Don’t forget to subscribe for more videos about CORNWALL and Falmouth I sometimes visit St Ives Cornwall and Padstow Cornwall too. Come here for everything from travel recommendations to beach reviews such as Perranporth Beach Cornwall. I also LOVE EXPLORING Cornwall’s coast line and the South West Coastal Path. Thank you for watching and commenting and liking the video.
I survived a blizzard in Scotland in my van. I use the word 'survived' as so many vanlifers use that word. To be honest it wasn't exactly survival as my van was insulated and I had a diesel heater.
Can't beat walking on a beach in a storm, good to detox the mind!
Yep
Newquay and especially Fistral look so different in the winter. You should try Bristol for vans. Not too far away and there are plenty available. T5/6's are still silly money, but there are a few nice Transit conversions around.
Yea I’ve been looking at transits I think they’re very underrated
"Bigger is better". ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
The part where you got in the van and went "BRRRRR" I have no idea if that was meant to be funny, but I was laughing my ass off at that, excellent timing. 🤣🤣👍👍
Yea I dubbed it slightly out of time to make it funny 😂
I wanted something like a vivaro with a Hightop, but they was always few and far between and pricey, managed to get a small van (scudo) with a high top and couldn't be happier with it
I last sat up on the benches by Harbour Beach with my Mum and Dad in 2019, beautiful memories as I lost my Dad in June 2021. Have to say the weather was a lot better then though x
❤️
Great vlog gutted we missed you while you were in town 👍 keep up the great editing & hope you find your van soon 🚌
Thanks you two x
A few hours travelling for the right van that will last for years must be worth it keep up the good work
Thanks Keith
Now you need a camera that points to you handbrake and gearstick as well!. Didn't realise there were so many van variants, but I loved your graphics! Point your wheels to the kerb as well, but I'm sure you know that.
Yea that’s a good idea
Loved the van schematics 😂
There are definitely some Beautiful places in the U.K.
Another Great Video
All the Best from Australia
😘🇦🇺😘🇦🇺
Thanks for watching 😊
Relay, Boxer or Ducati L2H1. They’re MWB and low top. Depending on your height you can stand up in them (kind of) and they’re great vans. Cheap too!!!
Thanks for the advice
I think the Rattler branded hats are also sourced from the same supplier as Kosin, has the fleece lining - so toasty :D Deffo gonna check out the rest of the stuff Kosin have. Brill video as always!!
I have a transit hightop mwb, its great not too big and fits in a normal size parking space but hight barriers are a real problem
Nothing better than a Cornish beach on a stormy day ❤ good luck with your van hunt 😊
Thank you
The Fort is the best pub in Newquay! We’ve often seen seals in the harbour from the terrace 😀
Had the same problem in a vana few years ago, got to 2000rpm and went flat. Changed all sorts of things, went in for an Mot and they changed a fuel line that was corroded and that turns out was the problem....easy fix in the end.
Love the weekly installments Shaun.
Thank you
Even at night that view from The Fort was gorgeous. I used to do a lot of sailing when I was younger and sometimes I would do an overnight and sleep in the cabin. It had a lot less room than your van but it was still fun and a real feeling of being "away from it all" I used to drop anchor a little way off shore, sit on deck with cup of tea, listening to the water lapping against the hull and the halyards chinking against the mast and watch all the shore lights shining across the water. It was so relaxing.
Did you sit and eat pasty’s Colin?
@@LoveSundays haha! Of course!! 😁
looks really great I haven't been to fistral beach for over 45 years.I know what you mean about van size decisions ,I opted for the MWB high roof sprinter. lovely van fits in Parking spaces (just) but can't get under barriers.
Thanks for the tips!
AS someone who has gone from a lwb high top transit to a swb vivaro like you have now I strongly advise against big vans there just isn't the space in this country and you can never park anywhere. Less is more! But it all depends on what you need I guess. Don't forget the mwb high top option you could probably park that most places still whilst having lots of room inside.
