- I attend Surrey Car Meet's Sloane Street Supercar Sunday, where a large selection of performance cars and car fans met up on the busy London street to share their passion. Whilst most were well behaved, the police found any excuse to let us know West London's new regulations about noise.

That's not entirely fair, they have made a huge amount of bladed implements illegal, a great many of them have never been used in crimes ever, & they have put a huge amount of online companies out of business. I thought it would be quite nice if they put the same amount of effort into catching real criminals as they do to handing out tickets.

I was broken down on the grass verge of a dual carriageway and no police turned up in 180 minutes in the dark with no lights not even hazard warning!
How can they justify 11+ plod there for a (seemingly) peaceful event when there’s kids in housing estates across the city shooting and stabbing each other? The motorist is an easy target and these poorly trained and weak police officers are afraid of tackling real crime.

If it's anything like here in the US, a demographic accounting for 15% of the population is responsible for 50% of the crime. When the Police try to do their job, it results in a "disproportionate" number that demographic being arrested. Well, no sh**, since they ARE the ones committing the crimes. But that's deemed unacceptable, and harassment.
So, the Police say f*** that, and stay Hell out of the rough neighborhoods, and let them kill each other off. It's a whole lot safer and easier to roust a bunch of irritating but harmless car buffs than it is to respond to a 911 call, only to be harassed and attacked by the people they're trying to protect.

OMG someone revved their car.. Quickly fine and arrest them. Oh look, some youths on mopeds are installing fear into every city goer in London, naaaa said the police, we will let them carry on... But so god help them if they rev their engines on their bikes.
Well this is a very well known PSPO Zone so what do you expect, for the Police to not bother doing what they're paid for, that'd be a bit hypocritical because you're moaning about them basically not chasing kids around on mopeds.
If you live, work, or travel in an area where there's loads of little pricks on mopeds you'd know why Police don't chase them down any more, firstly they can't hardly ever catch them, because they go through parks, back alleys etc, and secondly it's a safety issue, ie they used to do chase them down but kids have died while being chased, so people moaned about that, so now they don't bother and get them later, it's a case of screwed if they do and screwed if the don't by public opinion.
ATEOTD there was literally traffic police there on motorbikes, plus the BMW X5 doing what they should be, policing the traffic. As a car guy myself, it seems like it's cool to call the police names but If you want to whinge about something point it in the direction of the idiots that arranged this meet. They knew full well it's a PSPO zone and how easily you get tickets in those zones for say playing loud music, revving engines, even driving in convoys is not allowed, so why the fuck would you put a meet on in a area like that?

Speeding at 1am in the morning with no C¥%T around serious crime when it’s compared with moped theft or knife crime .
They need to keep it on a track where the only people who can get injured pay for the privilege.
Social dissorder with moped gangs started with minor motoring offences and the Police being too soft, now it's like the wild west. Loud pipes are the bain of 99% people's lives. Taking things to the extreme with popping and banging noises, flames coming out are what caused the crackdown and the public havnt even got started yet. The Germans protested to the EU and now all performance pipes will have to be less than half the current noise level. So basically if you or your car makes more noise than a hamster sucking a straw then you will be arrested in London. The true city break holiday location, a cell for breathing too loud.
A local law for certain parts of London has been implemented as to reduce the number of people revving their loud engines. Since it is causing awful noise pollution, as well as ruining the lives of those who live and work within the surrounding houses and shops. Due to the increase in imported loud cars from countries such as UAE, this law is policed heavily in the summer months.
In other words, it's the rich fighting the rich, since those are the only people who can afford to live in these areas.

What idiot decided that a PSPO Zone was a good idea for a car meet?! It's been well publicised for the last 2 years about this area and how car unfriendly it is - turning up in a load of noisy motors wasn't exactly the smartest idea, and was never going to end well.
No sympathy at all from me - it was asking for trouble from the outset, and when trouble arrived, it is pointless whinging about it.
Get somebody with a bit more sense to choose the location for the next meet.
The sad thing is that a lot of those cars sounded better with original pipes when you can hear a bit of engine noise. The attention seekers running straight through pipes are the reason the Police get called out. Section 59 has been around ages and will only get tougher from now with bikers running stubby cans and no baffles, Harley riders with low self esteem running 'screaming eagle kits'. This is Narcissism, a mental illness. People serious about power and speed go to race tracks and actually try to keep their noise sensible.
I think the police has other more important crimes to go to but instead tell a guy off for driving a loud car

I went to prom in the red supra, and my brother was in the black one. Both are incredible cars and VERY fast.
I like cars but I don't understand why they all go to London.. like seriously? Go and find some nice roads where you can actually drive more than 10mph or getting up to 40 mph before slamming your brakes on... it must be very annoying for the people who live there and just for people passing by on a day out to hear the noise. I don't know if all the fines and stuff is a good idea, but for years now the police stance on this has been known... so if you do this kind of stuff, expect the grief.

I took my sisters old XR3i onto a popular street in Glasgow one summers evening way back in 1995 and at a certain time when the rare sight of foot patrol cops come by I was deliberately revving the engine of my parked XR3i which had special moderate sports exhaust on it to try to bait the cops but no interest was shown. Later my friend who had a Lamborghini Diablo came and parked his car in the same place as the XR3i was previously parked and did the same thing by revving his engine very slightly and not too loud and immediately the cops cautioned him and after a short debate they then arrested him.
When/What time of the year is this on? When in 2020?

No wonder the capital is in such a mess when its police force would rather issue tickets (more importantly fines) for trivial matters such as this, rather than dealing with the moped gangs throwing acid and stabbing people for an iPhone.
Police really are overkill. I am sure there are plenty of unsolved crimes they could be getting on with instead of annoying every one else. The people of the UK work hard enough during the week, so if you cant even chill and watch a few nice cars drive by on a warm summer Sunday then its a sad world. The cars werent even revving that much compared to what we have seen at the Ace Cafe meets in London.

Noise complaints are the biggest complaint for UK and many other countries in the EU. It was pretty obvious when carts and bikers started taking the piss in public the authorites would get tough. 99.9% of people want a better quality of life, which is why cars are supposed to be only 74db, and the Police are giving quite a big allowance fro mods already.

It's quite fair not to want this outside your house if you are not a petrol head.
They live on a street in London so if they want to live there traffic noise is a negative they just have to live with. It's like me saying I want to live out in the country (which I do) but I want a 5 minute commute to work and calling the police because it actually takes me 30 minutes plus.
There is also such a thing as triple glazing. Our house has double glazing and despite being a hundred and something year old stone house it blocks out farm traffic noise very well, and it passes our house closer than this traffic does here.
Noise on a street is different than sports cars with loud exhausts causing noise on purpose.
oli3659 Yes, sports cars exhausts are nicer to hear. And the people that got pulled here were not revving obnoxiously. A dozen idling taxis would be just as noisey. Noone was hitting the limiter or trying to use launch control or wheel spin, nothing here was any different to regular traffic noise, except being a few pleasant V8s rather than rickety taxis, road rage, horns and shouting and all the other noises that could genuinely disturb their piece, but they can't complain about because it's everyday life.

Do you expect them to take one look, not see any murders taking place, then leave London? patrol is simply WAITING for crimes to happen and then jumping in.
