Saw Mr. Dave and El Rayo X at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach back in the late 80s and 90s, and that band, with Smitty, was on fire. He also played a lot at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano and seeing them perform in these small clubs was a treat.
Yup, saw them four times, including several club gigs, one in a 90 seat club where the stage was so small David had to stand *on the floor* in front of the low rise stage so that he could play his lap steel! David autographed my copy of this LP at that memorable gig.
It's one of my favorite songs on this album. I love his tasteful simplicity and joyfulness of the guitar solo. In addition to his great arrangements and interpretations of famous songs, he's a damn fine songwriter. & Thanks to "lysergical" for posting HURTS SO BAD, from the same album. Check it out.
When my hubby was hired at a Seattle radio station in 1987, this was one of the first songs he played. Wish I could add it to my Spotify playlist from that era. 😞

Just reissued, like today, along with the El-Rayo EP with the pink cover. I got mine from Amazon.
Back in the 80's I bought the vinyl LP, followed by the cd, direct from Japan. David was kind enough to autograph my LP copy at a gig!
