The Hikvision stuff is mostly very reliable and well built. I like the features and the ui of the DVRs. You get a lot for your money. I would never install a camera inside my rooms, no matter which brand. 😊
Yes, agree to all points. I've just bought a 16CH DVR advertised as spares or repair, so I'll be doing a video on that at some point.
Well this is surreal that was actually my listing.
I thought it was a bad cable to be fair because it stopped working shortly after moving it and it was installed on a base unit that had limited room or the large HDMI end of this camera.
But not sure how the chip got fried. ABSecure is my small business doing CCTV stuff. While I have stopped fitting Hikvision this was the only camera to go faulty over last 5 years so their decent enough
Thanks Adam👍yes surreal! You might also like the Swann NVR I also recently repaired. If you have any broken CCTV stuff that might make an interesting repair video...
Never boiled sand to make feet... But ive seen people cream duck feathers for a laugh... Only to be told the sky will be over soon.
I used to work for a guy with the last name blunt back about 15 years ago., james blunt.. remember because that was back in my smoking days and thought it was funny smoking a blunt with mr blunt doing landscaping work.. lol..
I do a bit of work for a local CCTV company, both residential and commercial. We won’t install anything except Hik unless a customer specifically requests a manufacturer. The IP cameras do take a minute or 2 to boot up, I believe it’s due to it having to negotiate an IP address via DHCP, if there is no DHCP server (or router to issue address) then it can take a little longer as it broadcasts more than once over the network awaiting a response. They are great cameras. As for the issues relating to the Chinese spying, if they want to watch what happens in my backyard then good on them 😂
Nice 👍I've got 8 cameras up. I actually had one of my own cameras fail about a year ago before I started doing videos and it was a shorted capacitor on the board, been fine since.
They have backdoors that allow remote code execution, poor security, and are often used as botnet nodes. I do industrial CCTV, and avoid Hik/Dahua. They also have shit housing seal tolerances and get waterlogged after a few years.
The company I work with have been installing them for longer then me and I’ve been using them for approx 8 years, neither of us ever had an issue with water ingress. Maybe we have been lucky 😊
HiKvision is on the banned items list. But good news! There is a way for you to get basically the same camera without the spyware! Hikvision is copying the cameras made by truvision, a american company with roots back to GE. Its funny to see how they copy down to the design of the plastic shield taken off in this video. Even the software is almost looking the same. I have wanted to buy one of these and try uploading the firmware from an TruVision camera - since they are copied down to the smallest of components anyways.
Hope you had a great Christmas and new year, been looking forward to seeing a video since last year but it was worth the wait. I would feel sorry for the poor Chinese person who would have to sit a watch the feed from my house. Looking forward to seeing a lot more in 2023
Thanks Morten. Yeah it's been a bit hectic here last few weeks with Christmas and a few different things hence only just getting back to doing some videos. I've got the automatic gearbox pulled out of my car currently to do the crankshaft oil seal and also had to go to the hospital a few times (still ongoing), because I seem to have developed kidney stones. I also bought a few items that were advertised as faulty but when I started recording they appear to work fine.
@@BuyitFixit hope you'll get better soon, from what I hear kidny stones aren't fun. Yes faulty items are required if you want to make videos. Sound like you got your work cut out for you with all the things needed to be done on the cars
Thanks Morten. Yeah not fun. Wifes car started acting up with an ABS fault yesterday too. Had diagnostics on it today and it's the rear right ABS sensor so I've got that to sort out now too!
Good job on the troubleshooting. Nice that device types/numbers are still printed on IC devices. I've used that reverse engineering trick too, fortunately the internet is the resource it is in finding the datasheet with pinout and description too.
Good to know these camera’s can possibly be repaired, we get a lot of bad ones and out of warranty so in a pinch I could do this, benefits of working with electronics and being an electronics engineer, can fix the stuff you work with
Nice work. Congraz. I am retired senior electronic maintenance engineer and have done this same in a large TV broadcasting company since the 80’s when Ampex-Nagra made 2” video tape recorder VPR-5 😍and it had SMD components. Today’s service persons don’t want or can do this kind of things which is a pity as EU is going to launch a law that electronics must be serviceable. And who’s going to fix them when nobody cannot even change IC protect fuse.
Thanks, I used to work repairing video games and fruit machines back in the late 80's and always like computers and repairing stuff. I used to fix TVs as a hobby too. I know a bit about hardware and software like when I repaired a solar inverter (video on here) and then I needed a service password to adjust a setting and the company said it's an obsolete model and buy a new one. I didn't give up as I had already repaired it! So I reverse engineered their software and worked out how to generate passwords myself 😂😂😂 I did a video on that too 👍
Another great video and nice repair. Go you have any news on the intercom ??
Fantastic fix. Another item saved from landfill.
