- Over the summer I talked about a huge comic collection I found in the basement of a neighbor, and after getting some great books from him vowed to help him sell the rest. Well today is the day!

It’s a pleasure watching your channel. You don’t talk about the values or the spec potential of comics or try to sell your comics to us like a lot of other CZcamsrs. You do it for the love of comics and it really comes through. Keep up the great work.

Met Dave Stevens at a show in 1987...still haveva Batman and Joker print he did and signed. Nice guy and made great art covers. Going to have to look at stock and see what I have of him.
This was such an amazing experience, so glad to have come and support! Andy is such a nice and amazing guy, it was awesome meeting talking with both of you guys! I’m glad everything sold and Andy got some extra space in his basement. Also glad that you got some awesome books as well! Very jealous of that Aquaman book knowing that I could’ve grabbed it and I almost did! Great pickups, awesome video, amazing people! I too am happy to be a part of this wonderful community.

That was the coolest and most honest way to sell a collection. Splitting a table and letting him sell his own books was ingenious. You didn't play middle man and buy the collection for peanuts just to flip it. That was pretty friggen cool and you're a stand up guy.

Very impressive Andy was able to sell a large percentage of his collection. That normally doesn’t happen in one sale. Nice haul btw!

Agreed about the Aquaman book, I added it to my wishlist as soon as I saw it less than a year ago, just waiting for an affordable copy to purchase.

What a great episode Mike! You're truly a credit to the community and I'm glad you've been able to make so many great connections within the hobby. I think the memorable experience you created for both Andy and yourself will be the best thing you picked up that day (although that 1st Polaris is pretty decent too).

Great ending to this ongoing story! It is awesome to see him so happy about getting rid of his collection - it is such a foreign thought to me that I would ever be so happy to get rid of any of my collections. Also, I love seeing how your collection on the wall behind you has morphed over the last year or so - it really shows that putting in the work pays off!

Another great video. I’m not sure if you know this but your channel has transitioned from collecting comics in “strange and unusual places” to collecting comics and relationship building: friends, family, neighbors, other CZcams rs, fans, LCS owners and staff, etc and more. Which I think is wonderful because this is a hobby that is best enjoyed with others

I was huge into 2099, too. That was the only period of my life when I had a pull box, and most of it was 2099!

Selling locally at our antique mall booth and at conventions is my favorite part of selling, I do sell some things on eBay but actually talking to people and knowing that pieces are going into their personal collections makes it immensely more rewarding. Conventions are definitely my favorite but the wife does not enjoy me being gone for multiple weekends a month so I typically only get to do one a month.
What a fun experience. Lots of time, work, and effort paid off for both of you. So glad you both had a great experience. And, you picked up some great books in the process. It doesn't get much better than that!!

That first Ka-Zarr graded X-men book might’ve been a good investment, I feel like it’s already uncommon/rare but if they do something with that character In the MCU it’ll shoot way up

I started collecting comics again 4 months ago and really enjoy it for exactly the same things you say. I already have a huge toy memorabilia collection which is on display in my whole house every single room. I use to draw 30 years ago and because of my daughter finishing her degree in English literature and creative writing she got me into graphic novels again etc. I’m starting drawing again and re-kindling my graphic design background so keep an out for hopefully a new independent series next year me and my daughter from over the pond in the UK cheers 🍻

The Cerberus eventually did sell at the end of the show to another dealer!

Great video. Good job on moving the collection. When I used to set up the majority of sales were to other dealers and usually done during setup. That Fu Manchu on your back wall sure looked sweet. I bet it went fast

Great video. I agree with you about Aquaman 42. I collect marvel but i have a really nice issue of Aquaman 42 because i love Nick Cardy and think this is prob top 3 silver age covers!
Recently started ŵatching your videos and very much enjoy them. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Ive been collecting off and on most of my life when money allows. My lcs recently put up an X-men #50 for sale, that you mentioned, in vg to f- condition. It is a nice looking green cover. Might have to grab it! Great deal are nice but go with your conscience.
Enjoy your videos, but man it’s kinda bittersweet when I hear of a collector selling his books and getting out of the hobby, especially after 50 years of collecting. I always wondered what made him change his mind and what would I do if and when I decide to do the same thing. Plus, especially after staying as long as he did, would he regret doing so? I guess I get too attached to things, but I never tried to get into any type of collecting in order to make a profit. Anyway, good for him in his decision and I wish him the best.

Very cool video! I'm sure you kept it out of the video in respect to Andy, but I am so curious how he ended up doing with the sales. Whatever it was, I am sure he was thrilled considering how long these were sitting in his basement. Nice pickups too!
Love the Spawn #1 foreign printings; non-US versions of US comics is an area of collecting that's just starting to make a name for itself.
Uncanny Spider-Man? Nightcrawler as the new Spidey? No wonder I don't bother with 99% of current titles.
That Bernie Wrightson miniseries is truly excellent. It's 5 issues, #1-4 released by Pacific Comics and #5 by Eclipse after Pacific went under. The stories are reprints, mostly from Warren's Eerie and Creepy but in colour for the first time, and Steve Oliff's colouring is beautiful. Well worth tracking down.
Steranko's cover for X-Men #49 is a fine team-in-action image but the face, and especially the eyes, at the base of the art have always freaked me out.
Nick Cardy's covers around this time are quite stunning, real stop-and-look-twice pieces. "The Art Of Nick Cardy" by John Coates is a great showcase and retrospective of his work and includes a lot of his DC covers.
Issue #38 of the New 52 Aquaman run has a great homage variant cover by Steve Rude imitating the Nick Cardy original to Aquaman #42, with The Flash added as 75th Anniversary thing. I actually came across that version first and thought it was really cool before realizing it was an homage. I usually skip over Aquaman when digging, but even the homage of that cover caught my eye. Also, did Andy sell that Giant-Size Chillers: Dracula #1 on his wall books? If not, I would definitelybe interested. I have been looking for that one at a decent price. Awesome video as always. I wish I could go to some of these shows and hang out.

Sad to see all the books are sold. The saga of "the books in the basement." was way too short. It was like most Marvel series these days, 3 books in, then... "what happened, what do you mean its over?" But I guess I'm happy for...No that would be a lie, this sux... ;-)
You and I have alot of similarities I love X-men I love Claremont I love Dark DC characters and like Black Mantra only difference is my collection is overwhelming lol
