Brian, thank you for all you advice, I have fly fished over twenty years, taught many disadvantaged kids within a charity. Yet you and Flip have covered topics and method's I now look at differently, all my years and you have improved my fishing by taking away the "British" dogma of how to "do it", thank you both I have "exorcized" my "correct" and embrace your fishing is for ease, success catching fish and fun.

What a great question! I remember being yelled at all through the forest hiking with double hand spey rods out to the Sauk River with my 'date' who had me on the river learning db hand spey with HIS rods. Best personal ad dates I ever had except I was using his HIS rods. I kept thinking, boy, the fish certainly hear us coming! This was how he showed me to secure the rod and the line for marching through the forest and climbing over logs climbing under fences. He was a yeller! He also made beautiful flies that I wanted to wear as earrings. Oh, no, mon Cherie. Here are a pair of Orvis waders and felt boots instead! I'll never forget, "Take three steps" (upstream or was it downstream, arghhhh?) as soon as the cast landed. I was so overwhelmed to be making such a gorgeous cast circling around my head causing a cone of fluorescent green or orange that I'd hesitate which would cause more yelling.

I've done this for years , regards wrapping the leader round the reel and back up to the second stripper . It's so much easier to get going again , or if you see a cruising fish . Keeper rings are indeed useless .

Is there a reason in the windknot tippet example why you wouldn't just cut out the knot/tangle and tie the residual to the butt? How many inches were so mangled they had to be trashed?

    I'm French fly Fisher
I like your video and that you explain tipic us fly Technics.
But I don't know why you use conic leaders
I think leaders with knotts are more smoothies and permits more variations in spécial fly casts curves, plates, pose in packet, zigzag, clutch.
    And you wear nice shirts!!!

I'm glad that Brian doesn't care too much about my fly rod so when I show up with my 1960's Shakespeare Wonderod or Garcia Conlon rod he won't laugh at me. Brian, sorry but after 60 years of fly fishing and 45 years of guiding I still like hook keepers. No, I don't use them all the time BUT they are useful in certain situations and are a "quick fix" for hooking a fly Out-of-the-Way and will keep line and leader much more manageable than hooking to a stripping guide. I don't recommend for extened use especially when your leader is longer than your rod due to kinking. My 2 cents worth.