You're a man after my own heart, using a flat blade screwdriver, especially the good old VDE voltage tester, for philips screws, I do that all the time, cos I can never seem to find the correct size philips screwdriver. For some reason you can get better grip on the screws with the flat blade, at least that's what I tell myself. 🤣🤣
Like the you went back in time to the 01/01/1970 why the date starts then? Nice fix quick easy.
Yes 😂😂😂The software on the camera is linux based. The epoch (default start time from which it counts) is that exact date. So if it thinks 0 years, days, and seconds have passed that is the date you will see 🙂👍
@@BuyitFixit lol 5 months and two days before I was born. My dad remembers it well he was an Ops manager on IBM/ICL machines.
What does the chip you replaced actually do? PoE is usually 48V so is it a controller for the DC DC buck converter that provides 12V?
From the datasheet it seems to limit the current and output a power good signal to the DC to DC converter.
I had exactly the same TI chip and the capacitor in the back. Replaced these and all good. Problem was that chip sold in min order qty of 300pcs...
I no longer use Hikvision at any of my installations. Overall, they were decent quality, but nothing compared with the Axis.
Little surprised you didn't just touch up those solder joints on the IC just to quickly eliminate that as a possible source of the problem.
I can't remember what they were like, sometimes the microscope light shows what appear to be dry joints but they are just shadows.
I had an older one, same brand.
Mine did not have a slot for extra memory, but for a sim-card.
No HDMI, but a BNC, power in and ethernet was on mine..
Interesting, first time I've came across one with HDMI output, all the rest I have just have a 12v input and ethernet. The 12v input is optional if you aren't using POE.
Hi, thank you for this wonderful video. It's good to know that camera are repairable. I have one that was damaged by a power surge induce voltage from 230 VAC power line cable that was next to the ethernet cable. Is it possible to find and order a complete motherboard?
Thanks 👍I doubt it they sell parts. You may be able to find a faulty one on Ebay to use for parts?
@@BuyitFixit Thank you. How did you check to be sure that TPS2376-H Power controller was faulty? Was it short citcuited?
@@asv5769 There wasn't the correct voltage coming out of it if I remember. I'm sure I measure it on the video.
Man that chip did an awful lot of work lol
Always Good morning trouble
I have 5 Hikvisions of various models installed for video surveilance. So far, they have been very reliable as cameras. Hikvision's software is garbage though. I use Blue Iris as an NVR instead.
I wonder what could have caused the PoE power chip to die. My guess it was likely some kind of power surge.
The guy I bought it from on Ebay stumbled across the video and left a comment 😂
Friends don't let friends fix hikvision cameras. Except with a sledge hammer.
The small 4 pin connector is a video out to help aim the camera.
Thanks for that. I was wondering what the connector was for. I wasn't sure if it was some kind of debug port.
Should also point out that there are 4 (at last count) versions of PoE.
Name IEEE Standard Max. Power per Port
PoE IEEE 802.3af 15.4 W
PoE+ IEEE 802.3at 30 W
PoE++ IEEE 802.3bt (Type 3) 60 W
PoE++ IEEE 802.3bt (Type 4) 100 W
So ... make sure you have the right capabilities on the switch when dealing with PoE devices.
Never boiled sand to make feet... But ive seen people cream duck feathers for a laugh... Only to be told the sky will be over soon.
I would assume a small device like a POE camera comes in at power consumption something well under 15.4 Watts even?
Hikvison bought Pyronix in Rotherham so their items maybe be rebranded HiK nowadays

remove usb conection,turn wire round,
Well yes everything is hacked so you just have to assume that now adays. Like a guy at work said the other day we are wayyy past 1984 now. Lol everything in that book is already in existence and much worse heh
@BuyitFixit it was a dream of mine to write something very secure but then i realized it would be so complicated that only a few would want to use it lol
Add a firewall rule to the router? Allow no outside access to or from the LAN except your laptop, desktop, on fixed IP addresses? Que?
What's a power over ethenet hobe?
I thought they were making fun of my accent 😂 . Another name would be a POE switch. It's like a normal ethernet switch, but is capable of supplying power too, using 'Power over ethernet '

Ah, Chinese state-owned manufacturer HIKvision -- banned by various governments from secure sites.
I wonder if any US manufacturers like Intel would have any back doors in their products 🤔
E L R O N
Why did the camera say 1970 year?
Probably the internal backup battery for the time went flat. The system runs linux and the default linux epoch is 1 / 1 / 1970.
double shet it,
twinkle the wires
I swear this dude has to have a house full of random stuff piled up or a big ole shed full of shit,,.
Now the Chinese can settle in to an evening's entertainment watching everything you do! 😁
I'm sure it would make thrilling viewing 😂😂😂
