Using one ride/crash cymbal removes a lot of dynamics from the drums
how so? haha
jrjrkz3453 on record it works well. Live the ride just doesn't have enough punch. All of the parts in this video on the ride/crash sound far to same'ish. Crash cymbals are a quality way to add some extra punch and increase the variety and options available to a drummer in a live performance.
i understand where you are coming from "variety"-wise, but still don't understand the lack of dynamics because the drums are pretty loud throughout the whole song. nonetheless, i respect your opinion

I feel sorry for that drummer. Such a barebones kit, but he makes do and that's what's up.
I went to school with the drummer.... he use to play bass for this band a long time ago... really nice guy too. When he made the transition I was like what? but I think he does a pretty good job at em.
Only because you have a smal kit does not mean it sad or something. True creativity shows when you have little to play with. Hes not really the best drummer I've seen but hes good.
I'm sure it's his own kit. So it's not really "making do." It's what he prefers to play on.
And even if it is a borrowed kit or venue/tour kit usually between the other bands, or whatever the tour/venue provides, he'd have enough to build just about any kit he could possibly need. So It's not really "bare-bones," just simplistic.

and as already said: that one guitarist is moshing like crazy but keeps playing his stuff..so why caring about some missed tones?
