Thanks for watching guys, This is my first of hopefully lots more videos that I plan on uploading weekly so please subscribe to notified when they are available. If you would also like to see a follow up to this video (I have ideas) then let me know in the videos.
Cool! I've watched quite a few of your videos but I'm now trying to start at the beginning to make sure I don't miss any. Really enjoying them! You've got some really great stuff. Especially enjoying the cooking ones.
I'm getting a giggle out of the comments that this is too much work- this excellent. I've been doing wax and saw dust for decades, but the combination of match and sparkler I should have thought of. I will rip that off, maybe see is a hit of spray shellac will help seal the ignition area. Particularly the big one, you can cook lunch on top of that. Stove made from a can, smaller than your billy... Yeah, getting ideas....
I've been a subscriber for a few years now and I just wanted to go back to the beginning and start watching. This is awesome Andy. Thanks for sharing For the rest of these older videos it will be a short comment but I gotta leave a comment because it does help your channel. Stay awesome KEEP ADVENTURING GOD BLESS YOU
Ive recently started making my own diy fire starters, and I've done similar pucks, but not self igniting. I like that idea. Might try applying that to my next batch.
Can't believe I have only just watched your first video. Cracking little fire starters, you could stick the striking surface off an old box of matches to anything you always take to camp.
From the US and seen a lot of videos but just watched them, my friend I'm going to make so of these I really appreciate your videos !!!!!! Keep up the good work.....
Wow, decided to check out all the older vids of my favorite You-tubers. This was a hidden gem right off the bat. Glad I took this peak back, good stuff here. Thank you and may you and yours have a Great Christmas!
Mate this is such a fantastic idea - being in the UK too, i'd never even heard of these little badboys before! Cheers for the info, going to try make some myself!
That big one looked quite fun. I may have to give one a try. These plus those color fire things sounds like an entertaining night around the campfire. 👍
this video is criminal.....with how low the views are this diy helps me with winter camping and a thru hike i did this summer. great video and my pucks lasted just as long as yours give or take a min but that was on the tail end so great info thanks for posting would love to see more diy maybe once a month?
A lot of your subscribers will not think of searching this video out so re-upload it and let a hell of a lot more people see this as it is an amazing tip!
@@KentSurvival I just found your channel this week and decided to look back at some older videos. I'm sure you see improvements you'd like to make before reloading, but this video is so helpful as is! I think you'd get plenty of views of "Vintage Kent"
You were right, I did find it interesting. Try experimenting with mineral oil. Burns fierce, doesn't evaporate and can catch a spark. I'm testing with it at the moment with good results. Thanks for posting.
cool, I have some from making chopping boards so ill give it a play. Also updating this design soon too. thanks for the feedback, been enjoying your vids lately.. especially as I'm putting together a Micro EDC, lots of good stuff.
Great idea, KS. Thought the sparkler would add some spectacle, but it just gave more heat they will light anything, I think. Should light with a ferro rod easy too. Look forward to seeing more, atb.
thanks, I'm not adding the sparkler dust anymore, its not worth it as the match material does a good enough job, looking to waterproof them at the mo which should make them a more reliable starter.
Hey, something I have not seen you use are magnesium shavings, or maybe I missed it. You can buy magnesium shavings or a block of magnesium with a ferro rod embedded. This will light a fire even under the most extreme wet conditions. Love your videos, very informative and well done.
Hi Douglas, no I don't use magnesium, I have played with it as a kid though... maybe ill use it on a video one day just for some variation, to be honest.. I use birch bark 99% of the time.. so available here and free and I swear better than any man made fire starter. Thanks for watching, glad to see people watching some of the old vids :)
Hi mate I've only just started to watch your videos and wow great video. when I get round to starting my bushcraft channel I'm going to have to try this. thanks mate I look forward to watching the rest.
Hey, thanks for watching, still playing around with this idea and perfecting it haha. and thanks again for your help with route planning, I'm hoping to get down there in around a week for a couple of days to test the waters.. really looking forward to it (even bought a new pack.. andy excuse haha)
Not a problem mate you will love Dartmoor. And will you be filming it and maybe next time you're down this way we could do a you tube meet up on the moors.
Hey, I have not, its not something I feel I could do a good video on, I kind of just muddle through myself (maybe a lack of patience) though I do think im getting a bit better the more I do it, I've watched a few vids on here myself but can't remember names, sorry. If I get more confident Ill do a video haha
Roy Kemp Joe Robinet and Wranglerstar have some pretty good videos on axe sharpening. Basically, take your time, be safe, and practise. Knife and axe sharpening can be a nice way to spend time. When I was in the Navy, I used to spend hours sharpening my Puma Game Warden. Got to the point where you could shave with it. Not saying I am an expert, just saying that if you have patience, you can achieve a very sharp tool. Good luck, buddy.
Been watching for a few months had to scroll back to see how you started out. Was not disappointed cheers 😃
Excellent and all made with household bits n bobs...... Your voice has definitely deepend these past few years.
What a great, interesting video. Had to come and see where it all started for you Andy. Not disappointed!
I’m watching this for the same reason ❣️

4 years and lots of videos later.... You're the man!
2024 and he's still the man!@@outdoorkohai3249
great firestarter! i think i might add the thermite accelerant in with the wax for periodic help.
Cool! I've watched quite a few of your videos but I'm now trying to start at the beginning to make sure I don't miss any. Really enjoying them! You've got some really great stuff. Especially enjoying the cooking ones.
Thank you Coralie, glad you're enjoying them, you really have gone back to the beginning here :P

The newer Russian military rations copied your idea with a match on the edge of their Esbit fuel tabs.
