  • Hi there! I'm so excited for this one. Definitely one of the most fun parts to play on this beautiful instruments, and even more if you get to play the entire music with the film projection. It was quite a challenge, but also super rewarding.
    At the same time it's kind of nostalgic because this was recorded in February, shortly before COVID-19 and all the pandemic quarantine.
    I'm so looking forward to getting back to play with my wonderful orchestra colleges of the Orquesta Estable del Teatro Colon, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
    Just for you to know, this was the dress rehearsal at our lovely Teatro Colon, and the audio was mixed between the camera microphone and another mic I set up somewhere in the hall. I hope it sounds good enough for you to appreciate the amazing work by John Williams, and these challenging timpani parts.
    I might upload a couple more clips from this recording in the near future, so stay tuned for more to come!!
    Be safe, wear a mask (this is gonna look weird in a couple years from now haha) and as always, best wishes from Buenos Aires, Argentina!!!

    This is why the Timpani is the best instrument

    I can recall exactly what is happening on screen just with the music. That's how you spot a great film composer, You don't have to look to have the image playing in your brain. You know the exact moment Vader enters, the exact moment the droids jettison the escape pod.

      Felix thank you so much for your comment. There’s no notation about how many drums you should use. This is what worked for me. I’ve seen people do this with 7 or even 8 timpani to avoid a lot of pedaling, but that wasn’t a possibility in our case because of the limited space in the stage.. best wishes from Argentina!

    Wow! Me encanto! Busque muchos videos de timpani relacionados al tema principal de Star Wars. Yo soy flautista y toque con orquesta durante 4 años... me encantaria ser percusionista y tocar el timpani ♥ Que instrumento mas bello! Gracias por grabar (: Me suscribi!

    This is very inspiring to watch! I only get to play the Timpani once a year when we play a symphonic concert in our local music club. I love it, but I still have much to learn. A video focusing on a pro timpanist throughout a whole song definitely helps.

    Gabriel- what timpani pads do you use? I would like to get some

    • @gr.percussion
      @gr.percussion  Před 3 lety +1

      Felix the pads I’m using are made by an Argentinian percussion instruments maker. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind shipping internationally. The brand is Gesteiner. You can find him on Instagram or Facebook
