- In this week's episode, we take a look at one of the quirkiest lines that Danelectro (and by extension the great Steve Ridinger) ever produced: the Wasabi series. In addition to being one of the first 2-in-1 pedal series, they're just really fun to play, so this week we're giving them their due.

it feels like a long time since we had an old school jhs video, in front of the wall of pedals with the guys playing. nice to see it.
Ikr, I’m enjoying all the lives and stuff (especially the short circuit series) but I do wish they would do more of the old style episodes for sure
My guess is that it’s taking them longer to make the stuff without Addison there. He edited the videos
@@CMHobbiesagreed. I think they’re reworking a lot of things and are probably still filming and just taking their time on the pipeline part.
I love these formal formats the best
Agreed, but I'm guessing that any Addision videos will be recorded as a batch and then released one-by-one over time. Nothing in this Danelectro video references recent JHS videos or shorts (could have been recorded months ago). I also believe Addison won't appear on any future LIVE videos. No hating intended with this post, just sad reality of post-Addison era.
What I love about Josh is he always tells us when he has the box. Plus, he has better slide tone than Beato's friend.
Sick burn!
SO TRUE!!
The Dano pedals had footswitches that were merciful when playing barefoot or in socks.
I play barefoot in my socks
I love the tc electronic soft step switches
Yes, and they're very fragile, not to mention the pedals are big and gangly.
5:55 see what I mean?
Be vigilant about your ground especially if your lips touch a mic. You do NOT want to complete a circuit
Addison’s bass tone on the rockabye part was sick.
Would love a breakdown of what he's using on each jam.
My wallet might suffer but I need to know
When I stumbled on this channel, the stingers made me laugh, so I kept watching. This channel is the GOAT
6:05 was a huge moment for the channel. I'm so grateful you caught that.
Finally caught him sniffing the pedals! 🤣
When I found your page last year "he has the box" was such a big thing for me that I binged any of your videos, and showed people at work because we all thought it was funny.
I love Addisons bass tone for this episode so much that I could marry it, buy a house together, have a couple of kids, watch them grow and form their own families, then we ould move out to the countryside and spend our last days holding hands while we stare into the sunset. That's how good it is
Josh: This is a mint Wasabi Overdrive
Also Josh: Wasabi Overdrive drop test
I just spent twelve months collecting this set of pedals because I love how they look. Even bought a Danelectro guitar to complete the ensemble. The pedals sound amazing!
Honestly I'm barely starting out with guitars, but your channel has brought my son (and I) a LOAD of entertainment to the point that I will probably be buying a pedal just so he can sing "He has the box!" and actually have the box.
The Friday Night Lights section is my highlight of any of these shows ever. Tremendous
I only started watching this channel a week ago, but already "words iz hard" and "he has the box" have become part of my daily lexicon 😆. Loving these pedal review/mini-documentary things. They're rad!
Also, side note, yep, those paisleys... I worked in a guitar shop, here in the UK, about 20 years ago or so, and I'm pretty sure we sold them. My memory might be playing tricks on me, but I feel like we also sold those Wasabis, but it was a long time ago, so I might be imagining things.
the Stings are fun -- Thank you Sting maker -- you bring the fun 💙
10:57 The wife in the background is what really sells the bit, excellent picture choice.
Addison’s bass lines in this episode are exceptional!
addison is exceptional
@@jhspedalsthats a sweet thing for Addison to say
@@jhspedalsAddison is living up to his hair...I jest. Glad they put him up on the mix.
Nick strikes me as gregarious.
Josh the three of you make a great band. Love the guest star episodes.
Loving the snarl from those p90's. Very versatile pedals, thanks for sharing.
Absolutely go to pedals for me. Nothing they cant do. They make my tele sound like any guitar. I'm glad they are getting the recognition they deserve.
I love this. Thanks for being you Josh. Someone gives you grief for something and you double down and do it more. Love it!
It's his dang show!
Yeah. It’s unedifying seeing people get all salty because someone criticises their output on CZcams. Frankly, if you’re gonna get all weepy because some rando (who probably just had his partner leave him for someone less whiny) criticises you, then really. Why are you producing videos for public review?
The only thing worse is when they go on about how little it matters but the fact they speak about it for 10 minutes straight and you can see the tears in their eyes just gives the lie.
Sorry, wrong side of the bed this morning. I usually try to only ever moan about people in a jokey way.
