I love you jumped straight into it. I dislike intros, long , short , whatever . 😍🙏🏽 thanks for showing me straight up what the problem is. I would have never thought about the oil separating and spreading, I would be so bummed. Canson too ! Yaaay.
Thanks! I like to get to the point as quick as possible.
Straight to the point, precise, informative; thank you, sir, for sharing your experience.
Loved the tape suggestion at the end.
Very informative
Great video thanks
Thank youuuuu so much
Thank you.
Damn I learned so much I know nothing about oil painting and canvases 😭
This is some valuable money saving information. Thank you for sharing. Also, I accidentally or happy mistakenly primed my watercolor paper backwards. I instead applied 2 layers of gesso first and then a coat of acrylic medium for the outer layer. I have to say that it works very well this way too! Well, cheers to never quitting. Carry on.
Thanks, I'm glad you found the video helpful! It is possible to paint over acrylic medium with oils, but it's best to use a matte medium instead of gloss. Golden has found rare cases where oils develop cracks when painted over gloss acrylic mediums, especially if you apply the oil paint straight from the tube (without adding any solvents or mediums to the oil paint). Here's the link to their recommendations. justpaint.org/revising-our-recommendations-for-using-oils-over-acrylics/
@@ChrisBreier Excellent, thank you again. It's a good thing I only have the matte medium!
Hi Chris, I really like your videos. I have not long started out on my acrylic painting journey and I find your videos helpful and informative. I really like your painting style too. One comment on the video, and that was to add a hint of neutral colour to the gesso so you can see where you have been. Would that work?
Thanks! Yes, tinting the gesso would make it more obvious the areas that have been covered already.
You can also use Shellac to size paper, before painting with oil.
I’ve heard of that, but i never tried it. Is that how you prime your paper?
This video was very helpful #chrisBerier.
How long does it take for the oil to seep into the paper? I am using mixed media with a small amount of black oiI paint on paper, it looks good after two months. Should I be concerned about degradation or would it have happend already?
With these samples I noticed the oil stains within a few hours, but these paint dabs are thick. You mentioned mixed media so if you started with acrylics and the oil is painted on top, then that might work to protect the paper. I wouldn't stress over it, next time you can use oil painting paper or prime the paper with gesso first. Also, I just noticed an oil painting I completed months ago has oil stains on the back of the canvas. And this is a store bought canvas that comes primed with multiple coats of gesso!
Canson Figueras paper.
Do you know what the difference is between Canson Figueras oil paper and the Canson Oil and acrylic paper that I show in the video (the one with the blue cover)?
@@ChrisBreier Canson Figueras paper is also 290gsm and looks identical to the blue pad. I believe that the same paper is sold under at least 3 different names, the last one being Canson Foundation Canva-Paper.
I use garlic
You use garlic?!
Are you a ventriloquist too? :)
I don't follow....🤔
@@ChrisBreier You have a surprising ability to say a lot while moving your lips very little :)
