If I had to buy a car now with 7-8% interest on financing in the range of $25k-30k, should I buy a new car or a few years old pre-owned one (because of the depreciation logic), as spending $5000 for 2 years worth of drive sounds like profit to me?
We bought at 0% interest

You can… but that’s a lot of work for you - calling the bank every month and doing a lump sum. Better to make a fund for it and do it every 6 months.
When we have sold a vehicle we insist the buyer goes with us to Service Ontario and transfers the ownership to their name. If in the future the vehicle is towed or used in a crime the police will trace the car back based on who the official records list as the owner based on the VIN.

Depends on your overall payment cycle. If it’s weekly, then I am pretty sure the banks may be able to set something up.
