The story I heard about his childhood in Hollywood that impressed me wasn’t mentioned here. It was I believe the 1994 Oscar ceremony-Macauley Culkin was supposed to present an award, but his dad Kit got it in his head a week before the show to demand more than the scale fee that all of the presenters were contracted to receive. The producers told him what to do with his demands and got on the phone with Elijah’s mom to see if he could fill in. They agreed and the producers sent over his lines, hoping he could be ready for the dress rehearsal in a few days. He nailed his delivery both then and on the big night, and word spread around town how utterly professional both Elijah and his mom were and how he vastly exceeded expectations with his performance. It really helped further his career by giving him a solid rep in a company town where that good word of mouth is golden.

It's mindblowing that Maccauley actually was thrown off a real cliff (and not a stunt-double or some other SFX means). I mean in other words, it wasn't bluescreen compositing.

I mean a ten-something year old doing that kind of stunt work (even on wires, harnesses, descender thingy that controls the fall descent).

I'm the guy who drew that lion. Christina Ricci knows. It made me super happy. I was 19 working in a vestibule in NY. Her tattoo was my drawing. Very simple and quick.

My fav films with him - beside LOTR - were Ice Storm, Huck Finn, Radio Flyer and the Good Son. Those movies showed the spectrum of his abilities from those early times. Ice Storm shows that he can play complicated, sad and alienated persons, Huck Finn shows that he can play in comedy and has talent for comedic topics and joyful topics, to be funny but without ridiculing of his role, Radio Flyer shows that he can play heroic charachters, protectors of the weak, striving to a goal, and the Good Son shows how a noble movie charachter can steal the show from a villain's charachter :) All these movies show that he was able to gather all these bits together to play the ultimate hero in LOTR :)

The War.In the summer of 1993,a casting call for the other kid roles were held in Tupelo,Ms. I was one of 5 picked to audition, out of at least 100 kids. Needless to say,I wasn't interested and gave fake name, address, and phone number on the contact forms we were given. The role ultimately went to a pair of identical twins. To this day,I don't regret it.
