    Very informative Gary. Thanks.
    I often think apple is losing track of its supporters over the last few upgrades. A big emphasis on wallpapers and screen savers. I haven’t used a screen saver since I moved from Windows 20 years ago. I have used a laptop for the last 15 years. - so just close the lid when not using. Same with my iPad. The Apple TV stays on until it closes ( after 10 minutes I think) but I never sit around watching the screen saver. The last two updates seem to emphasis these features rather than other more important features. I think most users would prefer an emphasis on updates to Pages, Notes or security features. They are there - but overshadowed by the “ gimmicky” features. I’ll upgrade but I don’t think there is a lot here for me personally.

    Thanks for the video this was actually useful to me, i forgot that in Sonoma about turning safari web pages into apps on doc, so much nicer and faster than opening safari and then looking for the website via a icon or going through favorites. I would imagine only the top 5 or less sites would be ideal unless you like a cluttered dock LOL

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 6 měsíci

      Note that if your goal is just to get to that website quickly, then a bookmark file in the Dock is what you want. A Safari Web App will isolate the site in a separate profile-like app. See czcams.com/video/sH4T-Zf79eQ/video.html

    How stable is macOS Sonoma? I heard lots of issues with the initial release. I don’t want to update until I’m sure that the version is stable. For example, I had so many issues with iOS 17 at the beginning. I think all the issues if not most are resolved with the latest update iOS 17.0.3. I was wondering if they have sent any bug fixes to Sonoma yet.

    not sure if related or not, but capslock on macbook pro m1 started malfunctioning after updating to sonoma. along with ios 17 notification sound tritone stopped playing on 13 pro max. and there has been a weird feature regarding caps lock. caps lock can be turned on with the keyboard, but in order to disable caps lock it needs to be done by clicking the shift icon that appears on screen. not sure for others, but its working like this on my macbook M1 pro.

    Awesome Info (as always). One question that comes to mind: Regarding the Facetime Update; will the new capabilities require the participants of one's Facetime session to be on upgraded versions or their respective OS (MacOS, iOS, iPadOS), or does it simply work across video/audio protocols within those participant's existing platforms? (I currently use an ATEM switcher to mimic those capabilities, but I’m excited to simplify the workflow. Unrelated: As a kid in the late 60’s, I had taken in a homeless stray who had lost his right eye due to an injury - Patch turned out to be the friendliest neighborhood dog on the planet (got along with everybody - four legs or two, one cat with three!)

    As usual, a very informative tutorial.
    After installing the Sonoma it seems that my iMac became much slower though.
    A quick online research blames it (of course) on the higher demand of resources.
    On turn on it takes much longer to reboot and generally the machine reaction is much slower.
    Any suggestions are welcome.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Keep in mind that right after an upgrade it has to reindex files and perform other background tasks. It should be as fast as Ventura, maybe a bit faster, maybe a bit slower. Though check to make sure you aren't simply running low on internal storage.

    Hey, I am new to Mac, used to be a long time with windows. Everyone talks about Sonoma, as a new Mac user, how do I do upgrade my MacBook Pro M2? What do I need to do first before upgrading, what do I need to do If my apps and plugins do crash, or is Sonoma running plugins like I have in Ventura? When is the support for Ventura ending. I am new I have a hard time to find everything I need to know.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 8 měsíci +1

      System Settings, General, Software Update. Assuming you are already backing up, there's nothing you need to do except set aside an hour or two for it to update. If you have critical apps or plugins then you can always check with those software developers and ask if they are Sonoma-ready. But for the most part what works in Ventura should work in Sonoma. As for when Ventura support ends it depends on what you mean by "support." You can keep using it forever, but Apple typically only supplies security updates for 1-2 years.

    The only one of those ten that really interests me is the form filling in Preview but even then I'd be more excited by the ability to create PDF forms in Preview. I have a 2019 iMac 27 and a 2016 macbook pro so it looks like I won't be upgrading anyway. I'm becoming far less loyal to the Apple ecosystem sadly.

    The main missing features we've waited decades for are the ability to just simply flip the video left to right and also to select a single screen or single window to share when Facetiming. It's also puzzling that Safari and Preview are so tied to the OS that you can't simply update them without the entire system update.

    Gary does an excellent job as always as presenting Apple's 'updates' in a logical and clear fashion. As for Apple, well they seem to be mostly messing around and tinkering with mostly cosmetic changes and with the exception of a few handy things, are hardly what anyone would call ground-breaking useful features. For most of the world that is bilingual +, the automatic word prediction thing is the first thing to get switched off if the two + languages you use on a daily basis use the same writing system (e.g. Latin script). Apple (and Meta, X, Microsoft et al) still can't get their Silicon Valley numbskulls out of said valley and understand that they need to create a system that can handle two or more languages at once. I'm not talking about simply changing the keyboard, but having a true multilingual OS that automatically detect in which language you are typing/speaking (dictation).

      Apple is so annoying releasing these useless OS versions every second. I’m a music dude and Apple garbage os updates keep requiring music equipment manufacturers to keep up and sometimes it becomes obsolete. Some of the useless updates Apple did on my iPhone crashed my phone and some of my photos and videos got erased forever!! APPLE, STOP IT!!! 😡… or I will switch back to windows and tell my music buddies too.
