    What do you think about the SwitchBot Curtain 3. Would you use it, or do you think automated curtains are not worth it? Let me know in the comments!

      I'm trying to control the curtain 3 through the light sensor in the solar panel. Do I need a hub for that? Can't find the option anywhere. Also, my firmware ver is 0.7, and the guides say I need 0.9. No fimware notification anywhere.

    I feel the Switchbot Curtain 3 is one of the best, if not the best, retrofit curtain motor on the market as of today. The Curtain 2 had some disadvantages, and I feel Aqara was better than the Curtain 2, but with the Curtain 3 Switchbot have really blown away the competition.
    A lot of people have found the tape around the join in telescopic rods is not necessary as the motors will happily run over must telescopic rods with out it. Obviously this can vary install to install.

    I actually bought 2 from Amazon last week and love them. Several other channels have said they connect to HA via Bluetooth and I've had no luck with this method (several comments on forums about this issue) so I'm glad you said about the hub. Shame it's just more expense... 😢
    Good video and I'm glad you showed the noise they "can" make. My cat hates them 😅😅

      It would be nice to see a video tutorial on getting them to work with HA via bluetooth.

      For Home Assistant, if you pay the Nabu Casa cloud, the best way is to use Alexa. You just need to create virtual switches in HA and expose them to Alexa, then, just create routines in Alexa to trigger the curtain when a switch is activated.

    €180 euro's for one pair of curtains is way too expensive for such a device in my opinion, I am an automation geek myself, but for these kind of cost I'd rather open them myself.

      If you pay yourself 50 cents each time you open and close the curtains, you'll be good in about 2 years 😅

      Switchbot often have sales / discounts, but even at 180, will it be worth it to have a gentle, natural wake up in the morning?
      If we go through all home automation, is even 10 on a smart bulb worth it when you can turn a switch on and off?
      It depends on your use case. For me, 180 would be worth it to have that gentle wakeup in the monring :)

    I wonder if those units are visible from the outside. Between my curtain rail and window top frame there is no small piece of wall so I think the motor unit will be visible. A minus for presence simulation?

      @SmartHomeJunkie Před 8 měsíci

      Yep, they are visible. But imho it won't make a difference. Nobody will know if someone is home or not even when they are visible.

    I bought the first version of the switchbot (u rail). My curtain rail turned out to be to narrow. I see the switchbot 3 u rail version actually has switchable hooks. Do you happen to know what the diameter is of those hooks?

      No sorry, I don't. I only got the rod version.

      I need to pay for my expenses too. (Unfortunately) But, if more people sponsor me, I can decrease these kind of videos. I guess you are not sponsoring me, do you? 😉

      @@RolfVanderGlas That is great to hear! Thank you for your support. I understand your concerns but don't worry. I will keep the balance between tutorials and product reviews. Hope to be able to only create tutorials one day...