Thanks for the advice
I disagree with this, I think that big vans are 100x better. coming from a guy who converted a small van and has converted 5 other van which were all big, I get that they are a struggle to park sometimes but the advantages easily outweigh the disadvantages.
You should try sleeping in a Land Rover Defender short wheelbase kitted out for stealth camping. Keep things small and simple, everything in its right place, multi-use stuff if possible, keep things clean and tidy, and def don’t hang/put anything on the outside. Not many people can, or would want to, do it but not many residents will approach a Land Rover owner for fear of upsetting a very sleepy hairy monster! 😂
😂
Just arrived in Cornwall to try out some vanlife 👌🏻
Enjoy
Ah, so many memories of Newquay and not all sober. Good to see Fristral beach, had one of my biggest drop ins there. Scared the crap out of me. You do have a dilemma with which van, take your time. We got our T5 from Wales, unfortunately the company closed during covid and it was so much cheaper than down here
Really good video again Shaun you certainly put yourself out there in some rough weather to keep us entertained. You should do a review on the pub food you have always nice to know of good places to eat or places to avoid. Thanks as always Shaun for all the effort you put in.
Yea that’s a good idea Nigel I’ll incorporate that into some video this year
Look cool and enjoyable!😊
Love Newquay can't wait to go back this year and see family. Love the sunsets on little fistral the white hut what a view
Ahh the fort. Memories x
Love your videos, great distraction from life at the moment. Just love those drawings of the different van sizes 😂
Thanks Peter
Another great video, loved the van animations and although I shouldn't laugh I did chuckle at the face you were pulling when getting absolutely battered on Fistral beach 😆One of the many thing I love about Cornwall is its got many sides to it, beautiful in the summer and savage in the winter, but also in a really nice way - nothing better than finding a nice warm pub overlooking the raging sea in the wintery months whilst tucking into a Korev (or two!) - less tourists is always nice too! I can also see more brands getting in touch with you for sponsorship which is great for your channel. Keep it going!
Thank you
From experience of having the same model van your loss of power is most likley EGR valve or DPF filter.
Thanks for the advice
Love Newquay x thanks form New Zealand
Thanks for watching!
Loved that over dubbing, soo funny. You gotta do a full episode like that. 😂
😂
Love the animation art work , give you points on that , as well as the good save on the voice over . You will never beat the technical falts . And you had the wind , we have had the snow , but this week the sea has been flat, so hoping to go paddle boarding today. again good work.
Thanks mate
sounds like your turbo is toast
Making me want to do this more and more. Might convert my van asap lol car /. An camping stealth mode love it pal
Go for it!
Fuel filter!
I liked your van ideas, 💡 when I'm ready to get a van I'm going for a medium wheel base high top. And once that feeling that you may of forgotten something gets into your head, you just can't shake the feeling
Right on!
Solution for wet trousers I've found is thermal long johns. I've got some made by a company OEX that I got in Go Outdoors. Made from bamboo fibre. Very comfy, very warm. I do some rally marshalling which can involve standing around for long time periods in terrible weather and my legs never get cold, even if the jeans get soaked, the thermals cut the wind. Even better when paired with knee length thermal hiking socks.
Been working on one of my cars in an unheated garage this week and it's been snowing and below 0 degrees C. Got two pairs of long johns under my jeans and I'm warm enough to just wear a long sleeve base layer and a T shirt on top. Easier to get your arms into tight spaces without too many layers on.
Thanks for the advice
Nice vid Shaun on my old home town when I lived in Cornwall. I forgot how beautiful the ocean is at this time of year. Thanks. Stay safe 🤙🏻
Thanks Lee
Good vlog Shaun, shame about the audio but an Interesting time regarding a van replacement looking forward to see what you decide on! Keep the vlogs coming! Regds Alan
Thanks Alan
I have the same van, try the airflow meter, they are a known problem. You can check it by unplugging it then driving the van, if it revs and drives with it unplugged then that’s what it is.
nissan elgrand e51 is the one and it can be converted if needs be 😉
Another nice video Shaun, love the winter ones you get a whole new perspective on Cornwall.
