    lived in Adelaide for 50 years and never heard of any rips at any city beach, only issue is occasional seaweed build up on northern beaches. Be careful picking up any container in the water, could be the home to a blue ring octopus and if there is a small airplane circling above you get out of the water, it is the shark watch plane keeping you safe.

    Correction: The temperatures in fact can go above 40 degrees, it was 48 degrees in 2019.

    What is not mentioned here is that some Adelaide metropolitan beaches have dangerous rips. Christies beach is one of these. If there are surf lifesavers present, then there are rips present. However, Maslins beach has no rips and gentle surf, so is safe even for small children. It’s also the most spectacular and beautiful beach in South Australia. There are some very “touristy” areas like Glenelg which is promoted as being “the most popular.” That’s only because of an abundance of cafes and restaurants nearby. Maslins beach is the opposite. It is away from the crowds and is superb in its isolation. The cliffs are amazing.
