Thank you for the knowledge and insights. I’ve been licensed and insured here in Clearwater FL for just over a month. I’ve got 8 inspections under my belt. I learn something every time. I’ve been doing a lot of marketing in the Pinellas County area. But I have come to realize agents are loyal to their inspectors. I’ve been working on ideas to combat this loyalty. These guys over here work 24/7 365. So it’s tough to only get in when they are not working. We have to be super creative to overcome.
Thanks for watching Juston! No doubt, it's not easy and it's going to require a lot of hustle and perseverance. I would consider joining a team. You'll have business, learn disclosures, accumulate tools, become familiar with good and efficient processes as well as what things not to do. You'll move forward much faster. Do that for 5 years and then consider if you want to continue w the team or go back out on your own. I'd also recommend joining FABI, the Florida Association of Building Inspections. There's actually a conference in St Pete in a few weeks. You'll be able to develop some good relationships and get some good education. Hope you can make it!
@@fredpenner5667 that's true and most people will make mistakes because they simply don't know what they don't know. I was self employed for 30 years. Wish I knew then what I know now.

Many answers there Sonny. If you subscribe to the same Standards as everyone else, you provide no distinct value and you are a commodity and therefore you must compete on price. If you starve your business, it cannot grow. Elevate your standards, obtain credentials like a B1, take advanced classes. Do things that others don't in your area...mold testing, assessing or remediation, sewer scoping, tie downs, house monitoring, etc etc. What if you could provide a report immediately on site? What if you started doing multi-unit inspections? Good question, keep asking, keep exploring.

The level of ridiculous is at an all-time high with consumers and agents. I would highly recommend working w a team for 5 years and make a decision to go out on your own at that point. You'll then have time to accumulate the tools you'll need wo a big cash expenditure up front, you'll learn software, disclosures, processes, structure, technology, etc while limiting your own liability and protecting what can be a fragile reputation within the industry. Best of luck my friend!

Hi John, do you think I could be a handyman and an inspector? or would this be selling myself short? I am a one man show, currently just starting out to be a home inspector. I do not even have my license yet for the State of Illinois. I remember that when I bought my own house, there were about $1,000 of repairs that had to be made based on the home inspection. Can I do the repairs as a handyman that I called out on the home inspection report, or would this be a conflict of interest? Thank you, Jeremy Stuart
Hey my friend, the HI business is a great one. Your experience as a handyman will actually serve you well! I have always taught in my classes is that you need to look beyond colors, textures and the obvious...you need to see studs, wires, fire blocking, pipes, etc. You are right on track! I would highly recommend joining a team and I am friends with Charles Belefontain and Tim Wojnar in your area, i can hook you up.

I would feel it out my peripherals of how much they didn't want me there and would shy away from me because of my gender. After a few months of Electricians Math the professor left a question on the board and I walked in a little late because I had three jobs at the time going to night class with little ones to tend to. I get there a little late professors not in yet the guys were freaking out in a huddle talking amongst themselves all of them already in the field as their regular jobs me having no experience period. Me alone at table trying to solve before professor comes in. I tried to solve in my book then went to the board to put my answer on board next to the many others. The guys were talking about me so badly (my solve solution) I tried to explain how I got the answer, but they just disagreed and talked over me. Professors walks in and points to my answer and says out loud and loudly " who did this?" with such a tone that everyone stopped talking and sat down and pointed to me. Then he looked at me and his facial expression changed and said did you do this? I said yes Sr. He then smiled and said " why do u look so doubtful this is the only answer up here that is correct with a smile" Told me to stop doubting myself and gave me a small lecture in front of the class and we continued the class. I was doubting myself because they 9the men) were filling me with doubt from their actions and words, their experiences when I had none. From then on the guys tried to buy me lunch, sit at my table and during test from then on, I would be the one quickly covering my test and laughing. That is incredibly valuable information, thank you. I have a question for you, I’ve made a career change after 30 years. Do you think it is hard to find a job in home inspection after passing the certification test without experience?
Well it really depends. Attempting a new career by yourself and competing w established firms, it won't be easy. I was self employed from 1991 to 2022 and yet I would not recommend embarking on this career as a solo entrepreneur. Too many things have changed including a very unreasonable society.