Thanks 👍
@ Love Sundays Shaun I am looking to buy a van in the near future in order to do something similar to what you do and I would also like to go sea fishing as well but I think the most important thing that you should consider in any van that you buy is being able to have access from the back into the driver's cab in case you need to drive away in an emergency
100% even though I have a curtain in the current van I can’t fit through to get into the front
Great videos, keep doing what you’re doing and we’ll keep watching. Thank you 👍
Thanks John
I have just got a lwb high top transit, parking is definitely not as easy but I decided I wanted the extra space and being able to stand up in it makes it so much more comfortable.
Yea I think you made a good choice
I'm happy that I went this route, took me a while to decide as I definitely had the same thoughts as u with the parking etc , but the head room was the biggest factor for me
Thanks for the information...ime getting my own campervan, can't wait!
Cant go wrong with one of Indians or stable bar in winter!
Thanks
Brilliant videos as always buddy . me and misses are down newquay this weekend . probably going check out that restaurant ! looks good. 3 nights in piran meadows 👌👌👌
Enjoy
We love the red lion in newquay always a great meal in there ❤️❤️
Excellent video, as always. Keep up the good work. Hope van situation gets resolved. 🙏
I hope so too
Bringing back memories of summer. But parking looks a bit easier at the mo 😀
Yes it was!
Cornwall is stunning in all weathers. The food looked tasty and the view was still nice even in the dark. Our move finally happens next weekend, can’t wait 😊 if we see you on your adventures we’ll say ‘hello’
Best of luck with your move Sarah
Could be your airflow meter try removing the plug then take for a drive
Thanks for the advice
Great video
If you get a LWB you'd be carrying more timber and clutter around - and loose on MPG. Ducato/Boxer/Relay L2H2 seems like a good choice (can sleep across and fit in most parking spaces), but then there's a pandemic of Height Restriction Barriers in this country. Most of them are around 2.10m mark, but there's usually extra 10-20cm on top of the stated height, but they are getting lower and lower. One might get away with Ducato SWB low-roof and installing air-suspension (like American low-riders), and then most of the height restriction barriers won't touch you (in theory). It's a sad state of affairs really.
The wet probably made your van go funny, mine does that in very wet weather
Could be it’s been running fine since
Sounds like you're going into limp mode. Could be a few things, often a dirty or faulty particulate filter, fuel filter, but maybe oil leaking into the cylinders. Prime suspect anything between the air and fuel intakes to the engine. Do you get an engine warning? Have you connected an ODBII diagnosis tool to the dash? (Basic one about £15 quid on eBay - takes away a lot of the guesswork).
Leaking oil and gaskets is the worse case scenario - definitely time to move on vans, if that's the case. Just have a quick check under the engine for any obvious oil leaks around the seals. But usually the particulate filter, that's not too bad/expensive to fix up.
Good advice
Costa? And advertising it? Perhaps the local Cornish cafés were closed. We keep away from feeding the rich as much as we can. 😊😁
Every local cafe I went to was closed at this time in the morning plus I had a free coffee on the Costa app 😂
@@LoveSundays 😂❤️
God I want a van like that.
Fistral Beach is my favorite in the summer
There’s a lane out of Crantock that takes you down to Polly Joke beach. Cracking place for a stealth camp😊ps don’t tell anyone😂🏄🏻♀️🤙
Great video again. My memory of eating in the outside part of the fort was trying to dodge the maurding seagulls who used to swoop down and steal food from peoples plates. There were some anti seagull wires there for a bit. Seeing your videos makes me want to dig into my wallet and buy a small va like yours for weekend trips
You should get one
I’ve got a mwb Fiat Ducato, I’m 6 feet tall and can stand up inside. It’s only 5.4m long so I can park in a normal parking space although it’s too tall for height barriers. I have two single seats in the front so I can walk through to the back without getting out. I am thinking of replacing it with a mwb Transit which is a bit longer at 5.5m.
