  • Pushing around 8" of fresh snow with the Foreman 450 ES. Plow is a Moose 60" with UHMW wear bar to protect concrete drive. Amazing how much power the Foreman has!

    Looks like fun. I did that for a few winters too, but after freezing my butt off so many times, it got old after a while. I decided to make the same thing, only bigger (7'8" blade) and heavier duty, and mounted it on my 1/2 ton pickup. Now I'm toasty warm and playing in the snow in style!! I used almost the same dimensions, and lift it with a 3500 lb. winch. My frame is pretty much the same, but with thicker steel and more bracing on the back of the blade. I still have manual angle, so I have to get out to angle the blade, but that only takes a few seconds and I'm back at it, but now I stay warm and push a hell of a lot more snow!

      That’s pretty cool! Never seen a truck with an ATV style plow mount. Great idea! Thanks for the comments

      The only problem with the single receiver mount is the fact that is weak and could break the weld or bend the steel (mine has done both) I had to add two lengths of square stock to each end of the plow bracket, that pushes on the sides of the receiver hitch, so it can't bend the 2" receiver mount now. Now I can slam a frozen bank of snow without bending anything. Along with using plow shoes and trip springs to allow the blade to trip when it hits frozen humps, it saves the frame from all the jarring. I've also noticed since I installed a rubber cutting edge (bolted in front of the steel blade, 1" lower) It also helps to prevent scalping on my lawn and scrapes the concrete off like a squeegee. It's forgiving too and rolls over the driveway surface easier.

    Why do you plow with your Forman when you have a tractor?
    Because it's more fun?
    Is it faster?
    I'm considering one vs my garden tractor. I bet it's more fun than my tractor... 😉

    • @ProjectKing
      @ProjectKing  Před 5 lety +3

      It’s faster and easier to maneuver than a tractor. A 500 cc size ATV with 4wd can push amazingly hard. I think a ATV is much better for plowing VS a garden tractor.

    • @ProjectKing
      @ProjectKing  Před rokem

      I’m not sure. I think it would work fairly well if you have good tires with plenty of knobbies for snow. It will certainly plow going down hill!! Lol

  • @donabele1243
    @donabele1243 Před 5 lety +5

    You're taking too big a bite with that blade...which is why you have to go back and clean it back up. Use about 50-60% of the width of the blade for the passes and you won't have snow rolling off the inboard side.

    • @ProjectKing
      @ProjectKing  Před 5 lety

      Go big or go home! Lol!! Thank you for the tips. I’ll adjust technique next time

    • @donabele1243
      @donabele1243 Před 5 lety +1

      @@ProjectKing "Go big or go home" Love it!!! I run a 10 foot blade on my dually! Now that's big!!! Over 20 years of plowing with just about everything. Just takes experience (which hopefully you have - since this video is 3 years old!). Today you see a lot of 'box blades' or 'wings' on the sides of blades to help stop spill-over. But you'll never be able to use the full width of any blade without some spill over. Hence, smaller bites.
      Be well,
      Don

  • @iispyuu
    @iispyuu Před 9 lety +1

    I have 2001 Honda rubicon 500 , was little concerned about pushing snow with 60 inch plow , or if winging snow to side if the weight would want to push fourwheeler sideways ! Some say def go for 60 and others say 54 inch !
    60 works no problem ?

    • @ProjectKing
      @ProjectKing  Před 9 lety

      Yes 60" will work. But remember that if the snow gets deeper than 8" or if it freezes solid.... The ATV will not plow it. Just not enough weight. I use a tractor for that.
      The 60" is nice because when it's angle the snow still doesn't touch the tires. I'm not sure on a 54". A 56" plow would probably be ideal for 450 size Honda Foremans. Thanks for the comments!

    • @artsmith103
      @artsmith103 Před 6 lety

      Unfortunately mine came with 48". Adequate but a little small. 55" would be perfect. The 450 is really a 432cc. The 500 will easily push 60" but unless you have a lot to plow, I would pick 55". 2 passes will open anything up and if you do 4 passes 55" is more than enough. Save a little with 55" and buy some v-bar chains if you're off pavement.

      +craigslistrr O Yes I really like it. The suspension is a little stiff when not loaded. But I think the new ones have very smooth suspension. I like my old 450 because it's air cooled and very reliable. I have heard stories of them having over 40,000 miles on them form forest service duty. Mine has 1200 miles on it so it has plenty of life left! Lol.

    • @ProjectKing

      +J Duggie I have no experience with Artic Cat. If the atv has a low range it should be okay. The plow may stress the cvt belt so a small plow would be better. 50" max. This is all my opinion however!
