The co pilot is my uncle, hariyadi gunawan, he passed away in 2017 in jakarta, RS polri kramat jati. A very humble person, rides his old rusty yamaha force 1 to mosque everyday, visits family and friends everyday, to find out if theres anyone in need for food or need money to go to doctor or if their children needs money for school..., when he passed away, we found many photographs of my late father (his elder brother) under his shirt in his cupboard, who passed away in 1994...he always missed him, now they both gone,i lost 2 good men of my life...

Later in an interview capt. Rozaq said before the plane hit the water he was praying. He had already thought that it was time to go, but he tried to land it till the end. Then he had a vision of a long line on the water, telling it was where he should land the plane. He also said that the river's depth varied from deep & shallow and he was very lucky that he landed on the shallow point. Truly an amazing story.
The only one who died was a flight attendant, namely Santi Anggraeni.
Fyi the flight number 421 is still in service today but it has a different route; it flies between Ngurah Rai airport Denpasar & Soekarno-Hatta airport Cengkareng whereas previously flew from Mataram to Jogjakarta.
The survivors hold a reunion with capt. Rozaq every year and there's an article about the 2013 reunion. Not everyone involved was present at that time but the crash strongly connects the people who barely knew each other before the flight. They still keep in touch to this day.

    1. Actually, the pilot planned to land it on some sort of field but abort the plan since there were some village kids played soccer on the field at that time.
    2. The pilot land the plane opposite the flows. Means, the plane actually had a time to turn so it opposite the flows of the river. By landing opposite the flow, it will help to stop the plane.

Yup alhamdulilallh . Muslims have a prayer they say when they travel by airplane or any transportation. The Book of Etiquette of Traveling : Ibn 'Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: Whenever the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) mounted his camel for setting out on a journey, he would recite: "Allahu Akbar (Allah is Greatest)," thrice. Then he (ﷺ) would supplicate: "Subhanal-ladhi sakh-khara lana hadha, wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin, wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqalibun. Allahumma inna nas'aluka fi safarina hadh al-birra wat-taqwa, wa minal-'amali ma tarda. Allahumma hawwin 'alaina safarana hadha, watwi 'anna bu'dahu. Allahumma Antas-Sahibu fissafari, wal-Khalifatu fil- ahli. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min wa'ta'is-safari, wa kaabatil- manzari, wa su'il-munqalabi fil-mali wal-ahli wal-waladi (Far removed from imperfection is the One Who has made this subservient to us, for we have no power to subjugate it, and certainly to our Rubb shall we return. O Allah, we ask You during this journey of ours for righteousness, piety and such deeds as are pleasing to You. O Allah, make easy for us this journey of ours and make the distance short for us. O Allah, You are our Companion during the journey and the Guardian of the family and the property in our absence. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of travelling, unhappiness connected with ghastly scenes and evil turns in property and family)." When he returned, he recited this supplication making addition of these words: "Ayibuna, ta'ibuna, 'abiduna, li-Rabbina hamidun (We are those who return; those who repent; those who worship and those who praise our Rubb)."

The ones ditching in rivers had much more success in terms of fatalities than those that ditched in the ocean. Interesting stuff.

I saw this episode and the failure modes are incorrect. I was the equipment manager for 737 engine air turbine starters at the time and have designed APUs for both the 737 and 757.
ALL commercial jet engines (except the 787) are started with air turbine starters, not electric motors. The source of compressed air comes from the Auxiliary Power Unit mounted in the tail and only useful below 20,000 feet, the opposite running engine, a ground cart, or in flight, by ram air spinning the low pressure fan (also below 20,000 feet). This is an FAA requirement and I've seen it done on test flights.
APUs have an electric starter, powered by a totally separate NiCad battery in the heated, pressurized aft cargo compartment, so repeated ram-air starts of the main engines would have zero effect on the APU battery.
What I think happened is that that pilots failed to turn on the engine ignitors (spark plugs) before entering foul weather, to ensure the fire doesn't go out. They also didn't give the engines enough time to start--it could take minutes, not 30 seconds to get a fire going and reach 50% minimum sustainable N1 idle speed. And engines are started one at a time, not simultaneously, since 737s can fly (and take off) easily with only one engine.
The APU didn't start because its battery was defective and was cold-soaked after an hour in -40F temps (the battery is in a heated enclosure). That had absolutely NO effect on restarting the main engines.
I suspect the NTSB report got things right. Too bad the TV show misled so many.

It's incredible that almost all of passengers still alive

    • @v12ts.gaming
      @v12ts.gaming Před rokem

      things to clarify:
      1. "plus the dead engine" Both G421 and US1549 had its engines flameout, so it's not just the former.
      2. "almost all of passengers still alive" All of the passengers are alive, some having injuries. The person who died is a cabin crew, named Santi Anggraeni, so she doesn't count as a "passenger".

heres a comment someone posted fr you to explain why the sully landing is more popular than this:
*what makes sully's landing more incredible is that he lost both engines at a lower altitude than any jet in history, and he had way more people and he had seconds to take a decision, and muhammad said sully had radio contact, its because he turned on the APU "auxiliary power unit" theres a check list that you need to follow when you loose bouth engines, those pilots didnt do that (im taking off of this video I havent reed the report) but sully tried but they had almost no speed or altitude left, plus he was over NYC a really big city so one wrong thing and he could have killed hundreds, so sully was still better becuase les altitude, less speed, more people, and in a verry crowded area, plus it was in the winter they could have died from hypothermia because of the water.*
