      It's not just Carlsen is that strong, but styles and compatibility also exist in chess. For example, Ding Liren is a strong player who is a threat to even Magnus, but he has a loosing record against weaker player like Hikaru which both he and Hikaru admits to.

      @droceretik Před 5 lety +1

      I don't know why you are so biased for Indian players. Last time I checked, India was 76th on the per capita list of chess rankings. If I were an Indian chess enthusiast I wouldn't be talking about it too much. With a population of over 1 billion people there should be a lot more.

    • @supergamer1972
      @supergamer1972 Před 5 lety +4

      @@droceretik It is wrong of you to call it a bias, would you not support your own country's participants even if they are not performing well? Why, there are a lot of young great Indian players. There's Praggnanandhaa, Nithin Sarin, Baskaran Adhiban. India came 4th in the World Team Championship which is a pretty impressive feat for someone who you say are "76th on the per capita list of chess rankings"

    • @ankan064
      @ankan064 Před 5 lety +2

      @@droceretik The per capita list will always be biased towards smaller population nations. If a nation like Brunei or The Bahamas produce even 1 GM, that would be more "per capita player" than India producing 3000 GMs. Although, the difference in the number of registered active players may not be huge. It's not at all indicative of strength of chess nations.
      If you are going to find something similar , you should look for number of registered players per titled player of a country. Even then it's not accurate, as a nation with mostly young players will have a lot of under-rated players that may become titled in a few years.

      It's an old gambit with an established refutation at the grandmaster level. Kasparov played it once against Anand, but since then, and particularly since really good engine analysis, it's not likely that black will fail to play the refutation, and that just leaves them up a pawn.
      I'm sure they still analyze lines of it from time to time, but clearly no one has thought they found a true novelty.

    I don’t understand how or why GMs prepare 34 move opening variations when there’s normally a new game after 10-15 moves. Please someone enlighten me.

      Anand himself admitted he had a lost game, Mamedyarov lost because of time trouble. This is what Anand said after the game: ""This position is just lost. It's just completely busted. I am playing for the only trap; I just got lucky with this one trick,"