Good advice
Hi Shaun, love the channel and what you do. I’ve got a similar aged Trafic and had the same problems. EGR value was solid and not working but a good clean and some Wynn’s System clean in the petrol tank worked wonders…Good Luck 👍. And…smaller vans are better for stealth and getting anywhere 😄
Great tip!
In Newquay last weekend visiting my brother and fam. You took me right back there thank you
Hope you enjoyed it!
Hi Shaun , another great video. I’ve bought two of those hats this morning! Keep it going really enjoying your work .
That’s great Howard thanks for supporting locally 😊
Love Cornwall and loving the channel Shaun (I’m a relative newbie!) - looking forward to the next instalment!!
Welcome to the channel Jason
Love these videos and your channel Shaun! If you do end up getting another van, watching you kit it out will be good viewing!
Thanks Sam
Another great video as always 🤙🏻🍊
Thanks again mate
Had the same problem, cheap supermarket fuel and changed the fuel filter been fine since
As always, great content. Regarding the van, I think it's perfect. However, you can get a bet that's mounted to the wall of the van, and then when you pull it down, it becomes a queen sized bed. My partner and I got a Vw transporter t6.1 only because it was £2,000 than a Ford custom. For use, it is ideal. We do have a pop top that defeats the object of stealth camping. I am looking forward to seeing what you plan on getting.
Regard8ng your van not going over 50mph can mean a few things from experience, it's either not enough fuel being pumped into the engine, I.e. blockage in the fuel pipes or the accelerator pedal has durt on the lens, and modern-day pedals have these very fin brushes that brush over a senser pad. When I had a 52 plate audi A4 all it needed was some IPA (not the beverage haha!) cleaning solution to clean the sensor pad of the dirt and the car was back to normal, however other brands can differ with pedals. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the advice
Van is in limp home mode
Yea it may just be just home is where you park it 😂
Always Leave Your Van In Gear , If You Park On A Slope Turn Your Wheels To the Kerb, To Be Safe. I Did See A Van Roll Down Cliff Road I And Crash n Perranporth So It Can Happen.
I normally always leave my van in gear it all goes back to my first car that was a 1979 mini that had the worst handbrake so it’s kinda ingrained in me but this time I obviously forgot 😂
The weather has been horrible lately, At least we got snow! I hope you manage to find a van that suits your needs. Great video as always :) (I'd go for the LWB High top, It could make stealth camping more interesting, Since you would have to find a spot that's not in a carpark. And you would have enough space)
Cheers mate
Hi Shaun . If you want maximum space and value in a van then the lwb boxer/ducato is hard to beat. Its the same length as a mwb crafter but just has much more space. The lwb crafter is a much bigger van, and you will probably have to park it 10 miles out of Newquay in the sunmmer😂😂. Also, I am sure you know, but you can easily sleep across in the boxer, so it frees up more living space. Love you quick overnighters...it seems to be the way I get away most of the time.
Cheers Ed
100%! I have a SWB Ducato and compared to Vivaro/Traffic variants, it's huge, way more boxy inside. Also, a lot of people stick their noses up at Fiat vans but i swear by them, iv'e had loads of vans and my current Ducato is the best vehicle i have ever had.
@@tilerman I currently use an l4 boxer and it's great for my needs. My next van is a MWB 4x4 MAN, and I know it's going to be much smaller. I have had a lwb crafter and it gives me parking anxiety 😂😂
You can actually sleep across sideways in a vivaro thats what I have done in my van you just need to go into both walls to allow for head space and foot space, it allows much more space.
Thanks for all the advice
Another great video. I love the hat!
Thanks Helen
Great video Shaun. Wow Newquay is so quiet in winter, hardly move on Fistral beach in the summer 👍
Thanks Nigel
What about " Making the best out of small spaces". Get advice, think of things not necessary in van, making each corner useful? Or get a Tardis 🙃🤣
Great idea!
