In this episode, we challenge ourselves like we never have before.... Can we build a Millennium Falcon-inspired bench almost completely out of EVA foam? It's as much an emotional video for me as a fun build so we hope you enjoy it!
As a Kid I loved the Kenner Millennium Falcon toy, I collected a whole bunch of ships and figures and still have them now! As an adult it was a natural step to build part of the Falcon for real so in the hope of making my Dad proud I grabbed my tools and set to.
I used EVA foam, and a resin printer and a handful of LED lights to pull this build together.
Thanks to our awesome supplier/sponsor/friends over at Tyges Supplies for providing all of the EVA Foam and those amazing glue sticks for this build! Be sure to check out their product range below!

I watch a LOT of these SW diy builds, and I have to say, this is the best video I have ever seen. Informative, and a sweet tribute to your Dad. I have but one question: Did you do a final "clear-coat" of some kind? A matte acrylic? Anything?
Wow, thank you! It’s comments like this, make it all worthwhile, it’s very difficult to get CZcams to notice smaller channels. Thank you for watching and commenting and no I just stopped at the plastic tip layer as seen in the video ☺️
James this is simply wonderful my friend. The build, the story, the editing . . . Wow! Just wow!!!!
Brian mate, thank you so much for watching and supporting. Means a lot dude 🙂👊
Epic! I love the build, I really love the 'inspired by' aspect- but the bench is done so well that many people could think it's spot on. And the memories are the best touch. The stories with your dad, the nostalgia of the toys with adverts and catalogues- it's all perfect. Fantastic video!
Odin, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! Glad you enjoyed it, the narrative has been received well, I think that speaks volumes about this wonderful community, thank you for the endless foam inspiration sir! 👊
I realize this was posted two years ago but just seeing this today was very inspirational and even moving for me. Your tribute to your dad here is easily the best part. I remember waiting in line to see the original film with my dad in 1977 and all the curious anticipation of something none of us knew anything about. Who would have expected a movie to be so entirely life changing, especially at just age seven? You’re a great dad, obviously, and this, too, is also obvious. The nostalgic shots of old Kenner and Hasbro advertisements and how you described your hours of fascination and childhood dreams of these toys was very relatable. Bravo on this epic masterpiece! It’s absolutely beautiful and so authentic in detail. I like your approach to realism mixed with creativity in terms of taking liberties with certain things not necessarily seen on screen (i.e. “canon”). Besides, the Millennium Falcon was always falling apart and being rebuilt, so who’s to say your version of the bench isn’t part of this evolution? Very well done.
Wow, such an incredibly kind comment! This kind of impact is the very reason I film my builds, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video so much it means a lot and the video is pretty close to me heart. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. 👊
The way you wove your personal story into the build and the video was so touching. The best Maker videos tell that kind of story! Well done.
Thanks man, so glad you watched and enjoyed the narrative!
👊👊
The tribute to your dad and the clips of old advertising made me all misty. Love the feel of your videos. The gentle sounds washing over the video blending the visuals to the emotion. The seamless transitions and clarity of message. As a consumer of CZcams I applaud you! As a creator…I’m…I’m gonna go cry in the corner where there is no Star Wars furniture at all and reassess my life choices. 😀
Hahahahaha brilliant!! Thank you buddy! (Throws you a pillow)
Such an awesome video with an epic build. Talking about your childhood always takes me back to when I was a kid. The Reveal got me choked up and brought a tear to my eye. We cherish the moments with our families and that will live on forever. I’m sure your fathers hologram was watching you the whole build. Thanks!
Thanks Dave, means a lot fella, really does. As you know it's been a difficult one, but I'm pleased with the result and do hope Dad would have liked it 👍👍👊
@@RebelBaseBuilds He would be so proud!
Brilliant! Your dad, wherever he is, must be proud of you! ;)
Thank you sir, and thanks for watching 👊
what a beautiful dedication to your dad. I am sure he has the biggest smile watching from above. And the new priceless memories your kids will have after you are long gone. Just amazing. Bravo !!!
Thank you so much!
Amazing build! There is nothing as iconic as the Millennium Falcon bench.
Yup iconic in every way, thanks!
All Man .well your dream came true. And yes your father is proud of you. And know you can share with your kids. Can't wait to one day build my Star Wars bench. Thank you for the Episode!💥👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿😁👍🏿
Absolutely, thanks for watching so glad you liked it 👍
Amazing! Your props skills are just as good as your video skills! I thought I was watching a movie!! Great job James!
Wow thanks, great comment! I really do put a lot into the edit, so it's great to see people enjoy it. Thanks for watching and commenting it really helps!
Incredible build!!! You are a hero to your kids. I built a Death Star themed mancave a couple years back. My sons are grown. I wish I could have done that when they were smaller. Truly inspiring work sir.
