame the casting director though just as much as him.
@Meko Your right on that, but they didn’t do that in the film lol. I could point out alot of other reasons why it was a bad choice but one thing I can’t blame is MJW for taking the roll. Tyson was everyone’s hero back in the day and it was probably a huge deal to MJW at the time to be playing him. I actually really like MJW in other films so I’m not hating on his acting in general. Now these “sparring” sessions he keeps going on about, that’s a whole different story lol

Mike Tyson didn’t like the movie because it wasn’t all the way accurate. And if look like a low budget LifeTime movie on tv and not the quality of a major release.
It was HBO trying to cash in on Tyson's release from prison. Since he was no longer fighting for them at the time.
I believe what Michael J White is saying about biopics and consulting is true. You can't have the person the movie is about telling you how it's going to go because they'll just twist the story the way they want it to be seen even if it's not 100% true. Unless they paid for the movie

I don't understand "Biopics" after a person is dead. I would want their input and stories before I even attempt that kind of movie. It keeps it true like when Jamie Foxx played Ray Charles.
I mean, they get made when they get made. Of course, it's great to have the subject of the film involved, but it's not always possible for one to be made in their lifetime. Also, a lot of the time, from what I can see, the ones who are alive to participate don't have that much control over the film anyway.

2 of the Outlawz being involved in the Tupac movie didn’t help make anything more authentic. The scene where Tupac shot the 2 off duty cops wasn’t the way EDI explains it in interviews.
Also the scene where the kid got shot in Marin City from the altercation that involved Tupac wasn’t accurate. EDI is in that scene body slamming a dude. 🤦♂️ The way the story is told, Tupac was chased by people after the incident & got under a car to shield himself. Way more dramatic than the movie portrayed.

Keep in mind it was a rushed made for tv movie that was done right after Tyson was released from prison... So the Holyfield fights- the bite- didn't happen yet and the Tyson we know today and his evolution, too... So given what we knew of Tyson at that point in his young life and career, this movie was pretty decent for a 90's made for tv movie, and MJR really embodied the young Mike Tyson and all his glory and frailty!
I still think that Michael Jai did a Great Job acting in that movie. He only did what he could in terms of facts based on Tyson being in jail at the time.
Parts of the movie showed Tyson as an A-hole. Problem is, Tyson was an A-hole at the time.

I know why Mike ultimately didn’t like the movie because I watched it recently, the ending implied that he rap*d that girl and then they showed him getting convicted for it, I would’ve hated the movie too. It made the audience lean to the side of he’s guilty rather than he’s innocent.
I seen that biopic for the first time two weeks ago i couldnt stop watching it all the acting from every character was great but it was made a tad to early but i guess if its tyson finally losing because of personal things in his life being out of shape.losing to douglas it fit i love that biopic and would watch it again and again white was the embodiment of tyson in that movie
Yes, it's a great movie IMHO. As you mentioned the acting is top notch across the board. I was a big fan of Tyson's, who followed his career closely since the mid 1980s to the early 1990s. MJW absolutely nailed the part with regards to the man that I thought I knew through the media, etc. And the story line captured the aura that Tyson exuded. The lead up to the Spinks fight and the fight itself is the essence of why many considered him the "baddest" man on earth at the time.
