I really love this scene where Goku understands what Vegeta is going through, and now he may have wished for Nappa and Raditz to see the terrible truth about their planet being destroyed by Frieza.

I much prefer the FUNi dub to the original japanese. In the original japanese, Goku is just a simple hillbilly who likes to fight. But with FUNi, he became a Superman-type character who goes from naïve and blank to good and heroic due to those around him.
This scene for whatever reason was always a tearjerker for me. Even watching it again all these years later. Goku knew that Vegeta who was dying from his battle with Frieza, wasn't a monster. He had no choice and he understood this fully after Vegeta revealed his past as well as the Saiyan race being forced to do Frieza's bidding for years or face death and still getting obliterated simply because this tyrant was amused by it. This, the scene before with Vegeta pleading Goku to defeat Frieza as he died and in literal tears, when Goku finally wakes up after beating the heart virus and embracing with Chi-Chi, and when Goku returns at the World Martial Arts Tournament and meets Goten for the first time are the most emotional instances in the whole DBZ series for me.
Agreed. Another underrated moment with vegetas passing for me was that quick instance where goku used what I have to assume was some kind of telekinesis to create the hole in the ground to burry vegeta with using his eyes. It showed me a kind of controlled outrage goku had as well as a small display that he peaked more or less in his base form. You didn’t know what was gonna happen but you knew goku was at a point to legit box a tyrant. I even wonder whether or not that made freeza observe him out of necessity haha
Goku’s ability to see the good in people is beautiful. It’s true in real life, some people can change if you give them enough love and forgiveness
