I can't even tell you how much I learned throughout the process of making these shelves. Maybe the best thing I learned was how much I enjoyed it! I would be up at midnight doing a final coat of poly or at the hardware store excited about 1500 grit sand paper. I often get asked "where did you learn to do that?!" and the answer is always the internet! I read a lot of blogs and watched a bunch of videos! Here are some videos I found particularly helpful:

I am honestly way more into this bright colour chaos than I am into the sorted-by-colour look. This also has the advantage of looking like you could actually use it, while the sorted-by-colour way seems to me like pure anarchistic hell.

This might sound stupid but these house renovation videos of yours make me feel like I'm incredible and that anything is possible. Just by watching you tackle this house little by little. I'm not really one to be easily inspired but these videos are such a deep, penetrative inspiration and comfort at the same time. So I want to say thank you, and I am so grateful for all the time you put into making these videos for us, seriously

I LOVE the colour on the trim and door. What a fun way to get a pop of colour into a room without it overwhelming the space. Absolutely fantastic idea. Also the shelves are STUNNING. What a wonderful space you’ve created for yourself. ❤️

When I moved from California to Kentucky, i could only being about half of my collection. I donated close to 100 books to a new highschool English teacher for her in class library, and though I was sad to see them go, I was glad they had the possibility to spark some inspiration to read in some kids 😁
Hahaha I moved from California to Kentucky and had to get rid of 3/4 of my books too! 🥺 still a lot of heavy books though lol

Awesome! My grandma is 82 and doesn’t have internet or even a smartphone, so she has many thousands of books. So many bookshelf cabinets everywhere. And her house is only a 2 bed 1 bath with 2 living rooms. A lot of hers are related to farming, cooking, gardening, history, and children’s books. I don’t have a ton of books, but still a good amount, so now you’ve got my wheels turning for book storage solutions in my future house.

Before I bought my house, I had to squish in a small apartment for 8 months and there was no room for my books! I'm not ashamed to say that when I finally moved into my big house and unpacked all my books and art pieces, I wept with joy.

I recently attempted to do shelves like this. Once I got started and realized how hard it was to get the shelves even with the brackets I gave up, plastered the holes I put in my wall, and repainted! 😂😂😂 I wish I had your talent! I almost had a mental breakdown trying to get those shelves up. Yours look GORGEOUS!
Can I just say I love the lavender/lilac baseboards and door trim? So pretty and ethereal. And I'm usually not a fan of open shelves, but yours do look phenomenal.

I also really love how she's sharing little projects along her renovation process. A lot of reno channels just show the before and after with a big gap in between the construction time. These are fun simple projects that aren't on the internet like redoing a closet, or making a bookshelf wall or a FRAME haul!! I love it so much ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

My favourite colour is purple. Didn't dare paint my wall purple (or my door or my bookshelf or my study table). But recently i painted one wall in my bedroom purple! And it's because i see how pretty your place looks with purple accents!!! I LOVE IT! Next up: built-in bookshelf instead of my...typical store bought one ☺️

Okay, details. Last year I also got my place too and built THE bookshelves I always wanted. Wasn't sure how to decorate/arrange them. I was seeing a lot of pics with plants on bookshelves but, stupid me thought those only looked good on Pintrest and are for people who don't REALLY read. But oh my God, do I love all those vines caressing my books and it breaks up the kinda boring lines. They are pretty easy to maintain as well.

😫 I cant wait for mine to be finished! We started on the demo of the library - 2.5 years after moving in. My books have been in boxes the first two year in this house. Progress is unfortunately very slow due to my (and my partner-in crime's) physical restriction. I hope, hope, hope to be finished by December!
I was great to see how another book nerd did their custom library. I have a slanted wall on one side, so I have a lot more measuring and cutting to do, but this just got me excited about the project - again!

what are your thoughts on the brackets vs the shelving standard tracks since you’ve had them both?
A fantastic question. The main benefit of the tracks is that you can customize your shelves if you suddenly want a different layout. But what I realized after having the tracks for a year is that I would never actually change them, haha! I would just rather add another shelf to a different wall or room in a house as opposed to shoving more shelves! Personally I like how the brackets look more, they look more stately to me, so I love this design! Also I realized I should have said this in the video maybe but both the tracks and the brackets MUST go on to STUDS books are too heavy otherwise!! That's why the middle brackets on my shelves are actually a bit to the left and not centered! So much more important that my books don't come crashing down than it looking symmetrical!!!!

This has reminded me that I want to do a shelf above my bedroom door. I have a very small house with small rooms, and a menace of a tuxedo cat. A shelf that runs the length of that wall above the door frame will be just perfect for paperbacks and knickknacks. Thanks!

I know the micro manager of bookshelves. When my husband built me a half a wall bookshelf. I had to decide which books I had to donate because I had more books then I had room on the shelf. It is hard giving up my “babies” but they went to “little libraries” , children’s ward in a hospital, and veterans hospital.
