- In December 2014 ISIS militants managed to completely surround the town of Sinjar in Iraq. The Yezedi Kurdish residents of the mountain town, which lies about 50km from the Syrian border, are trapped. But they are not beaten.
The resistance force here is made up fighters from many countries and religious groups; all united amongst their common enemy. Fighting alongside each other are Kurds from Syria and Turkey, Christians and Muslims and even an American who contacted them through Facebook. Unusually for such a conservative part of the world there are also women who have enlisted and who fight as fiercely as any of their male colleagues.

I protected those people in the sinjar mountains for a full year when I was with 3rd LAR 1 marine division. I’m happy they all didn’t get exterminated.
This is the first time I have heard about Yazidi resistance to ISIS aggression.
isis slaughtered alot of them.took many women and children.it was horrible.they fled on this mountain and almost got overrun and killed all.think they flew with helicopters in and helped them with food and all.it was all on the news.

There are no Kurds in Sinjar it's 100% Yezedi! Sinjar is thier holy site and it is the only place in all of Iraq they have. I served with Yezedi in Northern Iraq in Mosul. The entire world turned a blind eye as 100,000 of them was wiped of the earth by Daesh don't never give the respect of calling them ISIS! Yezedi where almost wiped from the face of the earth and the woman children were used as sex slaves. There was so many dead Yezedi in the Tigris the Daesh used as a bridge.

They said in this video that Curtis soldiers retreated to the mountain. This is an untrue statement all Kurdish Muslims left in the middle of the night. The army left, leaving equipment for Isis to take so they could enslave the Yazidi people. Yazidi are not and do not identify as Kurdish for reasons such as this. The Kurdish Islamic party actually assisted Isis in taking Yazidi women as slaves. This is a fact. The Kurdish Peshmerga stayed at a distance and did not fight ISIS for over a year while Yazidi starved. The world said and did nothing.
