"But what you have to take into account is that-- shut up."
I won't lie, that cracked me up. XD
I rewind the video just so I can re-listen to this~
You have to take into account that Terrence is only a Ravenclaw... loving to learn & study does not make you creative, it makes you an accountant or librarian ;-)
@@Rikrobat feel ya, just came to comment that I rewinded it🤣
Same here my dude.
Me too!
“You know what... [CRASH] ...he just left.”
Scott bailing out a window to avoid his problems is something that is annoyingly understandable for me. For real if I had the athletic ability for it I wouldn't hesitate to literally run from my problems.
also Scott's initial portrayal in a nutshell: finding direct ways to avoid andignore his problems rather than face them directly and own up to things.
I was a little disappointed that that joke was movie only
It was also hilarious, I was rolling when I first saw this movie and that happened
@@LeopoldLitchensteinthe line delivery of "you know what?" *smash* "he just left."
Was very good.
My favorite part of the joke of it is that his roommate is perfectly opening the door so knives would be able see him do it and then had th audacity to say "No, I haven't seen him" 😂😂 fuxking beautiful
Seeing how Chris Evans turned out, it is kind of funny watching him in Scott Pilgrim in hindsight.
Yeah, it's amazing how he can go from playing someone so full of himself it's hilarious, to a character so noble and honest that he's a grail quest away from being a knight in shining armor. Dude's got range.
Check him out in Snowpiercer if you haven't.
The man is an acting machine.
Yessss, but if you watch Snowpiecer, you might want to do it after getting Captain America out of your system. That shit is _bleak._
Bleak... sort of. This could be such a great movie if it was actually made by Terry Gilliam and not for fans of Terry Gilliam.
prince apoopoo oh wow, it’s been like ages since I watched this
I’m here for the Wallace appreciation. He’s amazing.
That rolled "r" in Ramona is very appealing, Dom. Nice touch.
I’m glad someone else noticed how amazing a friend Wallace was in both versions. Like holy shit that dude is both the most caring and also has the most idgaf attitude I’ve ever seen. Everyone should strive to be Wallace or find a friend like Wallace
The Dom it's good that you can realise that connection to Scott is a bad thing but don't beat your self up over it. That's what fifty shades of grey is for.
best battle ever....
Scott Pilgrim Vs The World VS Scott Pilgrim VS The World.
It's an endless cycle.
So would the Scott Pilgrims team up to face the Worlds in this scenario?
Well, all of the books were used, exept Scott Pilgrilm's Finest Hour, which was being made during the films development
Scott Pilgrim vs *ZA WARUDO*
The Dom is almost an ASMR channel now.
ajzeg01 thought the same.
Now i need the Dom to put together an hour-long video of just him quietly talking about books to fall asleep to.
i was thinking "what's with his tone?"
He’s been having health issues and needs to take it easy on his voice.
it absolutely is.
“Are people in Canada actually like this”
-my brother
Depends on the person, actually. Like Americans, I suppose.
no
The flashback at the beginning of the volume was adapted into an animated short called "Scott Pilgrim vs. The Animation" That aired on Adult Swim before the movie came out and I believe it is on the Bluray and DVD. It's pretty cool!
Bit of Bonus info, there is an animated short called Scott Pilgrim Vs The Animation which I think is meant to tie into the film as the character are voiced by the actors who played them in the film, which covers the flashback section at the start of this Book where Scott meets Lisa and "saves" and dates Kim. However as it is not part of the film I understand completely why The Dom left it out.
It was a cool video though. Too bad they didn't make it a trailer to the movie (like Pixar has those animated shorts before their theatrical movies)
Yeah, it aired on [Adult Swim] a bit before the film came out and had an ad for the film at the very end. You can find it on CZcams.
Soft intro Dom pushes a lot of good buttons.
I was just going down to post that. I dunno, somthing about it is just.... soothing.
Such niceness! Agreed
Your name is hyper potion but your profile picture is that of a normal potion. This upsets me for some reason
I can appreciate it but there's just something more compelling to me about seemingly-more-enthusiastic-by-being-loud THE Dom that I find more engaging. I like soft Dom but I love loud Dom. If that makes sense?
Corey Carnes The reason he is not that loud is medical.
I have had this one memory from when I was a kid of a dude getting thrown into a castle that I could never place. I must have seen it in a commercial when I was in elementary school and I always thought it was part of some musical. Then I watched Scott Pilgrim one day and I was like "oh that's were that's from".
