  • In this video, I go into detail on how to remove all the plastics to access and remove the fuel tank on my 2015 FJ09. This process will be very similar on the MT09, FZ09 and Tracer 900.

    Excellent video, really well delivered, good filming and clear instructions. I was nervous about removing the plastics as it's easy to snap lugs etc. I am pretty happy now that it shouldn't be a problem. Thanks Calvin!

    Thank you, this is very helpful. I've removed the tank enough to spin it around and set it back on the tail section a few times, while leaving the fuel line connected in order to perform a TBS. Never have I disconnected the sender plug or the fuel line, but I need to now, for brake line replacement. Your vid showed me how those two connections work and give me confidence that I won't have fuel going all over the place.

      Turned out my 2016 uses a different type of connector for the fuel line to the tank. I was able to find another video showing how that connector comes off. Nonetheless, your videos are good.

    Excellent tear down video! I have the exact same model year and color, bought mine last September at 17k miles and it’s at over 22k now. Love the bike, but this video is critical to help you get access to the ECU for a flash, which is potentially the most important mod you can do. I’d also highly recommend retrofitting the slipper/assist clutch from a 2016+ XSR900. Super light lever pull, great for heavy traffic, and no rear wheel locks for gnarly downshifts.

      Thanks for the kind comment! The slipper clutch mod has caught my eye and I’m quite interested 👀 hoping to do that next season.

    I had a fz6 the same colour as the fj09 you just got, and I also got a tracer 900(fj09) the same colour after. I still have my fz6, and I'll never get rid of it cos it's such a nice bike. I've had three tracer/fj09 for 18 months and it's such a great machine. Keep 2 wheel down bruv and enjoy. Looking forward to your new videos.

    I had a new MT09 Tracer (UK, but exactly the same as your FJ09) in red in 2016. Fantastic bike, amazing engine and a brilliant ride. I did however have to have the ECU flashed as it was far too snatchy on the throttle. I dismantled and took all the parts off, thinking at the time how much plastic there was!
    Anyway, several bikes later, I now have a 2009 FZ6 naked S2 (Europe only I believe ?), and find the lack of plastics a lot easier.
    Whilst I love the inline 4, its not as good sounding as the triple 😊.
    I've followed all your Fazer videos and will continue to do so with your FJ 09.
    Good work and regards from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

    Can't wait to see what all you do with the bike.

    Hi Calvin. My name is Des and I've been following you for some time as I was previous owner of FZ6 and now as I'm owner of 2019 Yamaha tracer 900. Do you have any video how to adjust front forks and rear shock absorber, but in most simplest way. I found that my front forks are bit too soft, so I would like to correct that without going to Yamaha dealership. Thanks for previous posts and keep up with good work.👌👍🏍

    Thanks! I also had a red '07 FZ6...a bike that never grew on my like my '17 FJ09 already has.
    Now just don't tell me you've also had a TDM850, that would be spooky.

    Great tutorial Video Man!!!
    One question: do you recommend loosening the tank to pass the cables of the additional spotlights installed under the nose? I have a yamaha tracer 900 gt of 2020
    Thanks for this helpful video

    Thank you for the video!!! Im suspecting there's water in my gas tank. When i throttle, the bike stutters.
    Do u recommend siphoning all the gas out or just remove the tank and drain everything out from the bottom.

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  Před 7 měsíci

      Siphoning would be good to get most the gas out. To get the rest I would disconnect the fuel line and activate the pump into a jerry can. Glad you liked the video! 👍

    Hi Calvin, thanks for sharing this video about the Tracer 900.
    In the month of March this year I traded in my Yamaha FZ6 S2 for a Yamaha MT-09 Tracer because I want to sit more upright. As with the FZ6, the parts of the Tracer 900 are also easy to disassemble. I find the plastic very fragile (side covers) which I carefully remove during disassembly. I am very happy with this bike but there is one thing that irritates me.
    When I start driving and I shift from first gear to second gear I hear a rattling sound. This rattling goes away when I'm in a higher gear but comes back when I'm back in second or first gear. Do you also recognize this problem? Could it be related to the clutch plates?
    I look forward to your answer and next videos about the Yamaha Tracer 900 to learn more. Good day and drive safe.

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  Před rokem +1

      The upright position of the mt and fj is nice! Your sound could be related to the primary driven gear and clutch housing. There is rubber isolators that dampen the force applied to the clutch housing and as they wear out the clutch makes a chunky sound when going on/off the throttle. Have a listen to some clips online about fj09 or fz09 clutch noise. Good luck!
