- BSL is made up of various handshapes. Please remember that the different handshapes are nothing to do with the alphabet. I have gone through some examples and the signs that use them. Hope it's helpful and thankyou for watching. Mel x

Hi Mel, thank you, the A, B and Y handshape, is asl isn't it, are their similarities between BSL and ASL?
Yes that’s right. ASL and BSL are not really similar, infact ASL has got more similarities with French and Irish Sign Language. BSL is in the same family as New Zealand and Australian sign languages. They share roughly 80%signs and we have the same alphabet.