You know, due to Envy's name, I had this theory that each of the Exes where representative of one of the seaven sins. Considering Todds name is an inversion of the origin of Scott's, and he's bigger stronger and better at bass, I feel like the idea of him representing envy makes sense, but I never COULD fit the others. Gideon is greed I believe.
Roxy's definitely Lust.
@@ginge641 is she? I'd say wrath more than anything she's the most outwardly agressive. I feel like you're only saying less because of the gag way if she dies in the movie and / or the fact that she's gay
@@Nagasakevideo She's described as being just someone Romano experimented with sexually and yeah, the way she dies is via sexual stimulation and literal death by orgasm. Ngl tho, she is the most outwardly angry of the exes except maybe Patel.
As an older fan, I wouldn't feel too bad about previously relating to Scott. In general, Western society has really slowed down maturity most people in the late teens/early 20's aren't nearly as grown up as they think they are. That's who Scott is and his growth out of that self centered mindset is part of the story.
Totally feel your point! But I'd actually argue he's got an even better reason not to fear his relation to Scott. So coincidence of coincidences, I personally fell in lesbians with this story because I related to Scott completely. I saw the movie during it's theatrical run in a time where: It was just before my 23d birthday, I was currently dealing with the break up of my longtime (years and years) girlfriend *The Big One*, and I had just the night before, gotten into a nasty altercation with the ex of the cute girl in logistics (deliveries of all things!) at work I had gotten close to during my "Summer of Angst." Looking back, I hate to even entertain the idea I acted anything like the oddly lovable, but tragically selfish Pilgrim, /but/ I've come to realize Scott represents / personifies our base instincts in relationships and adulthood. Everyone can relate to Scott because everyone can remember times that, at least for a second, their best plan was to get theirs, get out, and find someone cute and easy to coast along with. I mean hell, Paradise Lost got us to relate to the plights of Satan!
@@delunamelbourne6781 Yeah, although I don't think Milton wanted you to think that relating to Satan in Paradise Lost was a good thing. Kind of like a less obvious version of Scott.
"Nearby castle," I love the casually you bring that up with when Casa Loma's existence and placement is so weird.
One of the things I’m constantly thrown by during every reread is how complex and fleshed out each character is. My first couple times through, I saw Knives as a little girl with an annoying crush, but after I had a toxic relationship with an older woman, I saw the strength of Knives as a trauma survivor as she had her own sidestory of coming-of-age in the background. And in undergrad, I actually wrote a paper about the thematic importance of Lisa as Ramona’s foil (though that’s not until volume 4).
Man it's just fun hearing Scott Pilgrim recounted in your voice.
Yeah, I'm really starting to see the loss in content to fit the film as this is going on. A sad part about adapting a longer work into a movie. Eventually something has to be cut or the pacing gets insane.
Would have worked better as a 6 episode mini series about 30-45 minutes for each book. there isn't a great mid way point to split it into 2 movies and thankfully they didn't because they never would have made the second with that box office.
@@neisan92 , luckily this was a couple of years before Harry Potter made it fashionable to split the last installment of any adaptation into two.
"What you have to take into account is, "shut up'" has been making me laugh since 1984
I know I've said it before, but I love your soft voice. Also, yes, everyone needs a Wallace in their lives
After your greeting I feel like a beautiful, sexy watcher :)
kousetsuhana (opens my water bottle bag and throws one at you) I heard you where thirsty
Hey, i'm like number "answer to the life, universe and everything"
Wallace is like my FAVE character in Scott Pilgrim. He's kinda scummy but in a more endearing way, he's laid back, funny and seems to be one of the saner characters and is the only character without ANY real issues. Even Young Neil, minorest of minor characters, has huge hangups with his minor character status!
also if I remember right Scott seemingly wasn't too pleased with Lucas just not wanting to fight and for some reason actually wants to beat the guy because...pride? or something? either way yeah another example of Scott being a douchebag. And again, the comic shows that Ramona is NOT a good person with how she treats lucas (she dumped Matthew Patel after a brief fling, and then cheated on Lucas and then acts really callously towards him)
What are Young Neil's issues?
He gets really upset about being sidelined in the later volumes. As in he starts sitting in his room with the lights turned off and smoking upset.
yeah as I said, Young Neil has a complex about being a minor character and people seemingly disrespecting him by calling him 'young neil' all the time. hell, knives dates him just to get scott jealous! a late book joke is that young neil's happiest moment is when someone just calls him 'neil'
Also, the flashbacks from the beginning of the volume actually got adapted into an animated short that aired on Adult Swim.
