Your mom knows her music. I still have this album on 8-Track. 💯🔥 Now you gotta ask her about "Double Dutch Bus"...
Francky Smith in my playlist for ever...
So Hamilton Bohannon "let's start to dance"...
Rapper's Delight was probably the first rap song anyone outside of The Bronx heard because it was HUGE. It was played at every Roller-Disco in the country. That base line and beat is sampled from a mega-hit disco song called "Good Times" by the band Chic founded by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. Nile Rodgers has been producing megahits all the way to today.
I’m 54… still know every word!! 🔥🤘🥰🤪
This was the first rap song I ever heard. I love this one. We even danced to it at our prom. Its just fun . Have some great memories of this one for sure.
We weren't allowed to wear our pants around our ankles! We got dressed up to go out to the clubs back then, and dancing well was EVERYTHING 😂❤
This song was rapped by a Granny in Adam Sandler's "The Wedding Singer" to everyone's delight. Along these lines, I highly recommend Blondie's "Rapture." You'll be impressed. 🙂❤
So glad to have been a part of this! It was the beginning, my friend. The first rap song, the beginning of hip hop, and here we are. Most of us that were there still know the words by heart ❤️
This is the true beginning of rap….it all started here! Brings back memories!
Your mom is a legend with great taste 👍
I used to roller skate my azz off to this song at the roller rink 40 some years ago, LMAO. It's still a jam!!!!
I loved this song back in the day and can still sing along. TY so much!
Well Greg your mother has tons of class. Love it.
Ayyyye! Your mom definitely knows the assignment. I was 10 years old when his song came out
I loved these guys. I have their t shirt and they signed it for me. Listen to White Lines. So much meaning behind it. Love your channel. 💓
This was my dad's favorite rap track. He knew almost every word lol. Can't wait to see your reaction. Much love skin 🙏❤💙🦅🇺🇸💙❤🙏
Now thats what Im talkin' about, the old school that got it all started in mainstream. Very big when roller skating/dance was at it most popular. I Love it. Momma's know best. Thanx so much for the memories, Peace
Yes! Memories on the stoop in Brooklyn ‘79.
Thank you Greg
I still have the original EP. I bought it when it first came out and still know every word.
Your mother probably had as much fun as the rest of us in this time ❤😂
The first cassette I ever owned was rappers delight in 1980 that started my love for hip hop
That beat, iconic bass line, and sampling comes from the song Good Times by the legendary Nile Rodgers and the band Chic.
If my aging memory serves, this song is also where the term “Hip-Hop” was born.
Love this brings back memories thank you so much.
I was in 10th grade when this came out (I'm old) and when I tell you there was nothing like this up to that point, this song exploded through my HS like lightning. It was tremendous, and seeing your reaction took me right back to those great old days. So glad you liked it!
Howdy class mate. I was 16 as well. Best of times 😁
Those were the days, no? Nothing like the 70s. It was great and we knew it.@@richardhoward6564
Love it! I sang this at school back in 77 or 78.
This was the first album that I ever owned.....
This is the way rap was back then and everyone loved it. The beats were always fantastic & you could understand everything being said & it helped that we could hear a story along the way. It was amazing. Nowadays we don't get this kind of good rapping. It's loud, usually just a few words sung over & over for 6 to 8 mins, if you can even understand what the heck they are saying & also the bass is always to loud. I love bass, but if it's to loud then it over powers the other instruments & the singing & all you hear is a lot of very loud BOOMS & how can anyone enjoy that. Not to many at all. I've heard you say on several video's how you never really paid attention to the words of some songs, except maybe the chorus, because you just loved the beat. Well, now you are discovering what was being said in some of those songs & it has really taken you back to a whole new love for those songs & has made you love them even more and I love seeing it. All of us older folks are truly enjoying watching you youngsters discover all this old, but new to you, good music. It warms my heart to see your reactions to the music we loved to dance, skate & party to. It was an amazing time. Sorry, didn't mean to ramble on.....lol. One more thing tho....you are absolutely adorable, Peace & Love from an old person ♥
Moms is so so so right on this one!
Grandmaster Caz wrote hanks rhyme. he is a legend!
