Very well explained. The most easy tutorial you can find for saving data using firebase. I was stuck watching different tutorials and all other people were using Firebase class but it was not working well in my android studio. But this guy used DatabaseReference class and I used the same and now I am done. Thumps up. Appreciated.

Thanks for the excellent tutorial, step-by-step and straight to the point. If you're stuck, check out some fundamentals below you might have missed out if you're a newbie like me (:
1) IMPORT PACKAGES/STUFF at the top of your MainActivity.java e.g. widgets (import android.widget.Button), Firebase stuff (import com.google.firebase.database.DatabaseReference), TextUtils (import android.text.TextUtils)
2) ! means "not"
i.e. if(!TextUtils.isEmpty(name)) means if there is no name written

if anyone is having trouble getting something to show in the database it is because the statements in the if else statement might be switched (they were in mine). So if(Text.Utils.isEmpty(artist)){Toast.....} else {String id, Artist, database fields}...make sure your 'artist added' toast is showing up when you add the artist.