The fighting an army and a miniboss thing did get a chuckle out of me after I had read the comics.
Your voice tone in the start of the video sounded great. Almost like ASMR.
Kind of feels like the movie made knives more crazy so Scott seems like less of a bad guy for breaking her heart.
Dom, I think you forgot from the first video that the Exes don't actually die, they wake up back at home
He did mention that
You actually pointing out how garbage youtube is is a MUCH better reminder to like the video than when youtubers just mention it in their outros
"Rrrrrrrramona"
I know that you're trying to speak softer but that cracked me up XD
Also that smooth buttery voice thing you're doing is awesome! Keep it up you handsome fella!!
Im so glad someone is finally taking a look at the comic series and the movie as a whole. Tbh i actually like the comics more, only because the story was slightly more in-depth than the film but to each medium's, it's own.
Part of me wants to go bust out my set of the series and reread it, it's been a few years.
I'm just remembering how good and much I liked it when I see the panels.
Is it weird that I find Soft Dom Voice very soothing?
I never realized how deep and kinda gravelly the Dom' s voice is its rather pleasing to listen to. Also still so happy one of my fave movies is getting this much time dedicated to it.
I was a little surprised that you'd ask if non-Blockbuster Video stores is a "Canadian thing". I thought that independent, non-chain video stores were a thing throughout the western world (at least, until the home rental market crashed). But yes, in Canada, and USA, these places were once pretty common, with Blockbuster driving many out of business. The No-Account Video seen in Scott Pilgrim is supposedly based on Suspect Video, a store in Toronto; although back when I read the comic, I originally assumed it was inspired by Queen Video, another video store in roughly the same neighborhood as Suspect Video. Apparently, both places went out of business in 2016.
the flashback of scott and kim in high school was adapted as an animated short called Scott Pilgrim vs. the animation that aired on adult swim and had michael cera and allison pill reprise their roles with other actors from the film playing the other characters
I like how in the comic Knives seems to want to get revenge on Ramona instead of trying to look like her to get Scott back.
I haven't ever actually read the comics besides snippets of it here and there even though I was really obsessed with the movie. I'm surprised that it stayed this consistent for so long honestly
The characters don’t die, they just respawn at their houses.
Please change it to the Pilgramage
No!
You forgot to take "Shut up" into account...
Please! You know it's better!
@@Dominic-Noble Then change it to the Shut Up!
Shut up. Did you not hear The Dom?
I love how Chris Evans just loves being in comic book movies. Maybe a The Losers reviews??
Can't wait for the next stop on the Pilgramage!
20 seconds in and I'm already laughing, this'll be fun.
Great video Mr. The Dom! I'd really like it if you did an adaptation video comparing the novel and film adaptations of Fight Club c:
Scott doesn’t need to tell Wallace about the Patel fight because Wallace was right there, watching it.
I don’t know if this was brought up in later vids, but while the flashback wasn’t in the film, it was adapted into a short animation that aired on Adult Swim around the time of the film’s, with Michael Cera and Alison Pill reprising as Scott and Kim, and Mae Whitman(Roxy in the film) played Lisa Miller.
I've never seen the movie or read the books, but I can't say no to more of The Dom!
Nothing to say... just wanted to do his part by putting something in the comments section. YAY I HELPED!
Henri Deveroux thank you!
Helping is important
As I said in the previous film, I am happy to see this get reviewed a lot sooner than I thought it would when I suggested it back at ConBravo back in July. So this is awesome!
'No Account' video was inspired by the local video store Suspect Video, one of many casualties when Mirvish village was gutted earlier last year.
Seems a little odd that you say "And he still broke up with Knives anyway" twice, referring to it being after her love confession, thus implying that her confession should have changed his mind. Wouldn't it have been even worse to continue leading her on in that case? I feel like I'm missing some context on this point, somehow. Mind you, I'm kind of sleep deprived ATM, so I guess you could have meant something different, but that's how it came off to me.
Yeah, it's a bit of a slap in the face to respond to a confession of love with "we need to break up", but if you're going to break up eventually, the sooner you get it over with, the better...
The alternative - going along with it and hoping they decide to break up with you eventually - is how you end up getting divorced as soon as the kids leave for college...
Jebus he could have given here a few freaking minutes between her bearing her heart and him breaking it.