Reactions like this is why I continue the channel! Thanks so much man! Star Wars has always been about family to me 👊 your Star Wars themed man cave sounds awesome!
So wonderful seeing you create a legacy for your kids like your dad did for you, connecting the generations by making memories.
Thank you for watching - and love that you picked up on that! Star Wars has always been family for me :)
Amazing that something so strong & durable can be made out of foam! Your video really stands out thanks to the great story telling and nostalgic audio/video clips. Congrats on this project.
Thank you for watching it means a great deal when viewers take the time to comment and highlight aspect they enjoy, glad you like the strlory, it's always the driving force for me 👊
thank you for watching and commenting! really pleased you liked it!
man James i love your work, i thought this was just going to be another great build video but man this hit me right in the feels ya know, the nostalgia was great. Im a huge star wars guy but growing up my mom was a trekkie, i lost her almost a year ago, but my brother in law is a huge trekkie so we are painting and adding props to his bathroom to make a nice star trek thyme, so i have been thinking about her a lot with that project. Then when you were talking about your dad and building star wars stuff, man. Thank you for this video, and its amazing work as always!
Dude! Such a great comment! Thanks so much for watching and sharing my narrative 👊👊 love a bit of trek!! Cheers man
Very well done! In both craftsmanship and your visual storytelling!
Thank you sir! Coming from you that means a lot!! 👊
I know closed cell foam is robust stuff but I wouldn't have ever thought of using this for the _structure_ of the seat. [Here from The Smugglers room]
Thank for for joining us! Yup crazy for sure but it's really robust and when layered is hard as nails! And light so I can take it to conventions if the chance every cropped up 🙂
Absolutely amazing build James! I’m gobsmacked with how cool this looks. It also looks really comfortable. Your sharing your memories with your dad and experiences with Star Wars really made this an extra special piece. I know your dad would be so proud of you. Too bad he won’t be able to sit down with and your children to watch Mando together. But, I’m sure in some ways, he’s doing just that. We never truly lose the ones we love. Seeing the Tydirium Shuttle at the end brought up some special memories of my own. I can remember building that, along with an A wing and B wing when I was young. Having this community these days really brings out so many great experiences. Thank you for all you do.
Wow Deanna, thank you so much for taking the time to comment in such detail. I'm blown away by your words, the video was both fun and emotional but so worth it. It's pretty comfortable actually as the foam has the right amount of give 🙂. But yeah, I've been getting choked up reading such lovely comments, thank you again, I'm really glad you liked it ☺️
I never thought Foam would be so sturdy to be used as a base for a Bench. Really impressive result!
It's a crazy good medium to work with, check out my other videos, most are foam build. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 🙂
@@RebelBaseBuilds I did, some of them more than once
I heard Odin and Felicia mention your channel a few minutes ago on their live stream. Subbed and liked right away. I was born in 1977, so I know how much Star Wars can mean to a person, even today. Great work!
Wow thank you so much! I hope you enjoy the content - more is coming!
Whoah! 😮 This is what my dream sofa looks like, not gonna lie. Incredible result!
Well thank you! Grab the free plans and go build one 😉😉
The Force is strong with this one! Amazing job Sir.
Thank you!!
Awsome mate! Gave me goosebumps at the end and a tear to my eye. Your dad would be so proud mate!
Thanks man!
I loved seeing that little gonk being used in this video. Once I finish the final touches on my custom sabacc set I'll be working more on my own gonk droid build which will basically be a glorified power strip with legs.
Haha thanks, and I'm glad you picked up in the little guys appearance... Where possible I try to include my other builds as Easter eggs!
haha awesome stuff! thanks for watching
That is awesome, and your choice of using EVA entirely is so encouraging to me. I've already started making the backrest for two Star Trek TOS bridge chairs, and I decided I would use EVA foam instead of the usual plywood or mdf construction covered in upholstery foam. I just wat to use EVA for the whole build, covered with self-adhesive black vinyl. Thank you so much for this video, it has convinced that I made the right decision. Keeping making precious memories!
Haha awesome man and your project sounds brilliant!! Yes EVA is the way!
You look like a cross between John Krazynski and Timothy Olyfant… you would make an awesome Cobb Vanth! You should do a costume build!
Haha I'll take that! Thanks for watching and you are not the first to tell me this... **Goes off in search of a red jumper**
🤯 WOW! I was that kid too! Thank you for this!
Thank you 😊 so glad it 'spoke to you' 👊👊 thank you for watching!
Lovely memories with your father 👍👍
The best! Thanks for watching 👊
What a fantastic build! What a fantastic vid! You made me tear up with nostalgia-I remember sitting with those same catalogs and pouring over them...and wanting to...well, do what you just did! I raise my glass of blue milk to you sir! Great job!