HELL YEAH!! 😍One of my favorites of all time! I remember when this came out-- it was at every party I went to. It didn't take long for us to memorize the CRAZY LONG lyrics! To this day I still remember a lot of it. I WAS BUSTIN up at your reactions! Many people consider TSHG and RUN DMC as fathers of rap. I dont know if that is true, but I could see why they would be dubbed with this honor. Music changed overnight with these bands. Thanks for featuring your Momma's song... shes got good taste! Blessings from Washington State. 💛
We walked around 5th grade with lyrics written on notebook paper to learn this song lol
And to think my moms got me this record, came in a brown package- I was 15 at the time- who knew what was to come. The original joint is nearly 15mins.,this is a shortened version made for tv
Fun stories in the eap! 🤩 They sort of sampled that music from Chic ”Good Times”. Chic are addictive!
RIP BIG BANK HANK. 1956- 2014
I love it ur mom has good taste I’m in my 40s it’s bad as hell go mom and Greg much love to ur family
Used to the dance to this. Had the best music 50s to 90s.
We still rockin and looking good.! See what good music can do. Lol. Great reaction.
I roller skated to this at the skating rink in the late 70s and 80s
This is one of my favorites! I have it as my ringtone on my phone
I bought the record the day it dropped. 5 th grade! 👍
No gangsta and no killin it's beautiful man
This was the first Rap song to chart. This was in 1979. We all learned the words to this song, Please react to the 14 minute full version of this song.
This song came out when I was in high school. My sophomore year, there was a guy on the boys basketball team who could rap the whole long version. Whenever the boys won an away game, the coach let him rap on the way back. The team was good and made it to state, so by the end of the season, we all knew all the words. Great memories.
Best rap song ever! Great dance song!
I truly had a blast watching this reaction. Good job, bud. 👌🏻👍🏻
My jam!!!! ❤😂
Hey Greg! This came out when I was in high school, it was the jam. Yeah bad food time to go! LOL
My all time favourite
Your mum has impeccable taste
This is an all time classic! Still gets the party started.
You’ve got to get into Big Daddy Kanes catalog- Ain’t no half steppin, I get the job done and Raw for starters.
I'm there with you. I knew people who thought getting food poisoning regularly was normal. You had to pray hard when you were in their place.
Haha the food part is the best part of the song 😂
watch the documentary about them. they got sooo screwed over by their record label. it was literally criminal what happened to them. the studio that had the masters to the song mysteriously burned down (the label owned the studio); the son of the labels owners became the group (somehow) and has toured as them; it is just so insane.
This was fire 🔥 back in the day. They were the 1st rap group. I still think it's fire 🔥
No swearing.
Swearing didn't start till 2 Live Crew that forced labels to put parental advisory on album covers
Listen to -> grandmaster flash "the message"...
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Slick Rick - Children’s Story. It’s an oldie.
Song for Dancing,it was my Disco Time
I still know all the words.
This was the first rap song I ever heard. I was in high school and it was a totally new sound and I loved it - we all loved it. And yeah, I've been in the bad meal situation. I was eating at my best friends house and they served spaghetti that was loaded with sugar - ugh! I probably ate it to be nice but it was awful.
OMG your moms!! She wasn’t lyin
Chicken taste like 🪵!!!??!!!!! Straight BAR!!!!!!
Yes 😂😂
You gotta listen to the 12-minute vetsion of this song....
If you want more old school rap, check out "The Breaks" and "Christmas Rappin'" by Kurtis Blow.
Your Mamma know, right?
Those were my party days...lol
Who else knows all the lyrics to this song!?!
It sounds like your mom has good taste in music. I’m in my late 30s and I prefer older music over some of today’s stuff
👍👍💯❤️🔥🔥🔥
I know my aunt can't cook. It was after Easter and she invited everyone to her and my uncle's house. She made good desserts but the mac and cheese made you want to throw up. I mean it looked like the singles in between the Macaroni and milk. Eww. My family kept making up stories about we had to go to my grandmother's house to find eggs. We all knew it was a lie😂
You should listen to Slick Rick’s Children Story!!!! I promise you won’t be disappointed
You should check out THE BREAKS by Curtis Blow, if you haven't already.
I was like 11 when this came out
was a banger? still a banger.
You 1st rap