Can't beat Newquay on a stormy day. Wait yes you can when it's summer. Fistral beach looks bad this time of year and another great video Shaun. By the way don't know how far you will travel for a van but there are a few companies in the North West that sell some great vans.
Thanks for the advice mate
Great vlog love Newquay it's just got a vibe that can't be explained. Although I think when I was younger that we as the best times as seems very taken over now 👍🏻🏴👍🏻
Couldn't agree more!
Great video Shaun👍🏼 and good luck with the van hunting! Would a MWB high top an idea? Tough choices
Cheers Martin
You should collab with wills whereabouts
Fuel filter mate get it changed its a common fault on deisel vans Dave , York
Cheers Dave
Hi Shaun. Another cracking video mate and what lovely weather 😂 if the vans rocking don’t come knocking 😂😂 there is loads off vans out there mate if your willing to travel, personally for me a long wheel based vw grafter or a Mercedes sprinter seem pretty good there are some nice ones out there and if your not in a massive rush then you’ll find a good one. Keep up the good videos mate.
Cheers Jon
@@LoveSundays keep up the good work shaun. 👍
My van was losing power and I got a new alternater , and I happened to change leisure battery at the same time and everything runs like a dream now.
Thanks for the advice
2:58 - it’s would be 10 am you would have to leave mate. The enforcement starts at 9am but you can then park for an hour so you will be fine till 10am.
Yea I realised that when I got up early and moved but to be fair I left at 8am anyway
Another good video 🚗🚙🚘⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
Could be clutch problem, it is worn and you rev in your normal gears and no power. I had it on a Nissan Micra.
Thanks
Love watching your videos it was a bit bleak out there was expecting you to go surfing but i don't blame you we like the heat not the cold. We agree the lwb high roof sound a good one look at the Ford transit L3H3 or the ford custom lwb high roof thats the one we have, stay safe see you on the next one 👍 michael & kim
Thanks 👍
You lost me at lwb 😂...sounds interesting anyway 😉. Hope you get a good one anyway... with all the bells and whistles 👌🚌. Glad you checked your gears 🙏... can't have you floating away to France 😱😂✊
I definitely won’t be loading after all the food at Christmas
Fiat ducato is the obvious choice, only van that easily fits a transverse fixed bed.
Thanks
Sounds like the turbo isn't spooling up on your van Shaun. At first I suspected that you may have a split hose but then later in the vid you said it was running fine again so I would suspect a sensor fault. As for van choice I bought a LWB Renault Master high top but after years of VW vans of all types I couldn't get on with it. Yeah great for space but not so easy stonking around our county highways and byways and height restrictions caused problems too. So glad I kept my T25 now. As I said before look at MWB high cap but then you are absolutely right, vans are difficult to source down yer. 😉
Cheers Sid
I have a long wheel base t5 2006 3/4 rock and roll, fringe, cooker etc if you interested its up on Dartmoor..... .
I’ve had a T5 before and I loved it but might want something bigger this time
I know a few spots when your free around Devon and Cornwall maybe do an adventure at some point
There’s a really good Portuguese restaurant on the main road through Newquay I would recommend
Thanks I’ll check it out sometime
Awesome stuff mate! I went all the way to Bolton for my xlwb transit 🤦🏻♂️…bleddy good space in it tho!
Best of luck with it man! 😎🤙
I’m in Bodmin if you ever wanted to have a look at the size…you know, for reference and stuff 🤣😂
I may have sourced something I’m sure I’ll reveal it soon
@@LoveSundays sweet! Looking forward to it man! 🤙😎
LWB is difficult to to maneuver. I vote for something like a SWB mid top, the one which allows to just stand up. High top will be susceptible to high winds. Imagine driving through a stormy night and getting blown off the A30 . I actually drove a long VW T5 from London down to Penzance and back up (still short compared to a Mercedes Sprinter) and I didn’t like it going through the smaller towns.
Good advice
You should be a voice sync actor, that was perfect...lol
😂