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it and I must say the comments really do show that many people share a similar nostalgic story! Thanks for watching and commenting 👊
Awesome build. And I cannot believe it’s all out of foam! Simply amazing
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Glad you like it mate 👊
Great build! I was really surprised by the structural integrity of the foam when building the framework, as an upholsterer I would of gone for a plywood base and built the other layers on top.
Loved the style of the video and the nostalgia with your Dad
Keep up the fantastic work 👏
Thank you!
Second time through, absolutely love this.. nearly brought a tear to my eye with your storytelling here.. well done my friend..
Thank you so much buddy means a lot and thanks for the second run!!
Beautiful James. Your dad would be so proud 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 far exceeds expectations 😊😊😊😊
Thanks man, it really means so much, I like to think he would be 🙂
James that was amazing mate! You've given me a really great video idea for my channel about what I can do with all the copious amounts of EVA foam I see lying around at the dump. Thanks for putting this together, not only are you a crafty padawan but your video editing skills are brilliant also. Now I just need to find space for a bench around my house. Cheers mate 👍
Hey! Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment, it's always great when viewers pick up on the video editing too as I really love that aspect as much as the prop build! Will you share what you build?!
@@RebelBaseBuilds absolutely mate. If I build it I'll definitely be doing a series of videos around it. I started my channel last year. I agree, I like the video editing process as well and can see my own videos improving over time.
I've subscribed so look forward to many more of your creations 🙂
Really well done. I’m usually not a fan of foam builds, but here it definitely makes sense.
Thank you very much!
Incredible build. The attention to detail whilst simultaneously straying from the 'screen accuracy' is off the scale. I am confident that everyone who sees the bench will register it as 'that one from the Millennium Falcon.' The control panels really bring it to life.
I have no doubt that your dad would be very proud and very pleased with your work.
The Force will be with you. . . . . . . always.
You know, it's fantastic to read comments like this, firstly thanks so much for watching and taking the time to feedback. I spent a lot of time figuring out the design to do just as you described, capture the falcon whilst also making it mine, so it's fab you picked up on that, honestly thank for commenting 👊👊 may the force be with you too...
WOW...greate !!!
Now build the rest of the Falcon 😀
Haha I'll get right on it!
This turned out freaking awesome. Great job man.
Cheers mate!
Absolutely awesome what you achieve with foam! Fantastic build
looking forward to seeing the rest of the room👍 keep up the great work James
Thanks for stopping by, I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
All I can say is OUTSTANDING my friend simply amazing
Thanks matey! I'm really pleased you like it!!
Amazing, keep going back to watch!
Thank you! Will do!
IM SO GLAD I FOUND YOUR CHANNEL! I have a future plan to do a star war themed room - but all the room builders i found were american, so alot of the products they spoke about i couldnt get. but being from UK i am so pumped. plus your content is awesome!!!
So glad you did! Welcome aboard 👊
That's brilliant dude, well done. If I had room in the workshop I'd make one too but I don't. Maybe a single seat.
Thank you so much man, yeah do it!! And then share the video haha
I do need some desk chairs, that could be an idea!
Emotional video and amazing result. great job
Thank you, glad people are picking up on the emotion, the videos are as much about the build as it is the thought process and this really for me in the feels 🙂
Awesome, the production and editing are frickin impressive, talented guy 👌. Hope you're well buddy.
Hey mate! So nice to see a comment from you, glad you checked it out and thanks for watching and commenting 👊👊
Awesome channel and props to your dad😁🍻👍

Just gorgeous.
Thanks!!
What you have created is shear magic! Where do I begin? First of all the bench came out great. I really enjoy watching it all come together. Wonderful video and I appreciate those Star Wars flashbacks as well. Overall, a fantastic experience!
Dude, thank you so much for picking up on those aspects. I'm really hyped you like it! I guess the Empire could use a YT part under cover maybe...
What a great build. I have always thought the greeblies in the seat back were odd, but it made me think that would be a neat spot to put USB charging ports.
Thanks for watching, sounds like a great update to me 🙂
It’s been a journey brother. I’m SO happy for you that the dream got realized! GREAT JOB DUDE.
Hasn't it man! Thanks dude its great to have you on the journey
You beat me to it!
Beautifully detailed, brilliant results!!
Thank you so much thank you for watching it means a lot
This was beautiful & has me all teared up.
It was pretty emotional!! Thanks for watching and commenting 👊😁
This build is fantastic. You should be very pleased also on a sidenote I'm really surprised that there was no need for a wooden frame under the foam of the seat, great job
Thanks! Yeah I'm so pleased to get this part complete, and yeah the foam holds up so well!
