- Robert De Niro said his speech criticizing former President Donald Trump at the Gotham Awards was edited on the teleprompter without his consent - so he read his original remarks off his phone instead.
'The former president lied to us more than 30,000 times during his 4 years in office, and he’s keeping up the pace in his current campaign of retribution,' De Niro read on, while speaking about the new Martin Scorsese film 'Killers of the Flower Moon,' in which he co-starred. 'But with all his lies, he can’t hide his soul. He attacks the weak, destroys the gifts of nature, and shows disrespect, for example, by using 'Pocahontas' as a slur.'
After reciting the omitted text, De Niro blamed Apple, which produced the film, for the incident.
'So I’m going to say these things - to Apple and thank them, all that. Gothams. Blah blah blah. Apple. But I don’t really feel like thanking them at all for what they did,' said De Niro. 'How dare they do that, actually?'#ICYMThis

I think it is his duty to speak about these things as he has the platform and let's be honest, Trump is dangerous for America. He tried to overturn an election, has repeatedly said he will use his time in office to go after people, has 91 pending charges, etc. Defending the republic and democracy should be more important than accepting an award.