@@julianmorrisco I feel like the internet has made people lose ability to judge someone's tone. Josh isn't being weepy here, he's poking fun at a dumb complaint through dry humor
I had a Danelctro FAB Overdrive , loved it , made the mistake loaning it to a friend and never got it back . After watching this video it reminded me of just how much I miss that pedal . Now I need therapy.....
The stingers are amazing and add a lot. Great episode!!!
I play catch-up a lot with your presentations and love them more and more. Josh you sense of humor laced with sarcasm is something that has always been normal for me. With your videos, i am educated and entertained at the same time. And the band and their creations are incredible. A few weeks ago I needed a reverb but I am not one for endless options. I just don't enjoy thinking that much so I took a chance on your very affordable JHS Octave -Reverb. What an amazing little pedal where I can have complexity without thinking about it. For our softer songs, it allows me to color and lay a pad underneath the chord at an octave higher or lower depending. Too much to say her, but your knowledge base is amazing. BTW, I completely understood your Bad Monkey presentation as it was laced with your sarcastic humor. The internet being what it is, I was not surprised at the responses. Keep up the great work all of you including those behind the scenes. Oh and for the JHS pedal - I have the box.
That Forward Reverse Delay makes a poor man hungry. Always knew the Dane Electro pedals were underrated and over looked as I've had quite a few sitting next to expensive pedals over the years and got funny looks from not so funny people. What a champion of a man. Thanks for the history and run down.
Their Cool Cat Chorus changed my life. My band was doing the Local H thing, no bassist, and I used the Cool Cat’s stereo outs to split my signal so that I could treat one as the bass and one as guitar and it was absolutely killer. I’m sure the chorus sounded fine too.
love the 50's Cadillac aesthetic down to the light-up tail lights!! they sound great as well!
Loved the Danelectro analog delay / reversed delay… played these for years - absolute inspiring… like an additional instrument
The original Dan-o Backtalk is still the best tape reverse sim
Josh has always been a great player, but damn, I swear he just keeps getting better! Great jam, great vid.
I have the Reverse-Delay (in the box) and used it all over a ton of tracks. Great studio tool.
I love when you have the box! In fact, it should exist a musseum only for boxes.
Banana tuner. That takes me back. First tuner I ever had. No idea where my dad found it, but it came with me to Jr. High in my guitar class. Everyone in the class used it because no one wanted to tune to the piano.
Every time I purchase a pedal that I have been searching for a while and I get with a box. I rejoice and say "I have the box" You rock, Josh👊
Love this format! They are got me into JHS channel long ago. Thanks for bringing it back among soooooooo many shorts
Wow, was not expecting one of these episodes in the classic format on a Monday! So great to see.
Wonderful demonstration. They all have a definite character.
😁
The band sounds f’efing amaze balls! Thank you, thank you for getting the lad’s back together.
That OD pedal was killer.
Very informative an hilarious! Great to hear you guys playing. Thanks.
The last three jams are the best ones yall have done and Belle still looks beautiful even with that catapiler on her lip.
Need to get a color box off yall to show my appreciation of all yalls work over these last few years, yall make me feel like I actually have cool and interesting friends, thanks for that.
I love Decks Dark! It's actually my favorite Radiohead song to play on bass. I can understand why Josh played it over a hundred times, I also can't get enough of it.
"he has the box" is the best thing, every episode I wait for it, but these pedals, man I never seen one! Amazing and I love them!
I totally sing ‘he has the box’ to myself when it seems to apply. Everyone looks at me like I’m crazy and I’m ok with that
That chorus-trem jam was a sound i never knew I needed. That pitch vibrato is perfect.
I just bought the reverse delay and overdrive new old stock for old prices.
I am a lucky and happy man. It's also in the box!
This video has it all!!!
Really great stuff.
Classic episode. Love it !
I have the Danelectro Cool Cat, and it is the best chorus i I’ve ever played in my life, it’s incredible.
Glad your feeling better Josh. Yet again this was another best episode of the JHS Show!
I love, like really LOVE!!! when you say you have the box Josh. Fun fact, I myself have ALL boxes to every pedal I've ever bought. It drives my wife crazy, she asks me "why do you keep all these boxes?" and I simply tell her - I have the box! To which my kids say - "he has the box", which I've taught them to say of course. And you know what, she has no comeback to that other than - "he has the box"...
