    I know you don't usually do these kinds of videos and I appreciate your reasoning for that. It is nice to see you talk about what it is about the specific media that you really love, the qualities that make the difference for you. I don't have a budget for supplies right now, but I do have plenty to play with at the moment. I am excited to try a few of these goodies when I can splurge a bit and having a source I trust, that considers qualities I am also interested in, will help make those purchases more confident when the budget is there. TFS ❤

    I am HAPPY to see you are back! I have been following you since 2014 (under another username) and I loooove your videos, your teachings and the fact that you are always true to yourself.
    Having said that, and as much as I love your videos, your health is way more important than them!
    Keep them long or short, it doesn't matter as long as they keep coming for a long long time still.
    Take care!

    I love my small collection of Posca pens. I find the white so handy. The conte pastel pencils sound interesting. I'll be looking out for them. I've recently discovered pastel mat paper and I've tried some Derwent pastel pencils on a little bit but I haven't got too many colours.
    This was interesting!

    Glad you shared about the preciousness of supplies! A lot of other artists advocate for buying the best supplies you can afford but I do still feel the struggle of preciousness and creating for the sake of creating that’s actually stopping me from art journaling as much as I would want to. It’s a nice reminder that ‘cheaper’ art supplies also have their purposes. One new thing I discovered recently is aqua shimmer from Brutus Monroe. I splurged on their whole Wizard of Oz colour collection and had a blast messing around and creating shimmery backgrounds. I think they’re liquid watercolours but with lots of mica and there’s a lot of different ones in the range if you want to check them out. Miss having you here!

      @jennibellie  Před 2 měsíci

      I've been too tempted by shimmery watercolors lately, especially some handmade sets on Etsy, but I already have like 4-5 full sets so gonna have to keep those on the wish list for now.

    Enjoying this. And thank you, thank you, thank you for bringing up the fact that white posca pens are not as opaque. I have the same thing with yellow. I seriously only have like, 5 or 6 pens and I hardly use them, but I appreciate you bringing that up (most of my supplies was given to me, but the poscas I bought myself). I was talking to friend about that as well and she has the same issue, but what we have seen on YT looks opaque, so it's frustrating.
    Anyway, back to the video! :)

      The smaller sized nib (0.7mm - PC-1MR) I do find covers better than the later white Posca nibs, and also make sure you're using the true white not ivory shade as I find that one more watery too ❤

    Jennibellie I've been loving watercolor lately. I started painting with a $5 buck set of watercolors from a dollar store! I still keep to your suggestion to just use what you have! I also love Posca pens to do mark making over watercolor. I love your arrangement of your supplies.

      Posca pens to do mark making over watercolor I'm doing a lot lately too - the July Monthly Challenge even has some of that. Yh def using what you have, I am taking my own advice now and stopping the splurging a bit lol

    interesting. Monte Marte is a brand which is easily obtainable here in Brisbane and because of that I often wonder where it stands in quality. Thanks for that. I have tried this year Artex Simptap acrylic markers and just love them. I use them often. It is so much easier than using tubes of paint for small areas or even not so small areas. The working end is a brush and you push the top end to release the paint which you can see come into the brush area because of a clear area above the brush. This means the 'nibs' aren't there to get ruined by pushing too hard to get the colour. Colours are vivid and dry quicklyand I like the way the brush spreads the paint.

    I haven't purchased much in the way of NEW (to me) supplies this year. My focus has been more on restocking depleted materials. That said, I have rediscovered some old favorites.
    First is Acrylic Inks. I am especially fond of Amsterdam (Royal Talens) and Daler-Rowney. But backordered colours led me to try the Vallejo line, and I love them so far. They have a high pigment load and very little colour shift.
    Second is Korns lithography crayons. I know it's only black, but hear me out. These small Conté Crayon like sticks range from Very Soft (#00) to Very Hard (#5), and besides being sensitive drawing tools, they can work as a resist for watermedia and gel plate printing.
    Third, Mitsubishi Polycolor coloured pencils. I haven't done much with this media since Spectracolor was discontinued about 25 yrs ago. These are softer and a little smoother than Prismacolor.

    My favourite is my little Derwent spray bottle. I only use it with water, but that is so useful. I also use this for dampening marzipan or icing when I am applying the next layer on cakes!

    Something I am really struggling to understand, why draw an entire artwork if you want to gesso all over it? (Constructive question as a fellow artist)

    • @jennibellie
      @jennibellie  Před měsícem +1

      In that particular case for couple of reasons - 1, I was just using it as a warm up and 2, thats my daily journal so I get to write over the texture and get crinkly pages (I love the feel of crinkly pages). You get to see all the hints of colours and shapes underneath so it just makes it more interesting than writing on normal paper. In other cases I dunno you'd have to ask other artists, I imagine it mainly get used to cover up paintings when they don't like the results though honestly 😄