Scott's overall treatment of Knives is a huge part of why I'm not so sure Envy is the heartless witch she's made out to be for breaking up with him. And why I dislike the way she's handled in the movie.
I think he could have handled the breakup more delicately, that's what the Dom and other commentators are getting at.
@@DarklightAmy Yeah, I've only watched it once I while ago so my memory may be a bit rusty but his handling of the situation sucked, he needed to break up with her but he could have done so with at least a little tact.
Dear lord!
I did a The Dom marathon and got to 2014! This sure has gone a long way!
This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and the best comic based movies in my opinion.
I forgot how much I enjoy your videos. Lost In Adaptation is fantastic and I so, so enjoying watching them.
It really is a thrill seeing all the Toronto landmarks in the art.
If anyone hasn't seen it, you should search for Scott Pilgrim: The Animation which is an animated version of the flashbacks in this volume with the actors from the movie voicing the characters. It is very short, but it is a lot of fun if you have read the comic especially.
Dom, i just want to say from the bottom of my heart how thankful I am you are covering this subject. Scott Pilgrim (the comics) is leaps and bounds my absolute favorite thing of all time. And I've been hoping ever since i found your channel that you'd cover it. This comic deserves so much recognition for how good it is, and the film gets far too much credit. In my opinion, adaptation wise, it is the absolute biggest let down of all time. From the poor casting of Scott (and mostly every character personality wise), to the complete and utter misunderstanding and bastardization of what I think is a truly great and important story and message. I know I'm just some lame fanboy, but if you ever did want a massive fanboy's take on what is in my opinion one of the greatest romance stories of our generation, then I'd be more than honored to offer my thoughts to help my favorite work.
Thank you for making this
Keep up the great work!
Keep up the great work! Love the reviews!
Another great piece! Keep doing what you do!
Nice. Keep 'em coming!
Really enjoyed your video. It’s well done as usual.
Another great job Dom!
Another great review. Keep them coming & hope you feel better soon.
After scrubbing the extra features, I'm pretty sure they've had the first three books when they started making it, and got the fourth book during the production. The last two books where unfinished when the movie was finished with production.
As always, lovely content.
Thanks for being honest about how the "like, subscribe, and share" helps. I used to think that was just a "I want my name out there" type of thing, but now that I understand that I've been doing it more with not just your video but other videos I think deserve the show of algorithm.
Eyyy great video mate, keep it up
I love Dom's videos so much.
Looking forward to the next episode! Really eating these up as they come.
loving this series!!
nice video, I've been a fan of the show for a while now.
Wow. Good dom. Great vid. Commenting to give a great boost
Dom I really glad I found your channel I love books and movies and your videos have introduced book I haven’t read before!
Much more calm atmosphere, I like it!
keep pumping out that quality
Keep up the good work!!
I'm so glad you're covering Scott Pilgrim :D loving these episodes
These Scott Pilgrim videos are what made me discover your channel, and I just wanted to say I really enjoy your style and will be checking more out.
Just watched the movie again, great to hear you talk about it! Very entertaining!
Loving diving into the series. Can't wait to see what comes next.
I'm from a different part of Canada but there are still video rental places here on the west coast. They're usually more niche than Blockbuster was, specializing on imports, indy stuff, etc.
Great video Dom, I can't wait to see the next one. Also I hope your throat problems are getting better, don't hurt yourself.
Great video
Again, great video! Glad you agree that Wallace is clearly an awesome person that everyone should have in their life. I've had this belief for a long time.
I'm glad you're doing a Scott Pilgrim series! I really enjoyed the comic and movie.
Great video, Dom. I am impressed with how you are covering this subject. Can't wait for the next vid. Thank you for always being awesome!
I am enjoying this video as well as your vocal tone. Good Job on taking care of your voice! :)
Bloody great vid ;3
The Dom has such a soothing voice. I could fall asleep to it.
Loved it loved it loved it man!
Knives is my fav character and I can't wait to see how you cover her film vs book version later on.
This is me supporting your video
Yeah that was definitely a retroactive recognition moment for me with whoa wait is that Chris Evans?! It was up there when we realized Sam Jackson played a lawyer for a red herring on an old Law & Order episode. I had remembered Evans was in Fantastic 4 and even knew about Brandon Routh as Superman but didn't realize Evans was Lee...good times
Love this so much
You were so right! This video showed up in my suggested and i went back and watch the other video! Thanks for doing this series! Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is my favorite movie! I adore Edgar Wright!
My goodness The Dom, your voice is amazing like this.