"Hoisted upon the shelves of pedal history" made me laugh aloud...thank you. The "warrior of time and space" comment was also good. I watch these for the pedals and the jams ('Cheap Strat' is still my favourite one) but the Josh comments are always worthwhile.
Great video as always Josh and team. Would love to see you give your take on Soundlad pedals from Liverpool. Your content has itched my brain and been helped me find focus in the last few years, so really appreciate all you do and will do on the future
I bought my wasabi forward/reverse delay brand new from fairfield music in B'ham uk nearly 20yrs ago & still have it, it got regular use for several years, got some amazing sounds from it, recently I was looking thru boxes of leads & stuff & found it, once again I have it hooked up on my pedalboard, still works just fine, yes times have moved on & there are some amazing ( expensive) pedal these days but there is just something about the danelectro that makes it the only pedal I have bought & not sold on - thanks for doing this video & bringing the attention it deserves to light, I don't have a clue if it has any value these days at all but hopefully it will become a collectors item one day.
Keep brining the Daneletctro content! One of my first guitars was a Dano that I still have. But the pedals were so affordable, I would buy the Dano version before I bought the "real" version. Some of them I even liked better than the real version. To this day, nothing sounds quite like the Grilled Cheese
PLEASE ADD MORE SKITS!!! THAT WAS HILARIOUS ❤❤❤
Im so glad you did more of an old school episodes this week! I love all the content but i miss when friday had an episodes like this every week.
Superb episode, well done you nerds.
Picked the overdrive up a couple of days ago. Pretty impressed with it.
Second to last jam was killer!❤
The backwards forwards delay sounded superb. Actually they all sounded superb.
What a great jam underneath the very inspirational sports talk
These videos are the best.
Thanks Josh Boss & JHS folks.
I always pay close attention and take note of the names to these episodes where you,
Demo, Explain & review.
Lesser known or less popular and usually budget friendly pedals,
Doing this I automatically know which pedals to cross then off of my "pedals I want list"
I eliminate them because the prices will inevitably skyrocket to incredibly stupid level;
That only a guitar player would be goofy enough to pay.
(for something he/she never wanted or needed before you pointed them out)
And so; in Doing these episodes, You & your show,
Saves me the time, Effort & probably disappointment of looking to buy any of these pedals,
There is no Sarcasm intended in my comment. It's a sincere Thanks.
And I love the "He's Got the Box"
Awesome jams 👍. So happy to see Addison on bass. Thanks JHS. I love the Stingers. And I don’t think Rhett Shull could play that slide part.
Loved this episode! I think it would be really cool if you dove into the more doom side of fuzz pedals. Your fuzz episodes are so awesome and there are a lot of cool company’s making some really strange fuzzes aimed towards that market. I couldn’t think of any better channel to rip through them. Awesome episode!
Great episode, boys are finaly back 👍👍👍
🖤🖤🖤
Fantastic pedals! I have 2 of the AO1 OD's which i used as my main gigging OD for years. And yes, I Have The Box...
I discovered Radiohead when Paranoid Android was released as a single when I was 13. And Josh, (or Heath, as I remember you), I met you when you played in your teen band Caliber with my friend (who was the drummer). I was known as the Radiohead geek in high school, and my friend was always telling me, “You gotta meet our singer! He loves Radiohead!” So, I did meet you one time at your practice space, and I remember being floored that you had modded your Nashville Tele to have a kill switch like Jonny Greenwood’s tele! I think I begged you to put a kill switch in my Strat, but you politely declined. That was probably for the best. Anyway, I’m so happy for the success of the only other person I knew who liked Radiohead at that time! Keep up the great work!
Josh, I clicked the like button because you played "He Has The Box". I always like when you say it. I don't know how many times when I look at pedals online I ask myself "Does it have the box"? BTW, the stingers are what makes the show so much fun.
I really like this series of pedals!! They look Awesome!! Definitely cool
🖤🖤🖤
I love these company profile vids. I wish there was one every day!
So many SICK BURNS!
Wasabi Distortion is my favorite . The football lockerroom scene was funny 😅😅😅 . Well done lads !
