- Tony nominees, playwright Jez Butterworth and actor Mark Rylance, discuss JERUSALEM, Butterworth's new play in which Rylance plays one of the most outrageous characters ever to cross a Broadway stage. The work also explores the decline of human sensibilities in England's post-industrial age.
Theater Talk is a series devoted to the world of the stage. It began on New York television in 1993 and is co-hosted by Michael Riedel (Broadway columnist for the New York Post) and series producer Susan Haskins.
The program is one of the few independent productions on PBS and now airs weekly on Thirteen/WNET in New York and WGBH in Boston. Now, CUNY TV offers New York City viewers additional opportunities to catch each week's show. (Of course, Theater Talk is no stranger to CUNY TV, since the show is taped here each week before its first airing on Thirteen/WNET.)
The series is produced by Theater Talk Productions, a not-for-profit corporation and is funded by contributions from private foundations and individuals, as well as The New York State Council on the Arts.

I managed to see Sir Mark Rylance last Sunday in Jerusalem. I can honestly say I have never seen anything like it. His performance was beyond words, particularly the last act. A week later I am still lost for words. Greatest actor of all time.
I watched him in Jerusalem two months ago and I still can't stop thinking about his performance. His performance was not human!!!
Saw it today. last performance of current run.
@@marlonblade007 What did you think?
@@markhigh6271 Great. Clearly I was surrounded people who'd seen it many times. Jez Butterworth was there as well as it was the last show of the run. Rylance said it'd be back.
@@marlonblade007 Do you have any footage of Mark's speech at the end? I heard it was very emotional. I would love to see it if you do!
The difference between artists and idiots is a thin one, but the difference is on evident display here. My God, those "critics" are tools.
Gorgeous Mr R.
Hilarious, they bleeped Rooster saying "arse" but not cunts
As an American, I found the first act completely incomprehensible. I'm very glad I came back after the intermission. Once the plot kicked in, the play was wonderful.
superb - needs to be much more widely seen
the divide between british and american is pretty clear here.
Rylance is bloody saint mate. Blake
Lives!
i like that mark has a drum dangling from his ear...
The best Actor in the world!
thanks for sharing this :)
I love Mark's comment about doctors being drug dealers of a different sort. Wise man. So full of life. Runs rings around the so-called 'intellectuals' in our midst!
well done micky doo finnaly a play about you,at last pmsl xx love you always mickyx
They bleep the word "arse" but not "cunt"? Hilarious
Brilliant 🏆 😂
A stunning performance.
I may be wrong, but my understanding is that the 'dark satanic mills' Blake was referring to were actually churches.
OMG you're right! Well spotted.
Does anyone know if there's a way to watch Jerusalem other than through National Video Archive of Performance?
Smartest Actor Ever!
I thought the same thing aha@Shazbut01
Interesting. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you have received some sort of an education where you will have had to learn by studying intensely the novels/poems/plays of selected artists. So, my question is, if all the artists you learnt from are 'idiots', where on earth does that lead you?
Sciencephobia again 😞Nostalgia for bloody rituals, sympathy to drugs and violence - ok, it was tolerable, but not blaming science...
