General Shivdev Singh Diwan Gurbachan Singh Khalsa College, Patiala is one of the leading institutes of higher education in the state of Punjab. It has carved its niche in providing holistic education to students to enable them to confront myriad challenges in the various walks of life. The institution has always strived to give opportunity to students to exhibit their creativity and enhance their academic skills. The vision of the college is "Strive for Perfection and Settle for Excellence". It is a matter of pride that NAAC, Bangalore Re-accredited the institution with 'A' Grade (3.18 CGPA) in June, 2022 acknowledging its merit and credibility. The Institution was granted the status of 'A College with Potential for Excellence'and Autonomous Statusby U.G.C. New Delhi in 2016. The college has been selected for STAR STATUS Scheme in 2020 by DBT, Govt. of India. The DMC and the Degree is awarded to the students by Punjabi University, Patiala, and the affiliating university.
The college is continuously proliferating under able and worthy S. Harjinder Singh Dhami, President, SGPC Sri Amritsar Sahib and able guidance of S. Surjit Singh Ji Rakhra honorary secretary of college governing body. The institution has 20.5 acres of urban land at Badungar Road Patiala, 18.5 acres of land at village Dhablan and 36 acres at Bahadurgarh, Patiala. The campus is home to 5600 students and 200 faculty members and an efficient team of supporting staff. The Institute is reputed for its state-of-the-art modern infrastructure, well stocked library, advanced technology labs, science labs, smart classrooms, well equipped gymnasium, Auditorium playgrounds and Wi-Fi campus. The institution also has a homely Mata Gujri Girls Hostel with a capacity to house 350 girl studentswhere students from Punjab and many other states are residing in hygienic and convivial atmosphere. Dr. Ganda Singh Career Guidance, Counseling and Placement Centre has been working with a purpose to train and provide job opportunities to students and has an excellent and enviable track record for placements.
Presently the institution is running programmes in Humanities, Science, Computer Science, Agriculture, Food Processing, Commerce and Management. The institution is sensitive to the need of innovative research, for this purpose it has setup a Campus for Research and Advanced Studies at village Dhablan near Patiala. It is successfully running 19 Postgraduate and 32 Undergraduate courses & 23 Certificate courses (120-150 hrs). It is also running innovative programs under the U.G.C. scheme. The college was selected by U.G.C. to run community college under which two programmes - Advanced Diploma in Green House Technology and Auto Electrical and Electronics are being run effectively and efficiently. Khalsa College is one of the 47 institutions of India to have been selected by U.G.C. to establish 'DeenDyalUpadhaya Kaushal Kendra'to develop skills of the students through B.Voc. (Agriculture), B.Voc. (Automobile), B.Voc. (Food Processing & Engineering) and B.Voc. (Software Development) programmes. The institution is also successfully running Honours in B.Sc. Physics & Chemistry, Honours School of Mathematics and B.A. Honours in English.The college is also providing alternate robust culture to the youth through its Web Channel.
The college in recent times has brought laurels in Academics, Sports and Cultural activities. The institution remained champion in Inter Zonal and Zonal level competitionsat university level from last 3 years. In Sports the college remained champion at Inter-college level in Handballfor the last 14 years and has won positions in Hockey, Table-Tennis, Archery, Volleyball etc.
NSS and NCC (Army, Navy, Air Force) boast of a good strength of student enrollment and they are encouraged to participate enthusiastically in all its activities. The alumni of the college are spreading the legacy of the institution throughout the world.
