    Episode 1: Get Lost in Woodstock
    Woodstock, Vermont is one of the quaintest, most picturesque towns in the world---and disclaimer: it is also my hometown. But trust me, this Rockefeller town has a walking village filled with boutique shops, a center town green, an iconic covered bridge, and nearby working farm-Billings Farm--all of which looks charming in the green summers or snowy winters. The Woodstock Inn & Resort is the backbone of the time, and has been popular with locals & tourists for years.

    Woodstock is indeed one of America's gems, and the prettiest town in VT, albeit, a bit loved to death in fall.

      Haha great way to put it. Growing up there, the fall was always so crazy and very hard to drive anywhere!

    I feel Vermont is the prettiest place in the world. I just love it. I plan to move there soon as I can. I love the fall colors and the mountains and snow just everything about it. Thanks so much for the video of Woodstock.

      +Jàdà Kees Yes, it's beautiful, scenery wise. But the people there are very unwelcoming to outsiders, who they refer to as flatlanders. Only ones who were born there get to call themselves Vermonters. Elitist snobbism at it's finest.I recommend, going there on vacation first. You'll see what I mean. "We don't need no flatlanders heah".It's ok to visit in the fall and spend lots of cash, though. Then go home. You're not welcome, flatlander.

      +Jàdà Kees I'm telling you, before you move there, visit first. Then you'll see what snobs they are. In their little universe, they are the only true "Vermonters", because they were born there. You hear it all the time: "4th generation Vermonter" like that earns you a special merit badge or something. Outsiders, or anybody who wasn't born there, are all called "flatlanders", hence, not as good as them. Elitist snobbism at it's finest.

    • @zulucenturion6640
      @zulucenturion6640 Před 8 lety +8

      What's wrong with calling flatlanders what they are? Nobody would have any problems with you if you weren't such an obnoxious dumbass, from what I've seen here. I'm sure the only snobby person here is you, mtntime1. I'm personally friends with people who were born way out west, and I don't really care, as they are respectable people. Even if people here hated people who moved in from other states, I don't know how much I could blame them, as it seems most of them only bring crime, stupidity, and shitty driving.
      Be good people and we will be good people.

    • @mtntime1
      @mtntime1 Před 8 lety +5

      Here's what's wrong. They use "flatlander" as a derogatory term, not as a description of those person's geography. Either you're one of them, a so called "Vermonter" or an outsider (flatlander). Like I said before, elitist snobbism at it's finest. Who needs these snobs, Colorado is more beautiful anyway. And they're not snobs.

    When I was a kid, there were more cows than people in Vermont. As I grew older, I wanted to leave because I wanted to see what the rest of the world had to offer. I have lived in many places and traveled a lot. People are people no matter where you go. Your experiences largely depend upon attitude & behavior. But when it comes right down to it, don't most people feel that there's "no place like home"? I know I do. #Ilovermont‼️😉👍🏻

    • @muffs55mercury61
      @muffs55mercury61 Před 3 lety +3

      Actually not always when it comes to "no place like home". My home town over the years grew out of proportion with the cost of living and the crime soaring into the stratosphere. Virtually all it's history has been destroyed in the so-called name of progress but was really for the land. Phoenix, AZ hasn't been my home for over 30 years and I don't visit it anymore. But yes attitude and behavior do amount to a lot.

    • @mtntime1
      @mtntime1 Před 9 lety +3

      +Ashley Pope I used to think that, too. It all started while watching the opening scenes to Newhart. I thought, what a beautiful place. And it is. But after visiting Vermont, you learn very quickly that they do NOT want any outsiders moving there. They called me a "flatlander" (even though I'm from Colorado!). Elite snobs, they want to keep all that beauty for themselves. But you can go and spend money there on vacation. And I strongly recommend taking a vacation or two there before moving. You'll see what I mean.

      mtntime1 not all of us vermonters are snobs. Some of the mad river valley folks can be as well as people from stowe and a few of the other upperclass towns but most of us are friendly so please stop referring to us as snobs, if you wanna see snobs go to new york lol

    • @JohnStark72
      @JohnStark72 Před 4 lety +3

      @@jasonsulham9495 "not all of us vermonters are snobs." That's because you people from those areas are mostly flatlanders who moved here and bought up our best land. Then, when you die, you bequeath it to the government or Middlebury College.

    • @JohnStark72
      @JohnStark72 Před 4 lety +2

      @special k with a twist State government does not allow industry to thrive here anymore, which pays well. The best paying jobs are in the hands of the flatlanders who moved here.

    • @JohnStark72
      @JohnStark72 Před 4 lety

      @special k with a twist Not so. You generalize, while I mentioned specifics. The job market is tighrt because nearly no industry. What the government allows for business typically requires skills or training that most real Vermonters don't have. And those businesses are owned by flatlanders ( such as Ben & Jerry's). So the likelihood of someone from Boston - or other flatlands - is very high compared to the homegrown citizen.

    My mother and I lived in Woodstock before it was "discovered" (and ruined). I had an English cottage garden at our home on Central Street which many people came to see and I designed many gardens for people in the village. It was me who saved the historic Pumpkin House from burning down when it caught fire in 1984. I did a lot of work for Phillips Farrington at the Historical Society. My mother was friends with Paul who was the police chief in those days. When we left they tore down our house and "remodeled" the Pumpkin House into a gauche tourist trap. I now live in southern Spain.

Whats not noticed at first in Woodstock is all the electricity poles are gone everything is underground so as not to ruin the look. You have Woodstock Inn. Bentleys. Billings Farm. Cheese Factory in Plymouth. Kedron Valley, Woodstock Inn Golf Club and Qeechie Inn just down the road. We don't live in VT but vacation there when we can. Its our first choice.
