Yorke and Greenwood have always had this power to mesmerize me and obsess me, even if at first I'm not understanding their latest idea. I keep thinking I've heard it all and they can't do it again. I'm old, they're old, there's no more magic on stage, no more rabbits to pull out of the hat. And they go and do something like this, and show me how wrong I am. Yes we are all weary and every warning became a nightmare, and yet they weave the magic wand just once more and the rabbits just come out FLOODING from the hat.
@@mrleahcim95 in my opinion it is Free in the knowledge has the weakest vocal performance so far, and the chord progression is honestly basic I love pana vision, but it does not convey the otherworldly sensation Bending Hectic does, imo
Exactly! I’m 71 and when I bought Electric Ladyland/ The White Album I was completely blown away. Interestingly one other album that had the same effect was The Notorious Byrd Brothers. Mind blown.
It's much better live. The mix in the last 2 minutes of the studio version is purposely muddy but if anything perhaps contains less power and less of Jonny' layered guitar work than the live version. The string sounds are also present on the live version with Jonny using a pedal board synth.
I think a lot of people don't truly appreciate what Jonny is doing here. Watch a few live versions and you'll appreciate it. He's bending the strings with his fingers as he plays to create these microtones, and the flawless ascending and descending... beautiful!
I was thinking to myself: which Radiohead album this song would fit the most? In Rainbows? Moon-Shaped Pool? Nah… And then the author of the video nailed it - this is an Amnesiac song! Wow.
Ending is amazing. Vocals are phenomenal. Almost cocky in a way. Reminds me a bit of Muse for some reason. Anyway. Not one of their best songs. Now I'm waiting for the REAL single: Just Eyes and Mouth

That's a beautiful and poetic comment. Thank you man
This is the ultimate the smile song, I really doubt they can do something better than this
I think they could honestly. I’ve heard some stuff that I prefer but I’m really no expert on The Smile
I don't know if this is better than free in the knowledge or pana vision honestly

Best thing Thom’s done. Period.
@@bonnibagel3756 Hold on, that´s where How to disspear completely comes in
An absolute incredible song. I've been listening to the live version for months and now we've been treated to this.
Listening to the Smile in 2023 feels like what listening to the Beatles in 1967 might have felt like. Or Hendrix.

...and without drugs
Your face when the heavy part came in, bro same!
Amazing song, seeing them live tomorrow, super excited!
An immense piece of music
11:19😂
genuine reaction ahah I'm so happy I captured that
It’s a masterpiece IMO!
Had a feeling you would react to this! Song is great! Hoping for more intensity like this on the new album.
Thanks for sticking around! Yeah that’d be fun
Oh, it's as good live.
He does layer the guitars live a lot btw so the ending is very similar minus the strings
How does he do it loops?
@@TanguyBlanchardI think he plays with his delay pedals in some way
Could be my favourite track Thom and Jonny have ever written

Oh really? Crazy. I need to see them again
💯 I like the Smile better live, for Radiohead I love them live but typically like the studio version better
I adore the studio version
This goes from idyllic to insane, and I love it!!!!

I have EXACTLY the same reaction. Head can’t stop weaving or bobbling around.

Oh wow did I say that? Time flies. Thanks 4 the comment.
My guitar/bass instructor said that Jonny’s essentially bending the notes to hit microtones, which makes sense with him studying in India for a while.
Them shits are nice. It feels like your ears are being caressed every time those notes leaves the 12 tone scale
When I’ve seen them live I see Thom and Jonny play a different type of guitar or bass every song
Original version of paranoid android was like 10 or 11 mins
What is that song you mentioned in 7:15? I couldn’t quite figure it out. Thanks!
Spinning Plates and I Will by Radiohead :)
Love the song, at the 10 minute mark I believe you're wrong, the song is in 4/4.
did you check the live 2022 version? Jonny simplified the solo for the album, I definitely prefer 2022's, way more grungy
That is a big ass water bottle man
come fight me

not one of their best? uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
@@costcoexecutivemember Well. It is beautiful and emotional. Tell you what. Maybe I'll change my mind when I hear it in the context of the next album
Personally for me my favorite smile song is either The Smoke, Open The Floodgates or Waving A White Flag, but this definitely got on my top 5
Man you stopped the song just in the moment , in the song, where your mind blows at the first listening with that violin.feel sorry for you
Yeah maybe I should fake these reactions. I just knew that some other section was coming up so I had to pause