Probably my favorite bass tone ever on the show ❤
Holy crap! A Blue Paisley! My bandmate used a Blue Paisley for his OD sounds for years. It was an awesome sound, the way he used it. I've tried searching for one with no success. Been super curious to revisit it.
cool man, i used to have a music shop demo board from danelectro with 5 effect pedals permanently attached, i have an Arion chorus at one point also. I sold the whole board to a singer i met, friend of friend, long ago. I never saw the Wasabi line of danelectro though, so this is a bit of a treat, thx :)
Frozen biscuits might be yall’s best work so far. Love it all but man…that one rules fr.
the Wasabi OD is a very versatile, good sounding "matrix" pedal,..
especially with the booster and the mix knob, you can really finetune your tone....very underrated pedal!
hahaha the football coach sketch was top shelf! one of my buddys had a dan echo, such a great delay!
Finally watching this video on my PC instead of my TV so I can actually comment. I bought three Wasabi pedals brand new at Matanuska Music in Wasilla, Alaska. I had the Distortion, Overdrive and the Chorus/Tremolo. They sounded great and I really liked them but they took up too much space on my pedal board and made it weigh a ton so I sold them. I could kick myself now that I'm collecting pedals. They were in mint condition and "I had the box" with all the candy for each pedal. I think I still have the stickers...
Cant wait to see what these go for now
I actually had FAB overdrive to kick around at rehearsal, it was like $25. It was embrassingly good. I actually used it in studio. Eventually sold it due to cool kid pressure to have hipster pedals.
Love the American football coaches acting, proper cheered my day up!😂
We love the box!! 😂😂 still cracking as day one with this
Not only have I seen those I’ve used all of them. They did sound pretty good.
I never seen these pedals in Brazil. They sound absolutely amazing!!
I remember the ads in Guitar World magazine, but unfortunately, I never founded one in the music store 😢. Great video, as always, and you got box and keep mine pedal boxes too 😊
No way - I have a similar thing with radiohead - and when you said "decks dark" I nearly peed with joy. Thanks again Josh.
I just sold a blue paisley pure drive to pay bills. I love Danelectro pedals. Bought a Danecho and was hooked the back talk is my favorite reverse delay. Loved this episode. Football psych-up: get on that field get job one done so I can win a Ford truck
I live in a 720 square foot house and I have the boxes for all my pedals. My lady is super impressed...
Right at 20:50 … the pep talk I didn’t know I needed. PUT ME IN COACH!
Please please please release an album of your jams. They’re so good!!
I'm a fairly new subscriber and while I love hearing your "He has the box" jingle I have managed to not drop a small fortune on FX pedals myself. That's not to say that I haven't pissed away a king's ransom on guitars and amps (I consider them my 401K diversification program) and yes while I would love to win the Danelectro Wasabi pedal suite, I am however petrified of the floodgates that first series of pedals would almost certainly open up for me. For the record, your wall of pedals arranged by color does my OCD so much immeasurable good I just want to thank you for that. Your neighbor from South US 69 or Missouri highway D.
Radiohead is one of my top 3 favorite bands. But man do I struggle with that album. However, Decks Dark is amazing. First experience was Guitar Mag naming Ok Computer guitar album of the year. Sure I had heard Creep but that album changed my life. It led me to explore ambient music in guitar which was so rare back then I decided to do it myself. Still doing it.
The Bends, being in my 20's when it came out. It's a perfect record, no filler, great song after great song.
The store I grew up with carried these, I loved them then and have fond memories of them
Thank you! I was given a Wasabi Distortion pedal about ten years ago by a friend who'd never found a use for it, I'd never really been able to find any information about them at all, barely even a photo. I've also yet to find a decent use for it but it does make some pretty fat beefy tones.
The forward reverse delay is so my fav pedal also it sounds incredible
I had the overdrive for a long time. Sounded great.
Don't know about the pedals but that Dano with the P-90's sounds special...
I was thinking the same thing! I need that guitar!
What model is it?? I can’t find it anywhere.
haha I'm jealous. what an amazing find.
I've been attempting to collect these pedals since 2021, after seeing the Rock-A-Bye on some dude's shelf in a Facebook post. anyway, I have three of them now (the Distortion, Overdrive, and Rock-a-bye) hope to get the other two eventually. wonderful pedals!
I remember seeing ads for them but had no idea how amazing they were. Ahead of their time? I do have the Daddy ‘O
They all sound great
It's great to see Josh again doing the usual kind of JHS videos. This videos are presented more as documented ones, with journalism approach instead of "opinion" videos. Way more interesting.
