  • In this episode I FINALLY sort out the cooling system on the 57 Chevy. The fan kicks on and off as it should. It was nice going for a drive and not having people point at the smoke screen. Now that it runs and drives I can figure out all the rattles, squeaks and leaks.

Good job! I had a pinion leak as well. A new seal and no more leaks. 👍

I just bought a 57 Chevy 4 door with same color as yours. I am currently working on getting the 283 running (tune-up, points conversion, cooling install, 2bl carb rebuild). I have not tested the transmission yet. Everything is all factory and numbers matching. I also have a vintage a/c to finish installing. I am thinking of upgrading to 4 bl carb, but not sure. At some point I will do a LS conversion, but that will be many years down the road when my daughter is old enough to work on it with me.

My trans also was foamy and would puke out fluid. Found out there tibia vent on top that was plugged up. Cleaned it out snf all is good.

Nice job, Dan. I love that thermostat fan setup. I believe it's a better way to cool an engine. I saw the video where you drove it, I didn't get a chance to comment, but I enjoyed the ride. Thanks for letting me hang around in your shop again. The 57 is turning out great.

I enjoy your videos! On your horn wiring it should be a ground system just like your fan you really don't want hot wires running through your dash if you don't have to and through your firewall having the power under the hood with a relay and grounding it with a horn button is so much better!
