@@Native722 People could have just told them that if they hold this event during the extreme summer, they will not do it. They could have opted for an indoor walking track or anything else and collected money that way. There are always stupid people who don't research what they need to do before they go. Out of 100 people one died, so the rest of them probably paid attention. I would have just said "don't count me in".

Complete lack of judgement by whoever organized the event. Heat wave notifications and warnings are on the flipping news, they don’t “just happen” but obviously people have to make their own judgment about whether to go or not. Sad outcome for this woman and her family and friends. 😢

They were early. It does not take that long at 8am to get up the top and come back. Someone killed her! Especially the organizer decided not to speak up. Isn’t that playing the Fifth? I love near by and as a non-climber I had hiked that mountain. It is not a long hike.

@@MT-zy8el Hum, are you involved directly in this case to make such a statement? Do you know this person and her medical history? How about some proof if you are making the claim someone killed her. Why isn’t it possible she had an unknown underlying health condition aggravated by the heat. The fact a bunch of people did not die in those conditions is kinda irrelevant to this person and her family. My uncle and his girlfriend did a hike in Arizona in 120 degree heat with no problem. While I think that is beyond crazy everyone has a unique tolerance and some are much more susceptible to heat stroke. I can't judge Le or anyone else that took part. This is an absolute tragedy. In all tragedies so many people blame the victim. We all question and wonder why this and that didn't happen. We forget that no one asked for this. For me, I could see how this could easily happen to me. We never know how much we need to pay attention to diet, water intake, etc. days before hand. We hike in what we have. We have to take care of bodily functions off trail. No one I know takes their temperature, blood pressure, etc. before a hike or considers normal ailments such as being on our period, etc. In San Diego so many people hike regularly under any condition, even if we don't feel 100%. We push ourselves beyond ourselves, for our family, for friends, for the greater good. We don't know when to sit something out. Then when it becomes life or death, we push even more to try to save ourselves. We engage in low risk activities like this and think no way anything bad can happen especially in this case. Established hikes, sooo many people, cell phones working, calling early for help and not far from the trail, etc. This an absolute tragedy. I am so sorry for everyone affected, loved ones, organizers, and strangers. I've learned from Le that especially with many people, I should have a buddy that stays with me no matter what. I'll be less lax about my safety calls going in and out of hikes and actually make them. I've learned other lessons that I don't need to go into. But even with the best gear and prep, something can go wrong in split second that was unavoidable. What I do want to say to the family, organizers, friends, etc. I am so sorry for your loss. Tragedies happen but sudden unexpected deaths are always difficult. This was an accident and horribly painful for even me, a stranger to learn about. I cannot imagine your grief. As you grieve and as blame would naturally creep into the process, consider Le would want you to blame yourselves? Forgive yourselves for what happened. It wasn't your fault. It was not her fault. Feel all the feels, but do so in a healthy way. You all were doing a selfless thing doing the hike and supporting the charity. Band together in the grief. Continue to support the charity, the cause, Le's belief, etc. focus on that, not your ego that wants to take the blame. Charity do not disband. No matter what, nothing will bring her back, but you can bring her to the forefront. She died supporting a good cause one she strongly believed in. Please don't let it be in vain.

Heat stroke can affect people seemingly suddenly. If a hiker isn’t experienced and ignorant of heat stroke, they often make the mistake of trying to quietly power through, then suddenly it’s too much and then seemingly suddenly succumb to it all. She also may have had any number of underlying health conditions that exacerbated the symptoms. 😢

This is why i prefer hiking only in groups up to 4, with similar fitness. I know it sounds selfish but it's no fun having to move at the pace of the slowest hiker. The honest mindset is "come on, keep up". The simple remedy is to hike in very small groups with people of the same ability. ❤

Water every 30 min and with a little salt every 60 min, open loose clothes, head up, try to keep an ice pack in your bag and hold it in your hands when you get hot because heat dissipates through hands the fastest. good communication Incase someone gets split up, always go with a buddy and always tell others where you two are going and always bring safety gear (cooler of ice cold water and a blanket

*Was this even **_legal or authorized_** Were they shuttled* in? Was park aware of OR do they even need _to be notified of massive, fund-raising hikes_ Seems to me like *crowd control/protection would be mandatory* by AT THE _VERY_ LEAST by park officials and at the _TOP_ OF THE LIST of *THE EVENT COORDINATOR* Imagine all the charges? From sponsor/coordinator to national park and its employees. Did they alert authorities if they were aware of this large scale event? For the sake of parking as well as a quick, coordinated and safe fire exit? Negligent is an understatement.
LE hired to keep crowd under control or lookout for opportunists _if not for intimidation and prevention_ Also to aid in stopping random hikers from joining.. Was it a sponsored event? On the other hand, opportunistic outdoor peeps may have already been squatting-in-wait... With the intention of NEVER being found... But dang camp ashes.. evidence of my shizzle. Imagine wanting go off grid.. In a national park? Wild. I just went off grid😵‍💫 but imagine that. Anyway...
Police interrogation of all hikers and parties involved, in the vicinity of, should layout a clear picture of this woman's last seconds alive. Not even a minute from witnesses, ears and eyes on the trail.
