    Smashing video Eli. Loved seeing Audrey's garden, and the dinosaurs! My garden is my happy place too,, I go out every morning with coffee in hand to see what's coming up. I'll have breakfast out there too weather permitting. Yesterday I was deadheading etc and I was still in my pj's at noon!! Totally lost track of time. My allotment is behind our farmhouse so I take myself off there too and just sit and think. Lots of weeds but lots of veg too. I love it. So nice to see like minded people, a garden to relax in and just take it all in. Thankyou Eli and Audrey for a lovely video!

    Last year I grew my tomatoes outdoors and ate my first on 20/7. They did really well so this year as well as in the polytunnel I stuck a few plants outside. Well, they are toatie and apart from a handful of wee flowers, there is not a lot to show and they are at least 3 feet shorter. The reason I'm saying is because if your outdoor toms don't do as well as you hope try again next year. Its been a proper cold summer in my bit of scotland and i assume in your bit too.

      @eliandkate  Před 2 lety

      Yeah about the sweetcorn, one of the things that maybe isn’t so obvious is that I have absolutely crammed all the growing spaces I can… I don’t have anywhere left without giving up one of the other growing areas. So I just have to decide year on year what’s important for that year 😍

  • @icemage21k
    @icemage21k Před 2 lety +1

    Hi there, got here from Steve. Im from Norway (west coast) similar weather as Scotland i suppose. Last year i had 6 plants of sweet corn, i grew em in pots (3 in a 30L) and they was in the greenhouse until i could spot the male flower, then out they went and i got some nice corn later that summer. Having em indoor while they pollinate turns into a mess anyway, the pollen sticks to everything that grows there. The Greenhouse is usually a bit empty before the tomatoes and melons bulk up and there is room between for a few pots of something early in the season. Doing the same this year , but whit more. Love your vid btw :)

  • @cpoco
    @cpoco Před 2 lety +1

    I've seen some people grow sweet corn in containers (they used container bags I think)... so that might be an option if you wanted to try growing corn... that way you can move them out of the wind while growing then put the pots away when it's all done.

    • @eliandkate
      @eliandkate  Před 2 lety +2

      Yeah there are loads of folk growing in pots, had heaps of folk mention it. The problem for us though is that we genuinely don’t have space, not even for pots… we make the absolute most out of the garden so to add something else means having to replace something.
      Sometimes you you just have to accept it and be happy with what you have…. Not claiming it’s easy but hey ho 😂😂

    • @cpoco
      @cpoco Před 2 lety +1

      @@eliandkate I can totally understand that. I've only just started getting into gardening and already I'm thinking of what I can squeeze in. I "could" certain plants in spaces... but I might not want to in order to grow something else.

    Loved this episode. I live in upstate New York and have weather similar to Michigan. After the holidays, I start thinking about my small raised garden and container garden. I will retire soon and can work on improving my 2 acre lot in the country.
    Lots of inspiration from both gardens. Corn takes a lot of space and plants to yield much produce and may need hand pollination so I do not grow it. I buy from a local farm.
    I lived in Delaware, a state in a more temperate climate and still could not grow a fig tree in the climate controlled,, greenhouse-much to the disappointment of my former husband from Italy. But we grew the best cantaloupe and tomatoes due to the hot, humid weather.
    My job allowed me to work from home half time snd I loved working or relaxing in my garden area the past few years, health and weather permitting.

      Those are just nets to do exactly that, keep the besties off. Loads of folk do this in some form but with mine, after years of frustration I created an actual rigid frame which has hinges. So I can lift it super easily with on hand to get to the veggies.
