Hi there. I'm Chris. Film is more fun is a place where I share about whatever busted up old camera I'm currently shooting and tinkering with, or my meanderings in film photography. It would be pretty rad if you said what's up. I'm 99% friendly. Definitely do that. Disclaimer: If you want technical proficiency go watch 'The Art of Photography' (love that show). These videos are more like an elderly person navigating a tv clicker.

Dude that's rad-- I miss darkroom printing so much. Once I get back on that horse, I will have to try this!!
Thanks man. Ilford has those portable pop-up darkroom tents now...
Beautiful results!
Thanks!
I’m going to try this! Thanks for the idea 👍
No prob! I'm glad you found it helpful 🙂
Cool tones on some great photos! my fave 4:57
Thx man!
Nice results - and good use of some of those film swap prints!
Thanks Dave!
Fun fact - Sally Mann tones with tea
Oh cool.
I wonder what the archival quality of staining with coffee or tea? How long the tone will last? Anyone got any very old prints that have been toned this way. I know that selenium toning actually increases the archive quality.
I don't believe it is archival because both coffee and tea contain tannic acid. As far as how long it will last- I'm not really sure. So far I haven't seen any fading on the prints I've toned years ago, but I guess time will tell how they fare.
If you're looking for something specifically archival to use I've seen an ink toner that results in a similar color but I forget the brand.
Have you tried instant coffee or tea?
Looks like fun.
I have! I did a comparison between coffee, tea, and wine a few years ago, and the coffee was definitely my favorite of the three.
Have you found a way to lighten a print that is too brown from the coffee??
No, I haven't. If it's still wet you could try soaking the print in clean water for a few minutes. The water rinse takes a very small amount of the coffee color out, but if you let it soak that may lighten it even more.
@@filmismorefun I tied washing for 15 min after the print dried but no change....
@thomasb4957 Oh bummer. Sorry to hear it didn't work out.
Testing on some misprints could get you in the ballpark before committing to your final prints.
should the coffee be hot? or doesn’t matter
I let it cool down a bit just for ease of working with it. To be honest though, I don't know if the coffee temperature would affect absorption or toning. If it did, I would suspect that fiber based papers might have a difference over RC papers, if any.
