  • This AeroFoam MB-339 from @Banana Hobby is a model I recently received and I'm quite impressed with it! It's a really good size and is available as an EDF or turbine powered model. This is the EDF version which comes with a 105mm EDF pre-installed which flies the model really well. The finish is really nice and the camouflage scheme looks great on the airframe! Full review coming soon! :) #MB339 #MaidenFlight #RCJet

    This chap flew a 6s BH Viper 120 (on Li-ions). It would be great to see more 6s setups on these types of large jets, especially by an experienced pilot like yourself.
    czcams.com/video/z8JusoNRYmY/video.html
    Wemotec has a stock 6s setup for Midi Fan Pro 100, HET 700-75-1750
    There must be a similarly good 6s setup for JetFan Pro 110 which doesn't draw too many amps.
    These setups could work great in these 105mm foamies, and possibly in some balsa and composite models too.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  Před 2 lety +1

      In all honesty, the higher the voltage, the better electrical efficiency you can get for a given power draw (I.e. lower current). And while 6s sounds interesting, at this size my preference really is to run higher voltage to get the current draw down for longer flight times. I do think with a more efficient fan in this, flight times and performance could be notably improved (my opinion).

    • @r00kiepilot
      @r00kiepilot Před 2 lety

      Ah but you reduce the power on 6s so current stays the same as on 12s. 3kW instead of 6kW. But its about how you prefer to fly. I prefer to fly very light with low wing loading. 6s at same current as 12s allows shedding of a lot of weight. If you look at MidiEvo100 1750 6s setup it has one of the highest efficiencies 0.63 compared to their higher voltage setups.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  Před 2 lety +1

      Understood, that will work when the airframe is kept light. Because this one is based on a turbine airframe, the weight is a bit heavier than it could be. I could see this working well with a nice light airframe.

      @r00kiepilot Před 2 lety

      @@Thercgeek If you get round to it please give it a try. Its nice and controversial you will shock many people by showing it flying great on 6s. On rcgroups no one will believe it :)
      I am going to try 6s on a HSD F-16, but with non-scale landing gear to achieve a low weight.
      MB-339 EDF version all-up is 7.2 kg. I estimate by going to 6s and losing some bits (non-braked wheels for example) all up could be 5.4 kg with MidiEvo100 1750 a single SMC 5300mah 6s graphene. Or a Jetfan 110 on 6s may be even better (but I don't know which motor would work). This should fly nice and scale on 6s. In Wojtek's video above he flew the much bigger BH Viper 120 on only 2.6kW 6s at a all up weight of 6.1kg, it flew beautifully. Do check it out when you have time.

      @@Thercgeek Sorry if my comment was rash. I have a tendency to seem rash, or other. Lol.
      I really said that, mainly pertaining to the Really fast planes, especially JETS. Because the Stress on Wings due to speed, causes structural damage, even loss of whole plane sometimes. Also, mounting areas of Retractable landing gear Tare's apart, causing damage, or also loss of plane too.

      No worries at all, I didn’t take it that way. I still stand by the composites statement though even for jets. For weight and strength at sub scale sizes, it’s very hard to beat and aluminum will be heavier and more time consuming to build.

    information. the use of cheaters does NOT make-up for defective internal edf air flow design.!!!
    for any edf thrust system, the MINIMUM Optimal Intake and optimal exit areas are the SAME.!!!
    that value equals, the Effective Swept Areal of the impeller.!!! that value is determined when, the area of the cone/spinner is subtracted from the impeller area. divide that value by pi, to get the diameter of a circle.
    an edf does NOT draw like an engine does.
    consequently, scale air intakes are almost Never large enough (for an edf), and cheaters do NOT work.!
    in order to be effective, edf intake area Needs to be oriented perpendicular to the air flow; and it should not be located where laminar flow is dominant.!
    when the intake/exit areas of an edf-powered model are nominal, energy efficiency is also Nominal; the edf will be quieter and its motor will be stressed less; flight time duration should be increased, a bit. googletranslate