My dad was the projectionist at our small town cinema, he came home one night and told me I have to go and see this movie Star Wars the next night, I was only 9 and had been scared by a war film before and didn't want to go, so he said I could watch it from up in the projection booth with him. After the opening shot when the Star Destroyer went over, I ran from the projection booth down to the cinema front row seats. He screened it for me and a few friends in an impromptu midday matinee for just the six of us. The movie means so much to me and is such a link to my Dad who I lost when I was 17. I'm going to attempt this build, how is it holding up 8 months later?
Wow, I bloody love this comment. Love how SW enhances those family links 👊, thanks it's holding up great, check the Podcast 'The Almost Star Wars Show' you'll see me sitting on it every episode 👊😀
Beautiful video and you did a fantastic job on that bench!
Thank you, so kind!
OK now that was awesome.. got a tear in my eye :)
VERY nice! Just the perfect amount of weathering, too, IMO. Bravo!
Thank you, totally less is best
Fantastic work! What a joy to watch!
Thank you so much!
Amazing! Simply... amazing!
Thank you very much!
Fantastic love it love love it.
Can I come over and sit at it?
Lol brilliant good work

Amazing video James (and build), good to see you and the family today. Great channel...I have subscribed...keep it going!
Hey John, thanks for watching! Yes lovely day, we all had fun. Cheers!
The video and your work is just amazing. I can't thank you enough for sharing your build and your story with us! I too think, that your dad would be really proud of you.
Enjoy your bench! .. Now it's time for the Kenobi series and 2nd season of the Mandalorian 😉
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Yeah I can wait for those shows!!!
I would love to have plans for the Falcons seat build thinking about doing it for my outside fire pit
Hey, all plans are available over on The Rebel Base Build Patreon 👍☺️
Looks amazing mate, a little jealous I dont have the space to build my own.
Thanks man! Yeah it's not small haha, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 👊
That looks Really Awesome!!!
Thank you!!
Oh my god 😱 Thats amazing🙏🏼 I wanna make it too some day😁 maybe in a Camper, cause that would be interesting 😂
Thank you! Yes do it, sounds a great idea haha!
Absolutely amazing James!! Everything about this is just incredible! Well done my friend!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome build!
Thanks !
Sooooooo Very Cool!
Absolutely amazing work bro!! Can’t help but be jealous of the talent you have. You need to make a Proton pack or ghost trap next... not Star Wars I know, but equally awesome!! X

I think of it, if you had a YT-1300 light freighter and you saw the Millennium Falcon interior, how would you recreate it for YOU. Like if you had the same car as your neighbor, how would you make your car yours, not his, or hers.

Haha thanks, sure let's do it haha
thanks! haha
Stunning! Great edit! Is there a wooden frame, or just lots of foam?
Thanks!! Yes all foam! All that you see in the video, added a criss cross foam under each seat but it's very robust! ☺️ And light so I should be able to take it as a set to the cons 👊 thanks so much for watching!
Surprising and very cool😊
About a few weeks off finishing my full size r2 so i got doe this next found the downloads for plans just dont know what size paper to print out templates:)
I have the plans hosted on my Patreon for free, I also added them to the SW room builders group on FB! Awesome looking forward to seeing your R2!
That's epic! It's the base structure mdf? Or is that all foam??
Thanks!!, that's all HD foam, just lots of it, lol it's solid as a rock 👊
That looks fantastic! I'm totally inspired! How is the stability with foam as the base? Rigid enough that you won't worry about it giving way?
Thanks! Yeah it's amazingly robust!
thanks! yeah it's totally fine, holding up well!
Hey James, do you have any general guidelines for what settings to use on the laser to cut EVA foam? Speed, power, frequency? Thanks!
As these are low powered I set it on the slowest speed and highest power setting, for 10mm it still take a few passess 🙂
What do you use as a sealant to protect your paint job?
I use a clear mat acrylic spray thanks for watching 👊
Well done. How is the bench holding up with wear and tear? I would be concerned with the plastidip paint rubbing off and getting on people's clothes, when they sit.
Thanks for watching! Oh it's fine we sit in it all the time, it's very robust, as for the plastidip it was applied very thick and then sprayed with a matt sealant so no issues so far 👌😁😊
How many coats of plasti dip did you apply? New fan all the way from Charleston, SC.
Wowzers! Welcome and thanks, 2 thick coats over a primer 👊
Ayo what?! My teacher is there?!
Hi Nathan! Thanks for your watching 👊
I'm assuming since you made the whole thing out of foam it is quiet light in weight.
How heavy of a person will it hold?
Thanks, yeah the foam layers work really well together to create rigidity, I'm 6foot 3 and way over 16 stone! It takes me and my two young kids just fine 🙂. Thanks for watching and commenting, means a lot!
I guess with Dave, he meant Filoni?
Was actually an in joke aimed at a watcher who was messing with me about slow room build progress haha
@@RebelBaseBuilds ok, I understand... But I guess you still love Dave Filoni as much as I do? And I am sure Dave Filoni would totally love that project 😉😁
